the new millinenium edition says theatrical version, isn't the suppose older 2-disc uncut?

the 2-disc is not rated and 86 minutes long. How long is this theatrical cut?

there both 86 mins long, but one says threatical cut and the other says nothing. So this may not be the uncut version

That wouldn't make sense; 'Re-Animator' was released unrated in theaters.

Also, it would make no sense if disc one had the R-rated cut, but disc two had all the extended scenes from the R-rated cut.

87 or 88 minutes. It's a bit longer than the unrated.

well i wasn't sure and didn't feel like taking the chance. Also it would be pretty dumb for a 6 dollar difference between rated and unrated.

The R-rated cut was created specifically for video and received that rating a year after it was released, so the theatrical version is uncut.

As for the R rated version. I found a mint sealed copy on ebay a month ago and decided to get it for the hell of it. Interesting but ultimately forgettable version of the film. The pace is off,the filler scenes slow everything down,dark humor is lost,it's pretty boring actually. A couple of the deleted scenes were good and could work in the film,but the most of the 20 minutes was filler. Oh and the finale in the morgue is over in about 2 minutes in the R version!..and all the other gore is missing as well.

Pretty much feels like watching a tv version where all the pizaazz,style and energy is nonexistent.


So ultimately,the only worthy version is the original unated theatrical version

Out of curiosity, was it a bootleg? I didn't think they'd released the R-rated version.

It has a soft spot in my heart because I saw it before I saw the unrated version. The next night, we went and found the unrated version ... at the point when he stabs Hill's head with the letter holder, to prop it up, we said "This was worth it."

But I really like the hypnosis subplot. The scenes are a bit long, but a lot of stuff makes more sense with Hill having that bizarre mind power.

They did release they R-Rated version.

I have both on VHS. All the scenes from the R rated version are available as suppliments on the DVDs though. Weird/stupid sub plot about Dr. Hill being able to hypnotize people.

But the upshot is that the new version of the "ME" is the same unrated theatrical cut as the old version (or pre-price reduction version) of the "ME"?

Silly me, I should've realized she probably didn't mean DVD; I knew it was on VHS, I didn't think it was on DVD.

It would be more stupid if the movie hadn't been shot with that subplot in mind and awkwardly cut it out (the scene where he's attempting to hypnotize Meg, until the dead-father interrupts, works much better with the R-rated footage; in the unrated version, it makes Hill seem like a creepy dork, in the R-rated, it's a menacing scene). I'm not saying you need it, of course, just that it leaves weird gaps with the whole subplot excised.

No my VHS copy of the R rated version was legit. Unopened,Standard Vestron logos on the case and everything.

I do think the all black box looks more attractive than the blue unrated box though Oh and just for reference. The R rated version does not include the trailer for Lifeforce after the film like the unrated VHS.

Anyway maybe 5 minutes of the added footage could have been used in the unrated version. The bit with Herbert shooting up on his serum helped explain alittle bit of how they got away with the previous morgue scene with the Dean. Mentions they convinced the cops he went insane and lost his mind.

But the majority of the added footage seemed drawn out and unpolished. Like viewing a rough cut of the film. Some fine tuning with the editing,cutting out the slack and leaving the more important bits(dialogue) of the scenes intact could have helped the film and still flow together well.

I forgot about that scene, I always liked it; I think it's cool (though it doesn't make sense) that West uses his serum so he doesn't need to sleep.

Yeah, I agree with this; I think they left it long because they really were just using it for padding; they had a movie which was under 80 minutes long, so they needed to get it back to roughly it's original length (it wound up a few minutes longer, actually).

I remember, specifically, the dinner scene, where Hill hypnotizes Halsey, is *way* too long, but sets up Halsey being irrationally angry at Cain and West much better. I also think it just makes Hill seem more dangerous. But, yeah, it would've been really cool if they'd tried to make that stuff as tight as the rest of the movie.

Okay, are there two Milennium Editions? I know there was an old Elite version out there, and the 2 disc Milennium I have... is there *another* Milennium Edition (i.e. a third distinct DVD release of the movie) or am I just reading this all wrong?

DRG it appears to just be a price drop of the original M.E. release. No differences expect in pricing.

Some sites are listing this as: Widescreen 1.85:1 Color (Anamorphic).
Others are listing it as: Letterboxed - 1.85:1

Is this newer version (whether it's a price drop or a re-issue) Anamorphic Widescreen???

It probably is, since the initial release of the ME was.

I hate to keep bringing this back... but we don't yet know for sure what's up with this release? Probably just a price drop, but still unconfirmed?
