Sounds good to me.

That is the most perfect definition for this list I've ever heard. Good call!

Turns out "Future Shop" is a Canadian only retailer so maybe Valeyard was right and this was exclusive to Canada, but i'm positive i saw a metal slip case in a Best Buy ad or something when this came out. Who knows....seriously..who knows? Does anyone remember anything like this?
Anyway, i've got no use for it..plus it doesn't even fit the 3 disc version, only the single disc release.

Oh my God, that sucks in so many ways! Did the auction state it was for the 3-Disc (Ultimate) version? If so, you may be able to get your money back for it not being what was claimed.
The only exclusive I remember for Van Helsing was the bonus disc from Best Buy (which I bought). I eventually traded-up for the Ultimate Edition and kept the bonus disc.
Sorry for the bad auction.

Updated.
I decided to keep the After Dark Horrorfest stuff after the title like the Tartan Extreme titles. In the end, the reasoning was these are actual movies while the Masters of Horror titles are a part of a television series.

Makes sense about the After Dark series...
Oh, and that little UPC rule of thumb i think should be ammended to only single movie slipcases with a UPC underneath belong on the list. I looked at some multi-disc boxes of mine like "Dirty Harry Collection" and "Batman Anthology" and those are just groupings of stand alone movies (UPCs on box and individual flims) and should not be included..make sense?

Slipcovers for week of 5-1
Man, i thought there'd be a ton of posts with all the new ones out this week..
Just what I've seen...
Dreamgirls (2 disc)
Fletch - Jane Doe Edition (lenticular)
Happily Never After (embosed)
Sandlot 3
Anyone else?
Also, Valeyard, I bought a lot of slipcovers from ebay and one of them is "Day After Tomorrow" lenticular, was that a store exclusive, cuz i didn't see it on the main list...
We should figure out a way for people to list what they need and have and set up a trading post....

You sure about that Dreamgirls slipcover? I've been to several stores this past week and have never seen a slipcover for Dreamgirls beyond the Target exclusive.
I can't find That Thing You Do & Big at Best Buy so I can't say for certain that they come with slipcovers (tho they should knowing 20th Century Fox's usual 2-Disc trend).
The Lost Room
Masters of Horror: Family
Dirty Dancing: 20th Anniversary Edition
I saw a bunch of other stuff this weekend but didn't have my paper & pen on me (cause it's in my jacket and it's been too hot to wear one lately). I'm gonna make a special trip later this week to jot down as much as possible.

Right again cheif..i was thinking of the Dream Girls Target Exclusive....And i confirm the Big and TTYD sc....just to recap what's new, i've seen
Donnie Brasco Extended Cut (watching it now)
Revenge of the Nerds: Panty Raid Edition
Sandlot 3: Heading Home
Happliy N'ever After
fyi, i think i'm gonna start doing what you did Vale, using my signature block as a posting for my top 3 slip case needs, and if other people do the same, we'll work out some intergroup cross-pollination. I just bought a big box o' sc on ebay and alot are doubles, so post what you need folks, and maybe we can help each other

Gryf, what format of Hitch do you need?
Hey Gryf,
If you want Hitch Full Screen, i got that sc for ya. As for Heat SE..i'm looking as well. We should all probably annotate Fool or Wide in our "Wish Lists".
Pan's L will probably have sc for the single and double discs sets (I'm still so pissed that it lost best foreign language film). Stomp the Yard will probably have one too. Oh, and for some reason Targets (at least around here) has restocked the lenticular 2 disc Superman Returns slip cover. It's really nice...

DVD Talk Gold Edition
Perhaps we should start a thread in the exchange forum?
I might be able to get a couple here and there as long as one doesn't mind them coming from a used store. I did see Fever Pitch with them at K-Mart recently (perhaps Target also but can't be sure).
Ones I would like..
Confidence
The Descent (Original Unrated Cut, Widescreen)
Duel
The Last Waltz
The Manchurian Candidate (1962): SE
The Proposition
A Tale of Two Sisters (2-Disc Unrated Version)

SC exchange
Cool, I think i can get the "Descent" and "Confidence" for ya. I think the best way to standarize our "SC Wish lists" is do what Valeyard did, pick your top 3 (or 2 or 4, whatever) and make it your signature so it's a quick reminder and easy to edit. Then, if 2 people get to the point where they need info to change hands, they'll just email each other directly.
Nice...This could work out well, i went thru my extras today and i really think we can help out.. And if there are any that are really needed or wanted (like Gryf's 2 disc "Heat SE") point it out and i will proactively look for it in stores since i'm usualy making the rounds on Tuesdays anyway..

"The Fly" slipcover and group question...

Oh, and i just reacquired the 1982 John Carpenter movie, "The Thing" on DVD. That is one of the best slip covers (and movies, imo) ever made. Such a cool, "under the ice" effect like the "Fargo" SE. But i guess unlike "Fargo", it almost crosses that line of being integral to the DVD itself, huh? It's like Pulp Fiction or Tombstone. You don't ever see that DVD being sold sans sc. i guess we need a Valeyard ruling..
either way, it's a kick ass slip cover.

Yeah. The black Fly SC is awesome! It's almost shocking when you pull the case out and the cover underneath is WHITE.

Does the Thing SC have a hole where the UPC should be?

The Thing SC
The version i have has the UPC on the slipcover and nothing underneath. in fact underneath is just a getefold with Production paintings on all sides...no text at all. But here's my senility kicking in again, i thought later releases of "The Thing" included a standard DVD "amary" along with the frosted plastic slipcover (like Fargo). Maybe i'm wrong and it's always been like this, who knows. But to be sure, the copy of "The Thing" that i'm holding, shouldn't be on the list as a slipcover. When removed, the gatefold just flops open at will.

Holy Grail of SCs...
Look at the iron fist come down...that's why you're the big cheese. Nice call, but honestly i wasn't trying to start another discussion on semantics.
Let's get back to our "most sought after" slipcovers. How bout a consensus of what would qualify as the pinnacle of slip covers..whether that means hardest to find, the most graphically intricate, most original (and this should be independant of the quality of the movie).... Here's a few of mine...
T2 Ultimate Edition Metal case
V for Vendetta - 2 Disc Lenticular (Target Exc)
Grease Pink Lady Satin Jacket (Target Exc)
btw, did you include either Grease Jacket (T-bird or Pink Lady) slip cover in the list? Maybe they don't qualify....good point to discuss..

Hmmmmmm. The Grease jackets. Technically, the do "slip" over to "cover" the DVD case. AND we do have other forms of slipcovers listed (such as the metal covers). Eventually, I'm sure Paramount will release the DVDs without the jackets.
Maybe they should be on the list.
I found another extra slipcover up for grabs: The Circuit City Superman Returns 3-Disc exclusive.

Slipcases for 05/15/07
Just got back from Best Buy. Here's what I saw (the major ones, SnapOnTool predicted already - good call!):
Pan's Labyrinth (Single Disc)
Pan's Labyrinth: 2-Disc Platinum Series
Stomp The Yard
Becket
Home Improvement: The Complete Sixth Season
Masters of Horror: Right to Die
Older Titles:
Code Name - The Cleaner
Queen, The (Our first and only "Q")
Producers, The (2-Disc re-issue)
Award Series:
Some Like It Hot
Independence Day (!?!)
West Side Story
PS - I saw a The Thing DVD sans SC too. The cover was exactly like the SC & cover combined. Just flattened together into one image.
