I can't speak for anyone else, but I do. I got over 100 pro-wrestling DVDs alone!

Do you track your collection online anywhere? If so, please provide a link. I really want to see your collection.

Started watching DVDs in early 1998 and used to only rent, but THEN all those great sales at Reel.com, DVD Express, etc. started rolling in. Plus, Ken Crane's/DVD Planet was/is just a short drive down the freeway. I couldn't resist. I'm over 1600, but I'm looking to start weeding out a "few" titles.

Passed 1000 a while back and now I try not to count. I also count as another "wife not as happy with the exploding volume of dvds". Guess I should be happy she ever let me get from 500 to 1000.
The problem is, as far as I can tell, it appears they will keep putting out new titles every Tuesday. What to do?

I have about 6,000 (Yes, it is growing) and around 25,000 VHS
The pictures were posted a while ago and I have picked up quite a few since then. (For example my CC collection was under 50. Now it is around 75 with 2 more coming). Most of the VHS has never been released on DVD and much of it never will be

I have 351 titles and going strong. I buy a few titles almost every week. my wife used to be upset about it with her " more movies!" tone of voice, but she has kind of accepted the fact that I will be getting them as long as I have the money to purchase them, plus she'll even sit down and watch them with me, the ones that she likes that is.

I hope you don't think I'm picking on you, but honestly, unless you are doubling as a video rental store, you will never watch that much content over the course of your lifetime... do the math.

There are DVDs and most certainly VHS tapes that are on your shelf right now that you will never get to watch before you die.

Are you collecting for the next generation? If not, then why have so many? Wouldn't trimming it down to even, say... 2000 make more sense?

I'm just curious as to your reasons for having so many discs and tapes that you will never get to watch for the rest of your life.

I'd even bet that you haven't watched at least 25% of them at all. Depending on your age, you've either spent most of your life watching them or will spend most of the rest of your life watching them.

Some people seem to collect strictly for collectings sake.

I've got waaaay over 300. I know it's the opinion of many here that if you have a certain number then you're not collecting for quality, but I think that's a matter of personal taste. I'm sure I can find 500 DVDs in my collection that I think are great little movies. DVDs aren't relegated to just movies, either...seems like most every musical act has a disc out nowadays and with the growing popularity of TV on DVD that makes the numbers grow even larger.

I have 330 but if I counted all the movies I've sold on ebay and just traded in at BB it would easily be over 500. I got all the titles I wanted that Columbia House had and ever since then my collection has slowed way down. I also came to the realization that I had a lot of movies that I probably wouldn't watch again...those are now at my local BB.

Now I only buy movies that I love and Disney releases that I really like. In the old days I'd probably pick up Van Helsing since I thought it was okay, but now I can't justify buying it since I didn't love the movie....only Kate Beckinsale

I used to have 800+. I went through and weeded 150 , And still see room for more trimming. I am currently at about 696 DVD's.

First I have watched about 40%. I have an illness that tends to restrict me to my house and I developed the habit of watching a number of movies.

I have been doing some weeding and once some family illness problems are hoping over I will post it I didn't feel right in taking orders and not being able to get them out right away because of the other problems.

I tend to watch the VHS tapes at night because of the way I have my equipement set up. Some of these are being replaced as I get the DVD edition. Even with the limited time I still watch about 10 per week of the VHS alone

I have gradually stopped buying VHS and replacing them with DVD. I do occasionally buy a VHS if it is something I want to see and it is not out on dvd.

Yes there are some films I am sorry I bought and will probably get rid of them soon. It isn't that many

As for why - I like to watch movies and because of health and a job many people call the job from hell this helps me to relax.

No, I don't. Don't even know much about doing that. What do I have to do, just type in my UPC #s?

Yes, I think both DVD Profiler and Guzzlefish work off UPC codes.

BOOM! I think this hit it on the head... Some people collect spoons. They most likely will never eat off of them, they just display them. Same with Elvis plates...or adults with Barbie dolls. Etc.

Maybe some folks just wanna collect movies.

(Stuart Smalley) And that's... O kay (/Stuart Smalley)

Exactly! IMO they don't have to justify why they have them. Keep on collecting is what I say.

I'm nearing 1800 DVD's to go along with 600 laserdiscs. I have almost all my faves, and I've been slowing down over the past year or so.

Hello everyone, first time poster here Lurk a lot though...

I have 126 currently. Used to have well over 200, then I got divorced and got to pawn off all of the chick flicks and such to the ex wifey. Some good ones grew legs too though, so I've had to re-buy some. At the pace I'm going at, by this time next year I'll likely have over 200, easy.

Right now I'm looking to pick up titles from my past that are memorable to me - even if they're "bad" movies. My new ladyfriend likes the DVD collection - she likes movies a lot as well, and is working through my collection...

And I see it this way as well - I used to go to the cinema a lot, but with the price increases it's just about the same price to just get the dvd when it comes out instead, and then you get extras, collectable things, and the ability to re-watch it whenever you want. I think there's something to be said for having an 'archive' of movies to pick from. And sadly, my surround sound system seems better than my little-city movie theatre's, so that just adds to the reason to watch at home.

So, really, for me it all falls into either memorobilia or what I'd spend on entertainment anyhow.

Will I ever have over 300? Maybe. Over 1,000? Likely not..
