Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison Set

Hey all,

I am sure there are a bunch of us looking forward to this release set.... Question though...

I heard a while ago that there may be some error with the new release and that we should wait to check the new release before we get rid of our old releases..... is this something specific with this release, or was this a generic warning?

Also, would there be ANY reason to hold on to my old releases? (i have flash backs of Dawn of the dead, where my original releases were unique and different from the new releases, blah, blah...)

Thanks,

Matt!

Well, I still have my Billy Madison DVD and widescreen Happy Gilmore LD just in case. What is this error? I couldn't find anything on it.

Nickell,

That's cool that you got it ahead of time -- how'd you manage that? So, there's no reason I shouldn't upgrade -- right? How is the new set - really nice?

Thanks,

M

The Wal-Mart near me broke the steet date on this. It has two amaray cases inside a doubly-wide slip cover. The individual cases had UPCs, so I think the two releases will be available separately in the future.

The error(s) you are asking about I've never actually heard details of. But I am guessing that since this is a Universal release, there is ALWAYS the possibility that they will screw up the release. It seems probable that a person or a few people, having known Universal's crappy track record, may have mentioned this somewhere leading to rumors that there was or would be something wrong with it when it is released.

Happy Gilmore can't be any worse than the current version. Billy Madison is a possibility for a screw up.

This 2pack is on sale this week at Target for $15.99. I can't pass this up, I will take my chance that Universal didn't mess this up.

I didn't notice any problems with the movies, but I'm not watching them frame by frame, so someone else might have noticed something. Just watching them will not show you any obvious issues.

If you're a film geek/OAR advocate, this is a neccessary upgrade. HG looks much better in widescreen. If you're just a fan of the flicks (J6P) you might not need to pick this up. But for the price Target is charging, I'd highly suggest picking it up. The extras aren't great, but the BM commentary is somewhat interesting and the kickball scene is in there too.

Francis,

I think you've got a typo in your review.

Compared to Billy Madison, this is a more complete film, and of the two, it's the more enjoyable in terms of plot. Billy has more "What the..." laughs, but Happy Madison is the better overall experience.
Do you mean Happy Gilmore is the better overall experience, or did I miss something?

I feared I would do that.

I have to go to writer confession now.

Thanks for the notice.

Just sold my old ones today for $15. Headed to Target tomorrow. Considering it'll only cost me .99 + tax to upgrade, I can't pass that up.

Star Wars Guy,

Hello.... Did you trade your old ones in somewhere for cash? Or did you sell them to a friend? Just curious --

Thanks,

Matt

I just picked this up at Wal-Mart, price matched Target for $15.99, and each movie does not have it's own UPC. I guess some will get sold individual and some only sold in the set. Weird.

Would you mind sharing the UPC #s from each so I can add them separately to DVD Profiler? Thanks.

Ok, just got ticked when I went to Target to get this. I only see the Full Screen pack on display (the price flag also said Full Screen.) I asked the clerk who was stocking the DVDs and she rather rudely said that's the only version that was released. I calmly informed her that she was mistaken and asked if the could be anywhere else in the DVD section. She said that was the only version they were carrying.

Has anyone else run into this at Target trying to find the WS set?

FYI, none of the Target stores in New Jersey have the Happy Gilmore/Billy Madison Collection on release day (11-30). Seems that they received an e-mail stating that they would not be in on that day. Funny how they also have the lowest B/M price on this set.

Looks like I'll have to PM at CC (as long as they don't call Target to verify).

In the Portland, OR area they are also only carrying full screen. Had to price match at BestBuy for the widescreen.

Is there a coupon from target that I should bring in to Best Buy to price match or do I just go in and tell them at Best Buy that Target has the set for $15.99?
