garmonbozia could you tell us what parts of the series long life are covered by the 21 disks? Did they ever go back and do the pre-Barnabas episodes to DVD? How mush is someone looking to spend for 21 volumes? How amny episodes are in a set?

Thanks,

There are four discs in each collection. They are finishing up the chronological order of 40 episodes per collection. It was posted previously (either here or in a seperate thread) that after all of the remaining episodes are released, they will release the pre-Barnabas episodes as well as the films. Amazon usually has the pre-order price around $42. There is more info on the individual collections here:

MPI has said that they plan to release the pre-Barnabas epsiodes when the end of the current run......I reckon that will be around set 26. There will probably be 5 or 6 sets of the early episodes. Then MPI will probably be releasing the 1991 revival series on dvd as well.

The release of the 2 films however, has nothing to do with MPI. As far as I know, Warner Bros. controls the rights to these and have always just replied "We have no plans at this time......." when asked about releasing the films on dvd.......which is a freakin' travesty.

well, Collection 1 starts at episode 210 with the introduction of Barnabas Collins, exactly where the vhs releases started when they came out many years ago. The last collection released, Collection 19, contains episodes 942-981. I've fallen a little behind and am still on Collection 16, so I have some catching up to do.

as mentioned above, there are 40 episodes in each collection. EAch set has an MSRP of $60, but you can usually find them for $40, give or take a few dollars depending on the website (but i think $40 is a good average), especially as a preorder price......so that's about $1 per episode. so for 21 sets it would cost around $800-$900 depending on where you get them.

glad to hear that the SciFi airings hooked new fans. I didn't have cable during that time so was unable to rewatch it then. I first saw the show when I was kid during the PBS syndication run. I previously saw the parts of the show covered approximately by collections 11 to 17, so I had a lot of new stuff at the beginning and a lot of new stuff coming soon (I'll be starting collection 17 tonight........like I said, I've fallen a bit behind).

what parts of the show did you see on SciFi?

I just read about this too. Great News!!!
For whatever reason, MGM is releasing this on dvd, and not MPI.
Doesn't matter much to me!
Now I'll just be hoping for the films!!!!

Dark Shadows - Revival Series Rises For October Fright-Fest!
Posted by David Lambert
8/05/2005

We weren't planning on talking about this until Monday, but DVDPlanet.com has broken the news with their pre-release listing for Dark Shadows - The Complete Revival Series! Barnabas is back, played by Chariots of Fire star Ben Cross, in a 3-DVD set from MGM. List price is $39.95, but DVDPlanet is selling it for just $27.97. The release is on October 18th, just in time for Halloween fun! We'll have more information about the DVD release itself next week, when Sony/MGM officially announces the set.

For those of you who need reminding, this remake series came from Dan Curtis, the man behind the original '60s version of the show. There were only 13 episodes made (including the 1990 pilot) before the show was cancelled. What went wrong? Bad timing: the show's regular broadcast debut was around the same time in January, 1991 that the U.S. Gulf War started! The show got knocked off the airwaves in most markets, in favor of news updates about Operation Desert Storm.

Despite the show's short life, it made remarkable progress quickly along the trail of the plotlines from the original series (we won't spoil the story for those who have never seen it, though, so no descriptions of that!). Besides Cross, the show featured standout actors and actresses, both on a regular basis and as guest stars. Names that you'll probably recognize (or at least you would recognize where you should know them from) are Lysette Anthony (Krull) as "Angeliqué", Joanna Going (Dean Koontz's Phantoms, Into The West) as "Victoria Winters" and "Josette", Roy Thinnes (The Invaders, Falcon Crest as "Roger Collins" and "Rev. Trask", Jean Simmons (Spartacus, North and South) as "Elizabeth Collins Stoddard" and "Naomi", Apollo Dukakis (brother of Olympia and Cousin of Gov. Michael Dukakis) as "Rev. Amos", and Adrian Paul (War of the Worlds: The Series, Highlander: The Series as "Jeremiah Collins".

This is wonderful news! Wasn't there supposed to be another attempt at a revival series in addition to the one soon to be released?

A pilot was shot for the WB but it didn't get picked up. Portions are to be shown at upcoming DS conventions.

Eventually, Barnabas will get another try.

i think it's fantastic news, since I watched the revival series before I watched the original. I was 6-7 when the revival series came along and I have nothing but good memories of it. So I already put my family on notice of my birthday gift.

Dark Shadows - An Evil Moon Haunts The Killer Cover of Dark Shadows Revival!

Last Friday we reported on the long-awaited DVD release of Dark Shadows - The Complete Revival Series, which MGM is bringing out on October 18th. Amazon is now taking pre-orders for this 3 disc set for $27.97, which is a good price break on the $39.95 SRP! On top of that happy news, we now have this box art that makes me shiver right down to my soul...

Great to see the Revival Series coming at last- now if we can get the theatrical releases on DVD at long last DS will have made the transition into the 21st Century! (As opposed to 1897, parallel time, and allll those other time periods they jumped into....)

well if you ever want to find out what happens next.....you can always watch the original show......as the 1991 version basically took its whole plot from the original......it just moved through the storylines at a much faster pace.....

if you watch the original show, you'll know what happens after the 1991 show ended........
