Would you have bought these movies if they didn't have the Criterion label on them? I often wonder if we're more obsessed with the fact that they are Criterion releases than anything else.

Here is my modest Criterion collection:

Silence of the Lambs
Robocop
The Rock
Traffic
The Royal Tenenbaums

No I would not have, but then again I would not have ever experienced them. I actually like all the movies I watched and the best part about it is I can sell them for roughly what I paid for them if I don't.

In most cases yes. I have several foreign films that are not Criterion, but in almost every case the quality of Criterion's release make stuff from Fox Lorber and others look pathetic. I have taken a chance on several titles because I liked so many other Criterion releases. I've only been disapointed by Sisters and I quickly sold it.

My List.

I just have a few:

Royal Tenenbaums
8 1/2
M
Third Man
Brazil
Chasing Amy
Unbearable Lightness of Being

None were blind buys (although I have a few I haven't seen yet on my Christmas list), and all are movies I probably would have bought even if there was no Criterion.
