BTW, how many people listen to the Big Finish audios?

I have the majority of them and have put them into DVD cases to match the DVDs! I've got about almost 2 shelves worth!

I use to collect the audios but gave up. The writing became pretty stale for my taste. Last one I got was Zagreus and was pretty much turned off by the whole thing.

I did like the Unbound series (well, the one's I heard).

Tell you guys what - *IF* my contact comes through for me like I anticipate, then we can talk about . . . . um, getting you guys a chance to see them. Since this isnt VHSTalk, we'll take it off the board as the time draws near.

Still, they dont even have a premere date yet - we have some time.

As for the Big Finish audios, I um . . collect them. Some are quite good (as I mentioned the Colin Baker ones before) and some are quite dreadful (Ish, for starters) - just like the real TV show they are baised on. For the most part, however I do enjoy them. It's less intensive than trying to keep up on the books (I gave up on those years ago - the Scream of the Shakla novel aside)

I'm also buying all the Who DVD's. So far I'm about five or so behind, but I'm slowly catching up...

I used to get almost all of them, but slowly lost interest in the last year. Omega was the last one I got. I kind of gave up after that. Some were really great, mostly the Colin Baker audios and some of the McGann ones.

my favorites were "One Doctor" (Colin Baker), "Bloodtide" (Colin Baker), "Jubille" (Colin Baker), "Red Dawn" (Peter Davison), "Mutant Phase" (Peter Davison), "Genocide Machine" (Sylvester McCoy), "Sword of Orion" (Paul McGann), "Eye of the Scorpion" (Peter Davison), Marian Conspiracy (Colin Baker), "Colditz" (Sylvester McCoy), Project Twilight" (Colin Baker), "Seasons of Fear" (Paul McGann), "Spare Parts" (Peter Davison), "Pirates" (Colin Baker)

however, there were some that are just horrible. I can sit and watch my least favorite Doctor Who TV episodes and find something to enjoy, but "Time and the Daleks" (McGann), "ish" (C Baker), "Minuet in Hell" (McGann), Rapture (McCoy) and a few others have been so unlistenable I just couldn't finish them.

But there was just too many disappointing ones to be spending $25-$30 each importing them. It seemed for every great one there would be 1 or 2 bad ones. It seems they are tring to hard to be weird and artsy with the audios instead of just giving us a great straight up Doctor Who story.

BIG FINISH WHAT??
- for those of you who have no idea what the hell we are talking about, there's a company in the UK called Big Finish who have been releasing audio Doctor Who adventures on CD (kind of like radio plays) with the actors from the original series playing the parts. (no, Tom Baker hasn't done any yet) sadly you have to import them into the USA and it runs about $25 for one double disc story. However, I've picked some up on ebay for as low as $8

here's the web site...

I have all of the audios in the main Big Finish series. I still subscribe to them, in the hopes that some good stories will come along. But I agree that the quality has declined the last couple of years. The Natural History of Fear was great. Zagreus was good overall, but it could have been shorter. But that could be said about a lot of the TV stories. I have to give Big Finish credit for being experimental. Stories like Scherzo, Dr Who and the Pirates, and Master tried to different, even though they really didn't work for me.

I haven't kept up with all of the spin-offs. The new Gallifrey and Unbound series sound interesting, but I haven't heard them.

Twin Dilemma

Yeah, it really it. This is all just my opinion of course, but the story failed for me on just about every level.

The thing that hurts the most is how they made The Doctor so unlikable. He's constantly selfish and, worst of all, he tries to kill Peri. That really crossed the line. They didn't need to go that far. The whole unstable regeneration theme of the story was a poor excuse for his behavior.

The story, the main villian, and those henchmen with a few feathers glued to their faces all felt lame to me.

But, as I said before, toss in some interesting special features, and I would buy The Twin Dilemma on DVD. Sad but true.

I've been lurking in this thread for a while, but I am finally breaking down and posting. I was a huge Dr Who fan in the 80s and early 90s, before giving up on the show when it finally ceased production. The Colin Baker and McCoy eras were huge duds to me (The Twin Dilemma utterly stunk, and Timelash, yeesh), but I'm curious to re-visit some of the McCoy stuff to see if it's any better now. I finally picked up my first Who DVD the other day with Pyramids of Mars, and it was just as good as I remember in 1985 when I used to watch it all the time. Now if they can just get a release of "The Deadly Assassin" out there, I'd be ecstatic. Though "Horror of Fang Rock" is a great choice next year as well.

I've been buying all of the DVDs, both region 2 and region 1. I gave up on the audios mostly due to cost.

The new series start is looking like it might be March.
