I still need to get The Paradine Case and obviously Lifeboat. Then I'll have his sound films except for Waltzes from Vienna. There's still quite a few silents I don't have yet (about 6 by my count)

Thanks for the Saboteur responses - I'll be picking that one up soon as well as Lifeboat!

Cameron, does the 10/18/05 date still work or have you heard anything newer on a release date?

I would bet that this release date will stick, since Titanic is coming out the same day.

Studio logic...

dvdplanet is usually pretty dead on with their release dates. I would say there is a good chance this will stick.doubt we will get any official work until at least next week though. Most of the studios and major websites are out at comicon, and a whole wealth of announcements should be made (though i doubt lifeboat falls into this category.)

This is a major completion title for me. When i started buying dvds years ago, my first goal was a complete collection of Hitchcocks work. this is a big piece of the puzzle. Still need Champagne to show up with that newly recorded soundtrack. and a few other this and that things.

I missed the info on the Titanic SE release date. Definately makes sense to release the two on the same day. As in your case Cameron, this is defiantely a "Holy Grail" title for me as well. I'm anxiously looking forward to retiring my well worn VHS tape.

I got a look at the cover art today for this (it was in one of the advance release trades magazines we get at my video store) and it looks great if it sticks. Half the cover is blackish water with the lifeboat and cast in the middle and a darkened sky above. Very horror film'ish, in a way. A photo of Hitchcock is on the bottom of the spine.

If I had a scanner here or at the store I'd oblige. Trust me, though, very sweet cover although lends more to, say, Jaws then Lifeboat. Also in that mag, I found today, are covers for the next wave of Fox Noirs. Whirlpool is really nice and, I believe, my favorite thus far of all the Fox Noir releases. Sure all these will be up online any day now.

Yeah, what the hell? Never seen that sort of special edition thing at the top, and this certainly doesn't look like a Hitchcock film!
Nonetheless, I like the approach.

That is an absolutely beautiful cover. The type font is especially nice.

I just pray that Fox doesn't change it before its release.

Nice cover! I'm picking this one up anyway, but if I was on the fence about it, that cover might be enough to sway me.

Picked it up at lunch but haven't screened it yet. TONIGHT!

Walked all over Best Buy...endcaps, NR table, Drama, Horror...finally broke down and asked a clerk for it. Said "It's in the back." Yeah...you can sell a lot of copies with them back there.

Can't wait! Hadn't seen the cover yet and when she handed it to me I had ta give it a second look. Beautiful cover. $14.99

From the Entertainment Weekly review: "... But 'special edition' really should mean restored print."

I know they're not always right, but I'm hoping they're wrong on this one since the release information posted above mentions restored picture.

Gah! I couldn't even get mine out of the slipcase at first! The slipcase has a cutout on the back to expose the UPC code on the keepcase, but the hole is covered with a sticker with the UPC code that also covers part of the slipcase, effectively taping the two cases together. The sticker came off in pieces (be careful or you'll take part of the slipcase with it). This is getting ridiculous!

I'm at work, so I haven't been able to check out the picture quality yet, but there's no mention of a restoration on the cover. That's usually the kind of expense studios like to brag about.

I picked this up as well today. I didn't know it was being released, and I've been wanting to see this one for years. I've never seen the movie before in my life, so I am especially excited! Here is the DVDBeaver review:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDRev...dvd_review.htm

I love the artwork as well, and the slipcover has a very shinny and glossy look to it. It's really eye catching, it's great.

I just picked up a Liveboat repro poster the other day -- all set to give this disc a spin.
