It appears that the buyer of the new copy, was also trying to win the used copy. I'm not sure why, as he had already bought a new copy for a lots less than what he was bidding on, for a used copy.

I have a few theories, but nothing that I want to post on the open board.

well, you went over my head :) r u basically saying the auctions are shady or the bidder?

No, nothing of that sort, but it doesn't make sense to bid high on a used Steelbook when you already have a new Steelbook for lot less.

If I was bidding on that used copy and noticed this after the auction had ended, I would have sent an inquiry to both the seller and the bidder.

Shill bidding is hard to prove and only eBay would have the resources to investigate such allegations.

If I remember correctly, wasn't PotC: Dead Man's Chest steelbook given out at checkout when you bought the 2 Disc version? I don't think there was a sealed version of the steelbook.

TOMHOLJEN1 11-23-07 08:21 AM

Potc 2 was given out at the checkpint when purchasing the special edition version which has a sleeve around it. Maybe a sealed version was from another country?

Hello JiveGuy,

Welcome to the board.

There is usually a lot of Canadian eBayers that will sell new releases and than some. Another option you have is to post your request here and see if any Canadian DVDTalk members can help you.

I should advise you that because you are a new member, you will probably not get too much help here. You need to build a "rep" before people will trade/barter or deal with you.

Good luck to you on eBay.

Hey Scott1598,

I picked up three more (2 were very HTF) Steelbooks.
My collection is up to 24.

Woohoo :toast:

JiveGuy 11-23-07 10:41 PM

"...build a rep"

Looks like I'm screwed.

I am however surprised there aren't more Canadians taking advantage of this and selling more FutureShop DVD's on Ebay.

I just saw your other post in a different thread and all three titles that you are looking for, Ocean's Thirteen, The Departed, and Spider-Man 3 are available on eBay.

You should be able to pick up the Departed from Best Buy, unless you specifically wanted the Canadian version with the Collectable Art.

There is presently only about 5-7 Canadian eBayers selling Steelbook DVDs, as it is still considered a niche market.

To illustrate, type in Ratatouille Steelbook DVD on eBay and see many listings it brings up. Now, remove "Steelbook" from the search word and see many listings come up now.

Good luck to you.

All are new/sealed Future Shop copies; Pirates 2, V for Vendetta and The Grudge 2. The Grudge 2 was under $8.00.

I never thought about going to a used CD/DVD/Music store for Steelbooks. I'll have to give that a look.

Jonno2006 11-24-07 12:08 PM

Huh? Pirates 2 steelbook is uber rare and yet you BOTH found it in a store somewhere...?

I never said that I found this in a B&M store.

Speaking of ultra rare, the X3-The Last Stand Steelbook sold for $6 this morning on ebay. Turns out I was up so late searching for it, I over slept and couldn't bid on it. Two things worry me about it though

1) The picture of the DVD is the stock picture from Amazon.

2) He never really mentions that the case and comic COME with the actual movie. Oh well, here ya go..

Spiderman 3 sold for $14

that's not the steelbook. it is target's tin which is much different. and it does say it comes with comic and tin from target. i don't think the spidey 3 was the steelbook either. you have to really check these auctions carefully if you plan to bid on these.
also, we don't really post eBay auctions here. just fyi.

JiveGuy 11-24-07 04:33 PM

Once again I learn from your infinite wisdom, Scott.

Only the OP can update the first post. Send Scott1598 a PM and remind him.

I'm looking at getting the following import Steelbooks;

Alien vs. Predator
Gladiator - Extended Special Edition - Bulletproof Collection
Kill Bil V1 & V2
Pans Labyrinth
A Sound of Thunder
Smokin' Aces

I read some where, that the Kill Bill Steelbooks have a problem with the printing flaking/rubbing off. Can anyone that has a copy, confirm this.

from the pics i've seen. KB doesn't look like a steelbook. similar, but it looks to have different dimensions than the traditional which is why i wasn't pursuing that or the Sin City one or any of the new R2 UK ones.

1st post should be up-to-date and used as definitive.

Hmm, that might explain why the printing is of sub-par quality - not the real deal. I'll scratch Kill Bill V1 & V2 off my list for now and do some more investigating.
