The One and Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (Version 6.0)
http://www.gallifreyone.com/graphics...nner090904.jpg
NOTE: To make this Thread more friendly and less daunting, all past Who releases are now thumbnail jpgs while the newer releases are regular sized. All title links go to the Restoration Forum so you can gander at the work they put into each release (when available). I've had to create seperate Posts on this thread because it became harder to manage all the Images in one Post (plus, I wasn't allowed to). First Post is the LATEST NEWS and UPCOMING RELEASES. Second Post is PREVIOUS RELEASES (in the smaller jpg images). Third Post is the BBC Releases for Region 2 (not yet available for Region 1) and the Spin-Off DVDs (such as the BBV DVDs of The Stranger and The Airzone Solution and the latest Reeltime DVDs such as Mindgame. Each is Who-related in someway). Third Post also has the Who Links that's usually at the very end of my Posts. Hopefully everyone can stick ALL Doctor Who-related queries to this Thread instead of backing away from it in fear because of the size. Thanks to everyone who suggested the upgrade/downgrade. OK, here's my problem.
Every time we get a new OFFICIAL DOCTOR WHO thread, I don't get notified of it via e-mail. I'm subscribed to the official thread, so I get notified any time there are any updates, then suddenly, there's a new thread, and I don't know about it unless I happen to come strolling in here looking for the ****ing thing. What would be perfect is if, before starting the new thread, you just add a post to the old thread letting everyone know about the new thread. But for all I know, you've done that, and I've accidentally deleted the e-mail. I don't know, I can't find the old thread! It looks like you've just deleted it. Is there anyway to automatically transfer the subscribers from one thread to the next? |

suggestion... for people kind of new to Doctor Who, why don't you put the Doctor and year next to the story title?
for example... The Aztecs (1st Doctor, 1964) otherwise looks great. :) Can't wait to get Seeds of Death! |
Love the new thread.
Thanks, and keep up the good work! |

Looks great! awesome!
Only two more weeks until we get Seeds of Death! I can't wait, the 2nd Doctor is one of my favorite Doctors and I LOVE the Ice Warriors, plus Ive only seen this story once way back in the 80's and remember nothing about it. It will be like watching a new story for me. I'm thrilled to see this soon! |
Is there a site with reviews of the newest releases? (Seeds/Three)
I have a huge backlog of DVDs and finally started watching my Dr. Who discs (in order). :) |
For a change of pace, I thought you might be intrested in looking at www.oh-mummy.com. The behind-the-scenes of the Pyramids of Mars easter egg-turned full blown extra.

A question to those of you who have The Sontaran Experiment / The Genesis of the Daleks VHS tapes: How good is the transfer? At the risk of sounding like a Noob, if this is already commercially available on VHS, can't a port to DVD not be too far off? Just curious, because the Who restoration team is doing a stellar job on the DVDs but if it's already out there and looks decent enough, why wait to release arguably the most popular Doctor Who episode ever?
(I'm new to the Who DVD realm. After watching it as a kid decades ago, I've finally picked up my "starter" Doctor Who DVD, The Robots of Death. Needless to say, there will be more Who DVDs to come.) |
I agree Genesis of the Daleks is just about the best Who story, I'm sure it will be on DVD sooner than later. the Key to Time stories got a basic release like you were talking about, but Im sure with Genesis the Resturation Team will want to do a full super edition.
glad you liked Robots of Death! next I would go for Talons, because it's the story that follows right after Robots, or try one of the 60's stories like Tomb of the Cybermen or Dalek Invasion of Earth! |
I, for one, will be the first person in line to pick up a Genesis of the Daleks DVD.
And I second the Talons recommendation. Those 6 episodes whiz by. Andrew |
Im watching every episode in order from the beginning for the 40th anniv. right now I'm listening to the audio for the lost Dalek's Masterplan Episode 4, I promised myself I won't cheat and watch them out of order, but I might have to cheat when Seeds comes out on DVD.
has anyone ever done the whole series in order? I find I like the character of Vicki alot more now and it was really sad when Ian and Barbara left. |
Originally posted by turborobb has anyone ever done the whole series in order? I find I like the character of Vicki alot more now and it was really sad when Ian and Barbara left. During the 30th Anniversary, I watched every Who video that had been released at that time (No Big Finish back then and very few "Missing" Audios). I have fond memories of staying up until 3am watching The War Games in it's entirety. I really enjoyed the team of The Doctor, Jamie & Zoe (in fact, my youngest daughter is named Zoe) and felt a swell of sadness when The War Games was finished. Things were never really the same after Ian and Barbara left. The ever-evolving aspect of the show began at that moment. As a teenager, I always thought it was weird that Spoiler:
But then...I was pretty geeky back then. Andrew |
I keep meaning to start the "26 year plan" someday - an episode a week where possible, with the novels filling in for the missing episodes. Of course I need to get cracking on this right away - if I keep putting it off, I'l;l be 70 by the time the Classic series is done!
But yeah, I have done the series in order once or twice. There were a couple of episodes I missed (didnt have them on tape), but was more or less right. |
agghhh... I could never do one episode a week, it would take forever! I'm doing about one episode (sometimes two) a day and it's still taking a long time. In the 80's my local station played one episode every day at 6pm, so one a day seems right to me.
I know have every episode on either DVD, VHS or audio (for the lost episodes) |
question:
My favs are #2 and #3. I enjoy both of these Doctors the most. How many complete (or almost complete) series will we see on DVD? I know #2 didn't fair to well. thanks. |
Originally posted by Scot1458 How many complete (or almost complete) series will we see on DVD? The third Doctor fares much better - all of his episodes exist in some kind of format (some only as black and white episodes, but at least they exist). The problem with some of those episodes are that they only exist as NTSC masters - when converting from PAL to NTSC and back to PAL again, the end result looks like crap. The Restoration Team has the technology to do the conversion, but at the moment it's too expensive to use. |
My favs are #2 and #3. I enjoy both of these Doctors the most. How many complete (or almost complete) series will we see on DVD? I know #2 didn't fair to well. The 2nd Doctor, sadly, only 6 of his stories exist in full and 2 stories almost exist, but are missing 2 episodes out of 6 and 8, those are Ice Warriors and The Invasion, both have been released on video. here's the 2nd Doctors stories... SEASON 4 Power of the Daleks - 6 episodes, all missing Highlanders - 4 episodes, all missing Underwater Menace - 4 episodes, only episode 3 exists Moonbase - 4 episodes, only episodes 2 and 4 exist Marca Terror - 4 episodes, all missing Faceless Ones - 6 episodes, only 1 and 3 exist Evil of the Daleks - 7 episodes, only episode 2 exists SEASON 5 Tomb of the Cybermen - 4 episodes, all complete (on DVD) Abominable Snowmen - 6 episodes, only episode 2 exists Ice Warriors - 6 episodes, episodes 1, 4, 5 and 6 exist (on VHS) Enemy of the World - 6 episodes, only episode 3 exists Web of Fear - 6 episodes, only episode 1 exists Fury from the Deep - 6 episodes, all missing Wheel in Space - 6 episodes, only episodes 3 and 6 exist SEASON 6 Dominators - 5 episodes, all complete (on VHS) Mind Robber - 5 episodes, all complete (on VHS) Invasion - 8 episodes, episodes 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 exist (on VHS) Krotons - 4 episodes, all complete (on VHS) Seeds of Death - 6 episodes, all complete (on DVD) Space Pirates - 6 episodes, only episode 2 exists War Games - 10 episodes, all complete (on VHS) it's such a shame, some of those stories like Abominable Snowmen, Fury from the Deep and many others are all time Doctor Who classics. Many of them have been released on audio CD however. all the lost episodes exist as audio recordings. I have a few of the missing episode audio CD's, they are great to listen to. I think you can get them on amazon. |
So basically 8 series survive for the most part for Doctor #2? That is too bad. My first one I saw of him was TOMB OF THE CYBERMEN, and I could'nt believe how good it was.
He did appear in 3 other shows though right? The two doctors, the three doctors, and the five doctors if my memory serves me right. |

Will they be PAL converted to NTSC converted to PAL converted to NTSC? |
