I'm sure the dvd will come out on October 25th. The guys from Grindhouse would not give out a release date, unless it were coming out. Now if they had said "It should be out this year",you can bet your ass it won't be coming out anytime soon
You can email the guys from Grindhouse yourself at [email protected] and ask about the release date yourself

August 11: CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST DVD battles censors
Grindhouse Releasing finally has a date for its uncut CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST DVD—October 25—but censorship problems may delay the release of the 1979 Ruggero Deodato gore spectacular. Grindhouse’s Sage Stallone and Bob Murawski have run into a potential distribution roadblock due to their “graphic and offensive” packaging of the notorious Italian flick.
With scant months remaining before the debut of HOLOCAUST’s 25th Anniversary Collector’s Edition (see previous item here), two major printers have refused to handle artwork for the disc. While the DVD is set for nationwide distribution through Rykodisc, the printing obstacle is causing last-minute panic for Grindhouse in light of the Halloween street date. The art in question is not even featured on the DVD’s outer sleeve; in fact, Grindhouse deliberately designed the disc’s display packaging to shield sensitive eyes from the potentially disturbing imagery within.
“Simply put, everything we came up with was deemed too offensive, or something that would cause us to automatically forfeit precious retail shelf space at this moment in time when chain stores are being busted for selling violent video games,” says Murawski in a statement. “The real cover, the one that compromises in no way, shape or form, is the cover of the Deluxe Signature Case within the sleeve—one with an image that no other release of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST has had the guts to use. And this is the cover that no printer in this supposedly free country will print.”
The first indication of trouble cropped up earlier this month, when a printer arbitrarily decided not to handle any artwork associated with CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST—including the deliberately “inoffensive” outer slipcase, which simply depicts a screaming face captured within a camera lens. When Murawski suggested that the cover image was “tame,” especially by comparison to other DVD titles handled by the same printing facility, a printer’s representative refused to discuss the reason behind the ban. Rushing the artwork to a second printer, Murawski met with a similar response. Management reviewed the “offensive” images and declined to print the CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST art unless Grindhouse revised the graphic design. No specific notes were submitted with the rejection, but objections most likely centered on the inner-sleeve reproduction of the notorious scene featuring a naked woman’s body impaled on a wooden stake.
Stallone and Murawski steadfastly refuse to change the artwork or compromise the disc in any way. Grindhouse has been working on the CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST DVD for over five years, battling many obstacles, from bootleggers illegally selling inferior copies of the movie to the threatened seizure of a 35mm film print by town officials in Lexington, Kentucky.
“Despite the cowardly and hypocritical actions of these censors, we will not back down,” says Stallone in a statement. “This latest incident only confirms the power of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST to disturb and shock audiences. We believe the public should have the right to view this DVD in its uncensored form with the deluxe packaging intact. A couple of hypersensitive printers are not going to stop us from realizing our vision and giving consumers the best possible product.”

I haven't seen this film in years but would definitely consider purchasing it if a better version is released on Region 1 DVD. I don't have an all region player so importing at the moment is not really an option for me .. but eventually I would like to purchase an all region player

But that image was on the cover of the first EC disc that I have (although not an actual photo from the film). Couldn't they go to a printer out of country? I can't quite remember, but wasn't the image of the woman hanging by hooks from her breasts used somewhere on the insert from Grindhouse's Cannibal Ferox?

Or what if US Customs tried to declare the returning shipment of foreign printed covers as obscene and refused to allow them to be imported.
(highly unlikely I know, but weirder things have happened)

Yeah, I guess that the image in question is something entirely different than the impaled woman, but there has to be someone out there that will print it, and of all places on the inside of a keepcase! I mean, who the hell is printing the limited edition covers of Aftermath?
And if it ups the MSRP for it if they go out of country, or if you can only buy it online, so be it.

don't know if that is a boot or not, but that release has the image of the impaled woman on the cover. also I can't remember but wasn't the impaled woman image used on the back of last years 2 disc French release?
I really hope this whole printing issue gets fixed, I'm tired of waiting for this DVD

August 23rd. But don't look for it in any B&M stores. Online only. (Although, I have a friend who is ordering it for the independent store he works at, and I think I'll get it that way. I don't mind the original cover. Actually like it better than the disgusting one shown a few posts up. I'd rather have my gore safely tucked away in the movie.)

From what I gather about Aftermath is the 'graphic' version is a flip cover. So the cool and more attractive artwork cover is on the front. But supposedly some retailers/printers wouldn't carry, nor stock the dvd with the 'graphic' flip cover. I find that rather pathetic actually. Since it's not like it is the main cover and viewable to the public!
And frankly,I would have prefered a graphic artwork cover, instead of a graphic stlll photo. The graphic still is disgusting and makes me want to puke...and NOT see the film. Meanwhile a graphic artwork cover would catch my eye with "Hmm,this looks like it might be interesting".
So I prefer the 'tame' artwork cover they are using. It's really awesome and something that jumps off the shelf at me.

Guess I'll find out when my friend gets it in for his store in a few days.
And I agree with you, Julie, about graphic art being more attractive than a graphic still.
