Just announced from Universal Home Video is the long-awaited Orgazmo: Special Edition. Unfortunately however, it seems like the project has been scaled back from its once-planned double-disc set.The single-disc release will be available on February 15th with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo sound. Retail will be $19.98.

All those extras were for the '2-disc' edition that has already been freakin compiled and everything!! And yet now Universal has decided to just release it as a 1disc stripped down edition for no apparent reason.
I'm not sure why this surprises me in the least though...Universal has consistantly screwed up just about every single major release in recent history, why should they stop now.

The Unrated Orgazmo is probably the version they'll sell in Wal-Marts, it could be that there's no difference other than the name.
It makes me wonder if Feb. 15 will be the Team America release date, it would make sense to cross promote.

I know Trey Parker spent many months, and most of his 'Baseketball' money, re-editing it and re-submitting it hoping to get it knocked down from NC-17 to R, to no avail, so, in theory, there should be an original cut which was technically rated NC-17 also but could be said to be "unrated" under current marketing terms.
It seems weird that they'd release two versions instead of one two-disc version, but I'll buy whatever they put out; I doubt this'll be a double-dip candidate.

That Guam Guy..I highly doubt that is the case with this release.
The NC-17 version is the original uncut release. The 'unrated' version will be a cut down version that for one reason or another, still could not get an 'R' rating.
Man Bits Dog is another similar example. Still to explicit for an 'R' rating,so an alternate slightly edited 'unrated' version was made cuting out two scenes entirely.
Now I know Orgazmo is a fairly tame as hell film and not even close to NC-17 material. Yet the MPAA has a grudge with them after the South Park issue. So they possibly suspect the MPAA will not give the film an R rating at all. No matter how much they cut out. So they are releasing a altered edited unrated version to get it into some stores that refuse to carry NC-17 films.
It is stupid I know, but that is how clueless corporate politics are. NC-17 'bad'...'unrated' still explicit version of film with some edits is 'good'.
