When I first posted in this thread, almost two years ago, I had 10, but now, after thinning out my collection several times, I only have one: The Royal Tenenbaums.

I only have a few

Wrong Man and Notorious Women: Hitchcock Collection
-Rebecca
-Notorious
-Spellbound
-The 39 Steps
-The Lady Vanishes

-The Royal Tenenbaums

And I just ordered "The Third Man" and "The Battle of Algiers," so they should get here in the next few weeks.

There are a lot more I would like to have, but I'm going to wait until after Christmas to start buying them. I'm not going to try to get every single film in the collection (they're far too pricey for that, in my opinion,) but there are a lot of films that they've released that I really enjoy and will get at some point.

I posted in this thread a couple of years ago, and have added a modest amount to my collection. Criterions are a neat subset to collecting DVDs in general, for several reasons:
1. Spine Numbers (yeah, collecting something *JUST* for that reason is kind of cheesy.)
2. Other collectors to whom I can talk about the discs.
3. Exposure to a wide range of films that I probably wouldn't have seen otherwise.
4. Resale value of most titles is the same as I paid for them.
5. Resale value of OOP titles can bring some big bucks (or I can hang on to them, and relish the satisfaction of paying ~$30 for something worth ~$100 or more.)

That being said, here are my titles and prices I paid:
003 - The Lady Vanishes - incl. in box set
013 - Silence of the Lambs (OOP) - $22.98 - Wherehouse Entertainment (Used)
014 - Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto - $10 - Pawn shop
020 - Sid and Nancy (OOP) - $30 - Used record shop
021 - Dead Ringers (OOP) - $25 - Used record shop
023 - Robocop (OOP) - $39.95 on E-Bay
055 - The Unbearable Lightness of Being - $17.96 - Deep Discount DVD
056 - The 39 Steps - incl. in box set
057 - Charade (old version) - $28.49 - Best Buy
075 - Chasing Amy - $10.79 - Best Buy
078 - The Bank Dick (OOP) - $14.95 - Wherehouse Entertainment
079 - W.C. Fields: 6 Short Films - $14.95 - Wherehouse Entertainment
098 - L'Avventura - $19.99 - Hastings Entertainment
100 - Beastie Boys Video Anthology - $14.99 - Wherehouse Entertainment
120 - How to Get Ahead in Advertising (OOP) - $25 - Used record shop
135 - Rebecca (OOP) - $73.10 - Deep Discount DVD (box set)
136 - Spellbound (OOP) - incl. in box set
137 - Notorious (OOP) - incl. in box set
157 - The Royal Tenenbaums - $9.99 - EB Games
184 - By Brakhage: An Anthology - $14.97 - Wherehouse Entertainment
196 - Hiroshima Mon Amour - $21 - Wherehouse Entertainment

Of the other OOPs, I definitely want to find the 1st version of The Seven Samurai, and I would like to get The Killer, Hard Boiled, This is Spinal Tap, Playtime (might they re-release this??) and probably Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula. Salo probably isn't my cup of tea, although I would like to see it once, and if I found a legit copy at a pawn shop or something, I would get it in a heartbeat. I don't know much about Straw Dogs, but I would probably get it if I found it cheap enough.

After picking up the directors/actors that I wanted, all of the Japanese films, and random discs, I would probably have at least half of the collection, if not more. Akira Kurosawa, Fritz Lang, Lawrence Olivier, Terry Gilliam, Jacques Tati, David Lean, to name a few, would start things off, along with various titles I am interested in, and then I might move on to sample Bergman, Buñuel, Cocteau, Fellini, Fuller, Goddard, Melville, Neame, Renoir, and Truffaut, and single titles that I might like.

I have a chance to buy ~100 of the first 150 or so discs (no more OOPs) from the same record store I bought many of the above titles. I probably would end up paying ~$1500 or so, depending on how many titles he has left when I can afford them, and what kind of deal we work out.

Here is my modest Criterion collection:

Silence of the Lambs
Robocop
The Rock
Traffic
The Royal Tenenbaums
And I often wonder why people who don't like foreign and classic films will quit bitching about people who love what criterion does and are willing to give their releases a shot solely on their very well-deserved reputation. I also find it amusing that it never fails that a person expressing such distaste for Criterion loyalists invariably list these same flicks as the only ones they own, and are proud of it.

Mine:
Grand Illusion
3 Women
Ali: Fear Eats the Soul
Ballad of a Soldier
Cranes are Flying
Blood For Dracula
Bob le Flambeur
Le Cercle Rouge
Wages of Fear
Diabolique
Le Corbeau
Coup de Torchon
That Obscure Object of Desire
Do the Right Thing
General Idi Amin Dada
The Importance of Being Earnest
The Life and Times of Colonel Blimp
Rushmore
Royal Tanenbaums
Silence of the Lambs
Lady Vanishes
Spellbound
Notorious
The Leopard
Tin Drum
The Long Good Friday
Monty Python's Life of Brian
Rififi
The Shop on Main Street
Straw Dogs
The Third Man
Walkabout

With Tanner '88 and The Cassavetes Box Set on the way

here's my little list.

armaggedon, brazil, chasing amy, fear and loathing in las vegas, the royal tenenbaums, rushmore, and silence of the lambs.
they're all movies that i love (well armaggedon isn't holding up that title much anymore) and just wanted the best representation of the movie.
p.s. i know that the silence of the lambs se probably has better picture quality and sound but i really like the commentary with the fbi guy. and i'm a sicko who likes to read what the serial killers have to say, so i stuck with the criterion.

Just a few:

The Rock
The Royal Tenenbaums
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I work at a video store, and tried to order 400 Blows Criterion but apparently it's OOP. DVDAF doesn't have it listed as such though. So I was disappointed with that. Still new to the "serious" collecting of DVDs.

I didn't have time to count. All I can say is that the pile of CCs is now above my waist and I have about 7 more coming.
