It is $14.99 or less in most places.

The Jerk is a film which I loved when it came out. However, it does not hold up well over the years. I really can't see this deserving a special edition.

I've got the current crap edition and they should have tested it on prisoners first.

I'd love SEs of The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and The Three Amigos!

I could do without Three Amigos, but the others, sure. Bring on the SEs.

By the way, "I think it's pronounced 'azaleas.'"

But even if they make a SE, do you think they'll actually incorporate these scenes into the movie? I figured thye would just dump them into a deleted/tv scenes section on the DVD (not that it'd be a bad thing) seeing as they probably weren't supposed to be part of the movie in first place and were just readded to pad the runtime.

Oh yeah EPJK, your right. Just like Young Frankenstein and Monty Python and The Holy Grail, it just doesnt hold up.

What is your idea of a comedy that has stood the test of time anyway; Hot Dog : The Movie?

A decent DVD of this film must be produced.

I never saw the version with the leather seats, but I would love to. I own Jerk, MW2B and Dead mean dont wear plaid. I just don't wanna wait for the studio to put out a better version. Maybe if Cheaper by the Dozen is a hit, they might give some Steve Martin movies the royal treatment. So if you care about seeeing these movies on DVD special Edition, I guess you should see Cheaper over and over and over again, no matter how lame it may or may not be.

I found my Special Purpose!

Any news to whether or not a SE version or at least a anamorphic widescreen version is in the works? I have been holding off buying this movie since it came out in 98. If I had a 4:3 television still I think I would of caved in already and bought the crap fullscreen version. This movie is too good to not get the basic treatment of OAR.

Dammit. I thought this was bumped because Universal came to their senses.

Oh well. Still enjoying my fullscreen version.

My question is whether the current version truly is pan & scan like IMDB claims. Since this movie doesn't have any CGI special effects or an OAR of 2.35:1, it seems more likely to be an unmatted version of fullscreen to me. Usually the way the opening titles and closing credits appear in a movie can be a dead giveaway as to whether the rest of the film has its sides cut off. (Of course, extreme close-ups and/or seeing the camera pan all over the place is a pretty obvious clue also.) Just curious what others might think, because I haven't seen it in years and I'm considering buying this DVD as well.

Then all of you can thank me once the #1 Rennervision Curse is activated, and a special edition is announced within the next 45 days.

I haven't watched my VHS copy in years, but I believe the movie was open-matte.

I won't buy the DVD, it's no better than the VHS copy I have. But I'd jump all over a Widescreen SE, hopefully one with the TV scenes, though Universal doesn't usually do that (Born In East L.A. has an entire 3rd act of the film that was added to the TV version that was not included on the DVD)

Same with Fast Times At Ridgemont High... There's a few scenes added to the TV version that haven't appeared on any of the discs released.

I aslo agree, about the DVD being no better then the VHS for this film... It's a damn shame. Bring on a SE!!!

I'm just glad we have the movie on DVD in any form, but I'd love to see a cleaned up SE of this one. Martin when he was on top of his game.......if we can have the watered down, politically correct, all for profit vehicles he's been doing the last several years in various forms of SEs we should certainly be able to have The Jerk released with some care.

I wonder if an SE will ever happen on dvd? Does anyone think that they might wait for a SE when hd-dvd or blue ray come out?
