Yeah, sorry for the causing all that confusion, guys. Having already sold my disc, I had no way of performing a bullshit check on myself, so apparently my memory played tricks on me.

Got mine today. No insert, lousy case, DVD was hard to get out, Disc has minor discoloration swirls on playing surface.

Rammsteinfan 10-26-04 10:09 AM

Dang you must have got a bad copy... mine was easy to get out, disc was in good shape, cover was better than expected and no insert. ;)

PJAceto 10-26-04 10:47 AM

The little pocket in the front flap had a piece of cardboard with a security device in mine, no insert.

OldBoy 10-26-04 10:51 AM

just take insert from old and put in new and yay!!...that's what the pocket is there for...they must have known!!

mdc3000 10-26-04 03:26 PM

the packaging is terrible...but having the Thing in anamorphic is AWESOME.

It played fine. Is this discoloration thing bad? I've had a few of these with no problems.

Willh51 10-26-04 07:52 PM

I love the packaging, very study on my copy. My disc also has like a darker weird ring on it and then some lighter. I think this has something to do with layers and is normal, I know I've had ones like that before.

demonio 10-26-04 11:02 PM

yeah I picked her up today.......no insert booklet, but why have the pocket for one?

Rammsteinfan 10-26-04 11:04 PM

just to piss off consumers? ;)

Mine sits on the shelf waiting for delivery...while somewhere, someone is opening up their used DVD of The Thing and wondering if it was supposed to come with an insert.

just noticed today that my Divimax edition of Dawn of the Dead featured the same milkcloud. anyway....I could pull out over 100 "stained" discs and they all play fine.

so far.

I noticed at Circuit City today that this DVD now comes in a keepcase. Shaking it, it still sounds like there is no insert though.

bboisvert 10-25-05 12:37 PM

Yes, I can confirm that (a) it is now out in a keepcase and (b) there is no insert.

I definitely prefer the keepcase version... I was never very happy with the odd packaging that the picked the first time (including, of course, the pocket that serves no purpose once you toss out their advertisements).

ShagMan 10-25-05 01:35 PM

wow, holy bump, Batman!

And so no folded over digipak-like holder huh? I took a look at mine, and newer keepcase release has probably lost lost all that cool artwork on the inside of the previous release.

I looked on the inside of mine, and there, in the "insert holder", was the Best Buy override receipt that said "Best Buy Bucks" from a previous McD's monopoly game!

Snowmaker 10-25-05 01:59 PM

I'm still debating the double dip. Is it worth it from the previous release?

Mr. Cinema 10-25-05 02:30 PM

If you prefer an anamorhpic transfer over a non-anamorhpic one, then it's worth it.

But would it be a noticeable difference if I only have a regular 36" TV?

matome 10-25-05 04:56 PM

^not really. Widescreen TV's are where anamorphic transfer shine.

nightmaster 10-25-05 05:35 PM

I can live with the digipak, I've had it for a year at this point and it still looks great. Was more than happy to double dip for anamorphic widescreen but not for a case change.

Long before I bought a widescreen HD set I was making sure I bought anamorphic widescreen discs with a good a print as was available, so when I upgraded my video hardware, my DVD collection wouldn't need to be overhauled as well.

Considering that the print has been remastered and shows better color rendition than the first release, I would say yes.

Yeah, I can pull quite a few discs from my collection with this exact cloudiness and they play fine. It bugs the hell out of me when I first open them, but after the initial shock I'm ok with the cloud.
