I bet this 'unrated' version is really the R rated verson
Since I recall this was briefly released in theaters with a PG-13 months ago..I at least saw previews for it & lobby ads in theaters for its release with a PG-13. Then months later,it was back and rated R.
Still nice that they do make the more toned down version in P&S only. Haha, take that P&S lovers!

The director said more of the "unrated" material lies within the "sexual content" of the film (including a specific scene involving the two "lesbians"), but who knows, a few of the trailers included footage not seen in the final cut of the film. The "unrated cut" could be just an extended cut of the R-rated cut and the director is pulling our leg after all.
But one thing is for sure, the international red-band trailer included a more racier version of the "lapdance" scene (the girls giving Matt and Mr. Peterson lapdances are topless, unlike in the final cut in which they're clothed).

Hmm,well I do remember seeing alot of trailers originally months before the release saying PG-13,unless they were mistaken. It's happened before.
That was what made me originally not interested in seeing the film. I heard something about sexuality, one charecter being a porn star or stripper and thought "dammit..they copped out on yet another teen film!".
Which is why it was a surprise to me,to see it listed as R rated when it came out in theaters.

This was easily one of the best teen movies in ages and is one of the best movies so far in 2004, so I will certainly be picking it up. MATT

From the ever wonderful DVD Answers...
"Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced The Girl Next Door which stars Elisha Cuthbert as a former porn star that moves next door to a lusting teenager. Yeah, like that's ever going to happen! The film will be available in seperate rated and unrated editions from the 24th August this year, priced at $27.98 a piece. As for technical specs, you can expect both discs to carry 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen presentations and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. The only extras on the rated edition will include an audio commentary by director Luke Greenfield and a Trivia Track. The unrated edition will carry both of these, in addition to the following features: a Scene Specific Commentary by Emile Hirsch, a Scene Specific Commentary by Elisha Cuthbert, The Eli XXXperience Featurette, "A Look Next Door" Making of Featurette, Gag Reel, 16 Sexy Deleted or Extended Scenes, including original ending with an optional Director's Commentary, Stills Gallery, Girl Next Door Trailer "Dirrty" too racey to show on TV, Upcoming Theatrical Trailers and one easter egg. You can also expect the unrated disc to be 'packed with steamy added scenes'. I'm afraid we don't have the artwork yet, but we hope to bring you that shortly!"
