Finally! The Muppet Show - Season Sets (August 9)
Did a search and couldn't find it posted but TVShowsOnDVD is reporting season sets for The Muppet Show are in the works.
I'm glad I held out on that Timelife deal a few months back. This is great news.
Muppet Show, The - Season Sets Reportedly On-The-Way!!

The past weekend the Brooklyn Academy of Music ("BAM") held a gathering called "Muppets, Music and Magic: Jim Henson's Legacy". It was a 2-day affair featuring workshops about the Muppets and Henson's related work, screenings of various films such as The Muppet Movie and Labyrinth, and lots of guest speakers.
As you may recall, Disney bought the rights to most Muppet items in early 2004, as we mentioned in passing here. Now reader "JVG" sent the first report of several from this past weekend that told us that during question-and-answer sessions at BAM, it was revealed that (in "JVG's" words) Disney plans to release a full first season Muppet Show set in 2005 or 2006.
Similar reports also seem to be hitting at MuppetCentral.com, where extras seem to be in-the-works as well:
...Craig Shemin announced that they WILL be releasing season by season box sets of TMS on DVD. No details right now cause they just found out today but they are forthcoming. They said that Crag [sic] and Jerry Juhl were both being interviewed for them so it sounds like we might have a few extra goodies tossed in too.
That's very exciting news, and we'll be looking forward to it here. Thanks to everyone who wrote in about this, there were many of you. Stay tuned for updates as this progresses.

Well it was posted in a timelife thread in the bargains forum, but news like this deserves its own thread.

I hope they don't use the same bastardised masters that they used for their previous releases, where on the end credits, the very end (the screen proclaiming it's an ITC production) where the sax player honks out the last note and does his facial reaction, they replaced that screen with a "new" modern one (Henson entertainment or something).
I HATE how studios keep replacing vintage endcaps on shows. If they want their "modern" idents presented, then they should present them AFTER the original ones (like anyone will get confused. We all know we're watching vintage TV shows on DVD. We're not stupid enough to think we're watching them on TV or are left wondering "Who is ITC?").

Great news!!!!!!! I was very, very close to buying the 15 dvd set of the Muppet Show. I only bought three of them on impulse buys. It'll be great to have them. I hope they include the Brian Henson intros tot he episodes.
Good news indeed, now about those widescreen versions of "a muppet Christmas carol" and "muppet treasure island"??????

I bought the Time-Life sets a few months ago and they've been run in marathon sessions by the many folks (young and young at heart) in my house, so they've been a worthy purchase.
I'll definitely look into getting these season sets when they materialize.

We've had word since last Fall that The Muppet Show was coming to DVD in season sets sometime in 2005. Now the folks at MuppetCentral.com have posted a huge update on the situation. Click that link to read the entire story, but here are some fabulous highlights:
Fact or Fiction: The Muppet Show DVD season sets
Season 1 is slated for release by the end of 2005

...After talking with several insiders about the DVD sets, some information has been collected and gathered. Please remember that until there is an official announcement from Disney, anything listed can potentially change...(but) The Muppet Show - The Complete First Season should be in stores by the end of the year.
The video is reported to be transferred from their original British (PAL) tapes,...will be unedited and will contain the UK skits. This goes to show how Disney is trying to create a collection of the episodes like never seen before.
Although at this point, the inclusion of the original season 1 opening sequence is still undetermined. Apparently there are strong arguments for including the original openings, and also powerful reasons for not including them. The answer of which it will be has flip-flopped back and forth throughout the set's production and the final outcome is not available at this time.
...Many fans wondered if these season sets would include any of the show's pilots or specials. The answer to this is yes. Disney does plan on including several of the historic Muppet Show pilots and specials.
...Many Henson employees, performers, and fans have been interviewed on film for bonus material. These include: Craig Shemin, Jerry Juhl, Jerry Nelson, Dave Goelz, Carroll Spinney, and Michael Frith - just to name a few. It is not definite how these interviews will be used, but it probably means there will be a great collection of information on these sets.
One feature that has been confirmed is trivia and other factual information. This will expose all kinds of things about the show, the characters, the skits and songs, and much more (even the die-hard Muppet Show fans will learn something). The information, facts, and trivia for the sets was provided and created with the help of Michael Dixon (webmaster of Kermitage.com), Craig Shemin, Dave Goelz and Jerry Juhl. The information was gathered and provided by people who really know the Muppet Show inside and out, and really shows the dedication of Disney to produce quality sets.
Disney has stated that they want to make the best possible sets and it seems like they are...An official announcement of the season 1 DVD features, release date, retail price, and more should be released by The Muppet Holding Company and Disney Home Entertainment later this year...
Great news in there! Our thanks to the folks at Muppet Central for the humongous update, and to a number of readers, starting with Paul Henderson, for the heads-up about the news. Stay tuned, and we'll bring you updates about any developments as they occur.

This is certainly in the "don't mind the double-dip" category!
