You are absolutely right, the promo does end that date, but I am betting they will have a promotion like that at least a couple times a year, like when they have their holiday sales on previously viewed titles. BBV is known for having their promotions come around again for a time or more.

I am getting the SE version coming out, Superbit, and if they ever come out with a 2.5 I will get that one.

Does anybody else think that this movie needs to be cut by about 20 minutes and not get some additional stuff put in?

I'll buy the SE when it's released and that's it. I've had my fill of watching studios re-releasing the same movie within a mere few months. By buying additional versions/releases I would be sending the signal that I have no problem with their shell game antics.

When a movie is re-released now that came out on DVD say 5 years ago I can see it being justifiable. the medium has come a long way in the last few years... more time and care put into cleaning up the transfer, anamorpic, proper OAR, taking away the flipper aspect, things made right that the attention wasn't given to in general. This is something altogether different. When someone is trying to entice me to buy essentially the same movie two and even three times in 12 months then they can write me off. I have very little doubt that the first SE is going to look very, very good as this is a highly anticipated release.
I don't need 3 copies of Spiderman 2, one will do me.

If the first release of part 2 is the only one that will be SuperBit and not the 2.5 version, then I think I will be getting the SuperBit version. I hope though that the 2.5 version will have the same extras as the Special Edition of Spider-Man 2, if not,...then I might actually consider getting the initial release.

Depends on the extras on both. If they both have the same extras, then clearly the longer release is the way to go. But if release 1 has A, B and C while Release 2 has E, F and G - well, I'll have to wait and see what the specs on each are.

I was planning on getting the giftset for my nephews. Will 2.5 be bundled as a giftset too or just be released alone?

Getting the Superbit and with Blu-ray rearing it's head in the next year or two, that will tide me over until the next gen.

For me, it depends completely on the extras and image quality on the first release.

But! If Raimi were to add anything to that cooler-than-cool Evil Dead 2 homage surgery sequence for the 2.5 release, I'd gladly wait for that one.

This is by far the best release I have seen in awhile. You get the regular version, the Gift Set, and the Superbit all in one day. The 2.5 has yet to even be 100% decided that he is going to do it.

I think that spiderman 2 is going to set superbit as a more popular pick for costumers that are still undecided to buy superbit.

I'm also getting superbit.
