I'm already excited to get the Earthshock and Pyramids of Mars DVD's, which come out the first week of Sept. I wish they would do 1 DVD every 6 weeks instead of 2 DVDs every 3 months, it would make the wait a little more bareable.
By the way, I understand, sadly, that the Lost in Time collection will be the last Who DVD release of 2004, I was hoping another complete story would be included with it. the next two DVD's come out in Feb. 05. also... rumours are that Attack of the Cybermen (6th Doctor) and Claws of Axos (3rd Doctor) are going to be two of the DVD's released in 2005. |

There was a little more added to the Gallifrey Post when I just read it.
While a report today on the Sci Fi Online site says that the first UK DVD release of 2005 will be the Patrick Troughton story The Mind Robber, it's been denied by the Restoration Team, who say that the first 2005 release is "definitely in colour"! Nor will it be either Attack of the Cybermen or The Claws of Axos, both of which we reported months ago were on the tentative 2005 list (and which, we still believe, will be part of the 2005 collection.) In fact, the first release is "something much more interesting than any of those," we're told. All these are, of course, just rumors until confirmed by BBC Worldwide. |
More interesting than Mind Robber, Attack of the Cybermen or Axos? What the hell could it be then? The only thing I could think of would be the Beginnings boxed set - but to have two boxed sets back to back like that doesnt seem the BBC's style.

Tom Baker isn't my favorite Doctor, but he's the most popular and has the most stories, so it makes since to release more of his than the other Doctors. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Geneis of the Daleks, Terror of the Zygons or Seeds of Death.

The Daleks Return: Deal Worked Out for New Series - Updated! August 4 Great news this morning: the BBC and the Terry Nation Estate have achieved an agreement that allows the Daleks to return to Doctor Who in the new TV series, despite word to the contrary earlier in the year. Tim Hancock of the Terry Nation estate told BBC News, "I am absolutely delighted that the Terry Nation estate and the BBC have been able to reach agreement on terms for the use of the Daleks in the new Doctor Who series. We look forward to working closely with the production team in the forthcoming months." The Nation estate, said BBC News, had accused the BBC of trying to "ruin the brand of the Daleks" by trying to wrestle control of the image. "We are absolutely delighted that the Daleks will be back," publicist Antony Wainer of the DWAS told BBC News. "Doctor Who without Daleks would be like Morecambe without Wise or Wimbledon without strawberries." By the way, for those wondering: this was NOT a publicity stunt. According to several sources, this went straight down to the wire, a desire by both sides to reach an equitable agreement. Hah - I knew the Nation estate would fold. They have this amazingingly profitable property . . . . that they cant do a damn thing with outside of the context of Doctor Who.
So, once they played their little game and figured out that they indeed were being held by the short and curleys by the BBC, they would cave. I wonder if it's soon enough to get into season 1, or will we have to wait for S2? And Axos is cool. It's time we had some proper Master episodes on disc. |

I'm a long time fan of Doctor Who ever since the first episode I've seen from the start of Tom Baker era to the end of the entire series and was able to watch the reruns starting from William Hartnell and onwards.
Well, anyways, I was wondering will they still have the suspenseful ending that they always had as you wait for the next episode in the chapter? I hope they do. That was an important part of Doctor Who in my eyes. |

I know the show very rarely used those in the past, but if we cant have the traditional cliffhanger every half hour, perhaps we can get a mini-cliffhanger at the start of every week. |

some people are posting rumors over on the OG Doctor Who forum that The 1st Doctors (William Hartnell) Web Planet will be a 2005 DVD release.

The Web Planet is one of the few stories that I usually put into the VCR if I need to fall asleep quick. It works all the time. That's why I'll get it when it comes out on DVD. THAT, and because I'm a die-hard Who fan.

The Sci Fi Online site features a new update on possible UK DVD releases in 2005. The site picks up on Outpost Gallifrey's previous reports that The Claws of Axos will be part of the 2005 schedule and backtracks a bit on their previous report that The Mind Robber will be the first 2005 release (it's now a "contender" for early 2005 according to the site), but also adds the name of the William Hartnell serial The Web Planet to the list of possible releases. (The article notes that the story "will pose a few problems for the VidFIRE video estimation process due to the smearing applied to the ‘exterior’ shots, something that the software may have problems processing.") Members of the Restoration Team have noted that the first DVD release of 2005 will be "interesting" and will definitely be in color... it will not, however, be a set of the new TV series' episodes, because they won't have been broadcast by then. Another story on the same site says claims one of the features on the Lost in Time DVD collection release coming soon will be film inserts from episode 1 of The Space Pirates, which were not previously known widely to exist. We have yet to see any official confirmation of this, however. |
