SOTL. I picked it up at the mall right after I received my first DVD player (2001, late start) and as Hannibal was coming out. I couldn't find the older SOTL release, and I
at the $40 price tag of the CC, but I didn't know any better. Now I'm looking at this OOP CC SOTL that I opened...but at least I enjoyed it with my wife.
BTW, YMMV

I believe it was This is Spinal Tap, which I got for about $11 new online. One of my first online DVD purchases. I think the second was Silence of the Lambs which I got for 33 cents in the 800.com 3 for $1 deal. Those were the days.

Not only was it my first Criterion, but it was the reason I bought a DVD player. I was wandering through Tower Records (used to be on Newbury Street, Boston), and saw it. I was like "whaa...?" It was cheap compared to the LDs I'd always considered beyond my means, and promised to be better than my old VHS. I bought it.
A few days later, I bought my first DVD player. A Pioneer DV-414, which is still working liking a champ in the second bedroom system.
