Even though all 15 were opened, I still picked up $280 on E-Bay.
good to hear...I probably won't sell them off right away...you never know what disney is going to do, and I'd hate to lose some of those shows if later seasons never were to show up...

I try not to open stuff until I am ready to watch it, this has saved me a few times when a better edition is found to be on the way.

I bought the first 10 Time Life volumes about 2 or 3 years ago and then ordered the last 5 volumes last year. I was very happy with them and thought we would never see this series released as season sets. I am both happy about this and disappointed that it didn't happen sooner, before I bought the Time Life set.

As soon as features and any editing problems are announced I will have to make my decision to double-dip or not. This is gonna be a tough one though, I have about $150 invested in this already, that's a huge double dip.

Some of this is great news with all the extras mentioned, the restoration of the show, and recent interviews for the sets. Awesome news. I just wish we could get some concrete info on how far along they are and a release date.

Anyone know about the debate about the intro? Is there something racy or too edgy for today's audience in the intro? Are they trying to PC-ify a show from 30+ years ago?

Any more recent news?

I'd be interested in this. Really enjoyed the Muppet Show (well Muppets in general) as a kid

I remember one skit set in the jungle when "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was playing, but it was so loud the lion of the jungle couldnt sleep. Classic

Anyone know whether some sort of "Classic/Early Years" DVD of Sesame Street will be released?

I do not know about a DVD, but Sesame is going to have it's own channel sometime in the next year or 2 and they will be showing classic episodes.

from tvshowsondvd.com:

Disney has announced plans to release the first season of The Muppet Show on August 9. You can order it now through Disney for $39.99 (plus $3.95 shipping and handling), though we expect it to be available elsewhere on the same date. Orders placed through the website ship out on August 4th, so the delivery date should be the release date.
Decent price. Looking forward to it.

Cool, anybody have an episode listing (guest stars)?

And classic Sesame Street episodes huh...I'd probably actually watch a few from when I was a kid.

Here is a better idea of what will be included in the Season 1 set. According to tvshowsondvd.com, Disney will officially announce the details on Monday.

Thanks, these are really going to be a treat. I've waited for these sets and it will be great to relive all the shows I saw as a kid (Vincent Price!).

And it's the same day as Dallas: season 3 - oh happy day.

I'll be so happy if all 24 episodes are there. Too many times now we've seen a company attempt to release a show on DVD and get held up for extraordinary sums of cash by people that did guest shots or music, and we either get an incomplete release or nothing at all.

If none of the stars (or their estates) are throwing roadblocks of greed in front of this release, it could quite possibly be the best TV on DVD release of the year.

from the bits

The big DVD news today is that Disney has officially announced the DVD release of The Muppet Show: Season One for 8/9. The long-awaited 4-disc set will include all 24 first season episodes, along with Jim Henson's original pitch reel for the show, a gag reel, the original pilot episode and a feature called Muppet Movies. You'll find possible cover art for the set below. Also on 8/9, the studio will release The Muppets' Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

They did have Muppets Tonight a few years ago, which was basically the same show. I can't remember too many of the guest stars, but I do remember episodes with Garth Brooks and Sandra Bullock. I don't think it even lasted a season.

From DVD Answers:

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has announced the first season of The Muppets contains all 24 episodes, completely restored and remastered. The four-disc set will be available to own from the 9th August, and should retail at around $39.99. Each of the episodes will be presented in 1.33:1 full frame, along with English 2.0 Mono tracks. Extras will include Jim Henson’s original “pitch reel” - the reel that propelled the Muppets’ blend of original songs, sketch comedy and guest stars into a primetime hit for all ages, the original pilot, some 'Muppet Morsels', and a season one promotional gag reel. The press release also promises packaging with a 'fun, furry touch'! Stay tuned for the official package artwork.
