I was just being an ass. I meant to say, for most people, by choosing just the Superbit, you only receive a nominal quality gain but lose all of the great features of the 2-disc version. If you're a fan of DTS and want all of the features, by all means, buy both.

I went with superbit on The first spidy, so no doubt will go with the superbit for spidy 2. Cant wait.

Superbit for me...

As Charlie de Lauzirika (the DVD producer of Spider-man 2, Alien Quad, etc) suggests, I'm going with the SE for now and waiting for the HD. The only superbits I have are those that are the only release, where the other releases have no extras, or superbit deluxes.
If/when the giftset comes down in price I might get it and sell off the SE.

Someone reported that the DTS blows the DD eventhough the DD is already at reference level. The Superbit video transfer is slightly better as well.

Superbit for me. My flatmate is just getting the reglar, if I want extras I'll 'borrow' his disc.

I'm going with the Superbit. As someone mentioned earlier, if there are as many used copies of 2 as there are of the original, you should be able to pick up a used SE of 2 pretty soon. Almost every pawn shop in Columbia has a used copy of the original for about $4.

Plus, if we all buy the superbits and it outsells the SE (which it probably wont), then maybe they will just start making Superbit transfers and DTS sound the norm AND include a second disk of extras.

Yeah I can see how that makes sense - seeing as how I have a capability of viewing 1080 lines, and still only get 480 from DVD but at least will get maximum possible bitrate.....still would just love to see what one looks like on a big set, so im passing on my usual love for features and commentaries this one time You will never lose 5.1 - at worst, it will remain as a minimum specification and do away with 2.0 (5.1 downsampling to stereo speakers) - still too many folks with non-DTS receivers out there (myself included) plus there are also enough folks who enjoy commentary to keep that around for a while also and with the advent of better technology and media able to hold more, you'll only see more commentary.

720 HdDVD will require at least 50% more disc bandwidth than current DVD and many 480's already push the current limit of disc space - so until blu-ray and comparable media and backwards compatible players get sorted out, i dont see a foreseeable shift in technology-trend for quite a few years - and it will be niche and privileged in the beginning just as DVD was, and wont become mainstream for 2-4 years after that.

And some people just don't give a rats arse. My girlfriend bought my very capable, almost new-like Yamaha HTR-595a, and a new 5 disk DVD player. But her speakers are a joke. I mean really really bad. So bad that I didn't even bother hooking up my coaxial cable to the system, and she's just in heaven with the sound as it is, in its nearly flat sounding prologic playback.

The speaker cables run threw the attic, and the "handy man" that ran the cables somehow, in his ignorance, spliced the right front with the right rear, and the left front with the left rear. Just terrible terrible install. I'd change it, but if anything got damaged I'd lose the few good points I've managed to accuire and hold on to. :)

I think most people still watch through the speakers on their TV. Not me, of course... I have 6.1 DTS :D

Got the Superbit. Bought one more Superbit (Bram Stoker's Dracula) and got another for free (The Missing).

I'm amazed at the poor selection of Superbits. Some of the movies I have, and some I wouldn't want for free.

2 disc SE.. I have some Blockbuster credit left, so I bought a $50 Giftcard, with the $5 Free card. Buy it for $19.99, 14.99 net.

Anyone been out to Circuit City yet to see if they are selling the Superbit version? They are not listing it on the website....otherwise I may order from DDD.

I went and got one at 2:30pm and there were only like 2 or 3 left with no displays for them, not even set up in the normal 'action' section where there were many WS and FS of the 2 discer.

Anyone know why the sparseness?

I'm a sucker for trailers so that and the $2 difference at BB kept me from getting the Superbit. I know I'm not going to watch any of the extras since I never do but I alway like to watch the trailer before the movie.
