replace she by he and you've got my situation, or have i got yours?

I think I am around 160, depending on how you want to count box sets like the Star Wars, James Bond and Indiana Jones.

whatever.

I find the larger the collection the harder it is to decide what to watch.
never had that problem.

It’s also a waste of money and materials to just have stuff sitting on the shelves not to be watched again.
not to me. it's a library...and as a library...it serves it's purpose. theres no collecting rule that states you have to force feed yerself films every minute of every day. whats the rush? if I choose to wait a year or 3 to watch something in my library...so what?

Yep. It all depends on what you're going for... gutwrencher, I must have found 50 films on your list that grabbed me. Thanks!

I'll agree with gutwrencher on that one. It is a LIBRARY. There are a ton more movies that I would love to have... and sure it will take more forever to get around to watching them, but atleast I have it when I want to watch it.
It is the same reason that people collect books or save photos. Atleast you have them when you want to read/view them.
Now... I don't collect DVD's just to say I have a lot of them. I get what I want to see... or stuff that I want to see again in the future.
I am not going to NOT get something that I want just because it takes up too much room or takes me a while to get around to watching it. Stuff goes out of production all the time and then your stuck if you wanted it and will have to pay a much higher price to get it.
Look how long it took Star Wars to come out. I am not going to pick it up just because I have too many DVD's or not enough space for it on my shelf.

I love all my DVD's...mostly all and I don't really care how many I got. I don't try to compare to other fine collections or try to best my neighbor. I get the ones I like/love and that's it. I collect for me and though I know how many because of DVD Profiler (320+) I don't really care if it goes higher or lower. It seems some just get because they have to get and have to get every Tuesday and get in quantity to see their collections grow and grow and really lack in substance. I don't get that compulsion to get all (even when all means some crap) I'll just get what I want and revel in those for quality and not simply quantity! That is all...

So much denial, delusion and materialism here...

I agree with you, but don't expect many others to--this is, after all, a website for DVD collectors.

I find it surprising that people comment so much that a person has more than 300 DVDs. As has been mentioned, this is a DVD forum for collectors. I do not think that having a large collection means that one is less refined in picking DVDs to own. Each person just has their own definition of a collection and there's no point in criticizing if the number of DVDs in one's collection. If you're happy with what you own, that's all that matters right?

I own 123 DVDs but majority are TV Shows. I would have about 250 if I buy more movies than TV Shows, but my collection is always growing...

I am surprised.

People coming to a DVD fan website and then calling people with DVD collections materialistic?

It's actually kind of funny.

It's a DVD site. Of course people are going to have collections. Some Large, some small, some medium, some with 80% porn, some with no movies after 1960, etc., etc. Wake up and smell the coffee folks.

So silly.

As for me, I have a small collection. I really no longer have an interest in bulding a library. Only buying what I know I will watch and enjoy multiple times and go back to every now and then.

I had about 850 prior to the Blockbuster $8 trade-in deal. My collection is now at 755.

If I had more time to weed through my collection, I probably could get rid of another 50-100 titles.

Iīm nearing 500 now. Iīll be the first to admit that they arenīt all masterpieces of cinema, but I happen to enjoy and love each and every one of them, and just because I wonīt get around to watching all of them in the next couple of weeks, months, or even years, doesnīt mean that I donīt love having them around. Maybe Iīm crazy and maybe I suffer from collector mentality, but I for one think itīs much healthier than spending the money on cigarettes and booze (both of which I abstain from).

Not even a call to see if I was interested in some. Very dissappointed.

I'm clocking in at just over 550.

One thing more on having so many. I feel like I'm buying them for my family and friends too. They call me Bailey Blockbusters. I think I have about 20 out on loan right now!!

Like I was saying earlier. It is a collection... a library... almost a lifestyle. I have been into films ever since I was a little kid of 7 or 8 and I am 37 now. I think I have bought 3 or 4 DVD's just on reviews only that I did not personally see first (Pitch Black was one of them). Every other DVD I have seen previously in the theater or on TV and would want it in my collection.
Some people collect books, some people collect baseball cards, some people collect video games. Each to their own.
I will get around to watching each and every DVD that I own and I always see or learn something new about each one.
This is why I have spent so much money on my home theater system. To have a small movie theater like atmosphere in my home... for me, my wife, and friends to enjoy and bring happiness to.
You think these collections are Huge and Outrageous... I have seen people spend a half a million dollars on their home theaters and DVD collections.

Anyone regret purchasing so many movies and getting caught up the the dvd collecting phase? I sure do. If I could get back what I paid for them I'd get rid of a 2/3 of em.

I love movies!!

Having a large collection gives me the ability to find something I'm in the mood for at all times.

I also lend out movies to responsible friends so that they may enjoy my collection as well.
