Caravan of Courage is what the film was called (well, subtitled, actually) in Europe (where it was released theatrically). For some reason, I see the title a lot in the States too... even though it was never called that here.

I have a bad VHS copy. I'd buy the DVD just for the cartoon portion and to laugh at Luke in his make-up and Leia singing.

Is anyone familiar enough with the cartoons to know by the titles what will be on these discs? I know some VHS tapes were released years ago. Maybe these are the same?

Boba Fett was featured in an episode of Droids - I would think they'd want to release that one - & stormtroopers & an Imperial officer were in at least one episode - maybe more.

Season 2 of Ewoks had a very different look & feel from season 1. I wonder if we'll get a "movie" from each season. & will it have both theme songs?

Even if 100% went to charity, I'm not sure I would waste money on the holiday special.

I’ve got the Holiday Special on DVD and it comes WITH the original toy commercials integrated as they aired! Can’t beat that. And it’s a good quality DVD (well as good as something of that nature can be).

Also, a hammer won’t help Lucas anymore (thanks to the net).

I also have all Droids episodes. A total total shame the cartoon DVDs won’t be complete. Guess I’ll stick with the versions I have. Might pick up the Ewok movies if they’re $5-$6 each.

My friend has the Holiday Special on DVD. Its sooo painful and funny.

Just looking at Carrie Fisher and thinking how much drugs she must have taken prior to her scenes, its amazing she is still alive.

Sounds like you get both of them together for $14.99 MSRP. Pretty good deal, actually.

Really? So if both are $8 on DDD it would be pretty sweet (despite the fact that they're about as painful to watch as the Holiday Special).

Three New DVD Double Features Take Viewers Back to a Galaxy Far, Far Away: ""EWOKS'' & ""DROIDS''

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 2004--
Favorite "Star Wars" Characters Headline Classic Animated Features and Live-Action Films Arriving on DVD for the First Time Ever

Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced today that fans will soon get to journey back through time and space with C-3PO, R2-D2 and the adorable and resourceful Ewoks as they set out on adventures of their own in three new DVD double features. Available on DVD for the first time ever on November 23, 2004, each DVD includes two feature-length titles, which include "THE HAUNTED VILLAGE," "TALES FROM THE ENDOR WOODS," "CARAVAN OF COURAGE," "THE BATTLE FOR ENDOR," "THE PIRATES AND THE PRINCE" and "TREASURE OF THE HIDDEN PLANET." Priced at just $14.98 SRP (U.S.) and $16.98 SRP (Canada) each, these double-feature DVDs offer an outstanding two-for-one value.

The "EWOKS" and "DROIDS" animated features recount the adventures of these enduringly popular "Star Wars" characters before they appeared in the classic feature films. "CARAVAN OF COURAGE" received an international theatrical release and was subsequently broadcast on U.S. television in 1984, followed by its sequel, "THE BATTLE FOR ENDOR," which aired in 1985.

"There has been considerable interest in these titles from the core fan base for some time, so we've packed these DVDs with two features each to offer even more than they ever hoped for," said Jim Ward, Vice President of Marketing and Distribution for Lucasfilm Ltd. "We're excited to bring these productions to DVD and introduce them to a new audience of young fans."

Synopses:

"STAR WARS ANIMATED ADVENTURES: EWOKS" -- Two animated Ewok features recount the years before the Battle of Endor. Here Wicket is a young Ewok struggling to achieve maturity in his community. This leads to a series of adventures with his friends: Princess Kneessa, heir to the chieftain, Latara, the aspiring musician, and Teebo, the animal empath. Together, they help the adults protect the village from their enemies like Morag the Tulga Witch and their rival species, the Duloks.

"STAR WARS ANIMATED ADVENTURES: DROIDS" -- Two animated Droid features recount the adventures of C-3PO and R2-D2 before they met Luke Skywalker as they serve various masters over the years. As it turns out, their lives were no less hectic as they became involved in battles against gangsters, pirates and the Empire.

"STAR WARS EWOK ADVENTURES: CARAVAN OF COURAGE/THE BATTLE FOR ENDOR" -- Two live-action features document the Towani family's adventures with the Ewoks. The Towani family are stranded on Endor after their shuttlecraft crashes on the forest moon. Separated after the crash, the children, Mace and Cindel, must gain the support and trust of the Ewoks in order to rescue their parents who have been captured by a giant monster, Gorax. The Ewoks and Towani children go on an adventure to rescue the captured family members. Upon return to the Ewok village, an army of foreign invaders attacks them. Cindel and an Ewok, Wicket, escape into the forest where they meet Teek and Noa, who, like Cindel, also crashed with his Starcruiser on Endor. Together they must defeat the marauders.

Lucasfilm Ltd. is one of the world's leading film and entertainment companies. Founded by George Lucas in 1971, it is a privately held, fully integrated entertainment company. In addition to its motion picture and television productions, the company's global businesses include Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound; LucasArts Entertainment; Lucas Licensing; and Lucas Online. Lucasfilm's feature films have won 19 Oscars and its television projects have won 12 Emmy Awards.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment International are operating units of Fox Filmed Entertainment, a News Corporation Company.

No, the Ewok movies were all originally made-for-TV (even though they played theatrically in some non-U.S. countries). Everything was composed for 1.33:1.

My opinion is that the Ewok movies are entertaining as kids films, especially if you're a Star Wars fans. Not great, but flawed entertainment. Either way, they're vastly superior to the Ewok and Droids cartoons. Never thought much of those.

Lucas should just release the Holiday Special. Give all of the proceeds to charity or something...
Lucas won't release that because he hates it. Even if he did release a DVD, it would sell so few, that he'd probably lose money on the DVD. Just like THX-1138 is probably going to do. THX fans should feel lucky that Lucas decided to release THX-1138 in a 2-disc set at all, because I'd be surprised if it sold 200,000 copies. It's a great films, but not all that popular. Most people don't even have a clue what it is.

I think this is a ridiculous opinion. Most people don't have a clue what MOST DVDs released each week are. Does this mean that all but 30 or 40 DVDs a year make money? I should be grateful that a movie I love is being released in a bastardized version while the true version will just fade away?

I respectfully disagree with both of these opinions:

1. The Holiday Special. Yes, it's crap. But do you really think that putting out *any* DVD with Star Wars on the cover will lose money? If that were the case, we wouldn't have the R2-D2 True Hollywood Story spoof, or the upcoming Ewok/Droids discs. Star Wars DVDs will sell -- to kids, to fans, to casual buyers. And many people would buy this just for the curiosity/MST3K aspect of it (which is the same reason the bootlegs for this still continue to do well on eBay and the convention circuit).

2. THX-1138. I agree that most have no clue what this is... but "probably" going to lose money? I highly doubt that. It's a George Lucas sci-fi film that is being heavily advertised (for a catalog title) and coming out at the same time as the Star Wars trilogy. This is going to sell very, very well. It obviously isn't going to outsell Shrek or The Matrix, but it's going to make plenty of money for everyone involved.

Be careful for what you wish for. The SW Holiday Special is an abomination of human endeavor.
