I'm closing in on 500 even though I've probably only bought about twenty or so this year (My tuition and my daughter's day care are more important than my obsession.)

OK, but here's a question for the old timers...
How many of your discs are non-anamorphic WS transfers from back in the early days?
I ask because I have passed up numerous titles because they don't have anamorphic transfers. I currently only have 3 titles that aren't anamorphic. Volcano, Marked for Death, and Patriot.

I have 841 in my DVDProfiler but I got rid of 25 or so to Blockbuster already. I'll probably get rid of another 25 or so before the end of the month.
I've only been collecting since June 2002 but I've accumulated 800+ in that time. That's almost one a day. I've actually slowed down a bit too. When I was working, I watched an average of 1 a week so that was 6 unwatched a week. I had over 500 unwatched DVDs. Since DVDs depreciate quickly, I've decided to cut down on my buying. This BBV trade in deal has been a Godsend.

BTW, that brings up an interesting question. When DVD counting began, as such, TV on DVD wasn't really a factor. So should we as a DVD community change the way we count TV sets? Since most TV discs contain anywhere from 3-5 episodes per disc, which incorporates about the same run time as a 3-hour movie (4x45 min = 180min), shouldn't we count each disc in a set as 1 DVD? Or in other words, for about every 3 hours of running time, give or take, we should count that as 1 DVD.
Take for instance the Stargate, Star Trek sets...4-episodes per disc, Star Trek usually runs about ~46 minutes with credits, and Stargate runs about ~44 minutes with credits. There's no reason we should count a set of DVDs that runs say 900-1000 minutes as 1 DVD.
Another example of this is the separate volumes that ADV Films are infamous for releasing. Such as Andromeda and Farscape. If you buy the single volumes, each of those count as 1 title, which will make 5 titles for a single season, but if you buy the season sets, that just count as 1 title. I have the first 3 seasons of Andromeda in separate volumes, that's 15 titles. But if I were to buy the season sets, that would only be 3 titles. So you see, that by changing the way we count TV sets should, if anything, be more accurate in representing the number of DVDs we actually have.
Now, I'm not saying that we should count "extras" discs as DVDs, because they aren't the "feature". Even though a lot of these extras have their own entry in the IMDb, that really doesn't matter because as we know, the main issue here is the main feature to be used in the count.

Oh, and that said, i'm hovering around 200 and will probably stay around there thanks to Blockbuster's trade in deal and an attempt to streamline my collection.

Oooh, it's like a "mine's bigger than yours" competition in here. Ha!
I'll play (minus the sick and bulky VHS collection): 914, though easily half of that is anime....the cool thing is, I've maybe paid for a dozen of them, total....the rest come via family and industry connections....that's good and bad:
Good: LOTR DVDs!
Bad: Blood Spattered Bride DVDs...two of them. :-(

They accumulate over time. It's shocking when you realize how large the collection has become. Lately, I've been staying away from higher priced editions of things like Hellboy gift set & Van Helsing Ultimate, they seem to be a waste of money.
Picking up older catalog titles like The White Dawn or the rest of the older Midnight Movies releases for a fiver each is what drives most of my collecting/watching. I fall for some of the marketing ploys though, and my somewhat desperate (successful) attempt to acquire the recent F13 boxset w/bb bonus disc (at retail) proves that. I love extras.

I don't think the size of someone's collection matters at all. I find a collection of 100 great titles, especially if they're obscure titles, far more interesting than a collection of 2500 mundane big releases and walmart bargin bin titles. Accordingly, I'm alwasy pruning titles from my collection that I don't find particularly good.

I have around 900 dvd's. And i do get a lot of wow's, when people see my collection. But then again i am only 19 years old. But when i start college, i will put my dvd's in my bedroom or something, don't want them standing in my living room.

I'm sprinting towards 400. My tastes are broad enough (and some might say shitty enough) that I can easily see myself over 1200-1500 at some point.

laserdogg = damn $70,000 worth. you could buy a house with that much. Hell, I guess by the time I gain some age I could spend that much myself. I only have maybe 60 LD and 750 DVD, plus I am pruning always. I would bow before you collection if I ever met you. Question: Where, how do you store 1400 LD - my 60 seem to take up a ton of space?
Oh and LightTrinity - 6000 - I can not fathom that.
