Michael Moore's The Big One on 9/28

from The Digital Bits

Here's a great bit of news for fans of director Michael Moore. Not wanting to miss a trick when it comes to cashing in on the recent blazing success of Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11, Miramax has announced that it will release his earlier The Big One on DVD on 9/28 (which would lead you to wonder if maybe Fahrenheit 9/11 will be out on, or shortly after, 9/28 from Lions Gate as well). The film will be released in anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) with Dolby Digital 2.0 audio. No word yet on extras, if any.

Just once I would like there to be a post about a Michael Moore dvd in which some idiot does not reply. If you are not interested, keep it to yourself. After seeing Moore's films I hardly see how anyone can say that he hates America.

Ive only seen 3 of his films (Roger and Me, Bowling for Columbine and Farenheit 9/11).

Are the rest of his docs up to the standard of these 3 as I really enjoyed them. ?

Actually, those three and The Big One are his only full length docs. The two seasons of The Awful Truth are available on DVD and are quite enjoyable, you can see bits of things he would expand on in BFC in that series.

But The Awful Truth can't hold a candle to TV Nation. That needs to be released in season sets.

I haven't seen Roger and Me, but The Big One isn't nearly up to par with Bowling and Fahrenheit. It feels like more of a light-hearted comedy piece than a hard-hitting political and social commentary. It's still a pretty good movie, but it just doesn't have the "punch" of his two latest efforts.

Yes, nothing says "I hate America" more than an anti-outsourcing movie. Get a clue, dude.

This movie wasn't made as much to make a point like Bowling for Columbine or Farenheit 9/11. It was really just him documenting his book tour across the country, and talking with people along the way about how jobs are leaving America by the thousands, and the effects it has on small communities.

It's quite good, and I haven't seen it in years now because I lost my VHS tape of it awhile back. Good to see it hitting DVD.

Considering that out-sourcing ultimately brings in more and BETTER paying jobs than those that leave. Yes, I'd call that anti-American. You get a clue.

After seeing that Fahrenheit 9/11 has gotten the endorsement of Hezbollah to be distributed around the Middle East, yes, I can't see how anybody could say that Michael Moore hates America. Wise up, sir.

Somehow I completely missed ever seeing this, so I'm looking forward to the DVD - thanks for the news!

And, as previously mentioned, we really need TV NATION on DVD!

Wow. I have seen many threads involving MM get much out of line than this. After reading your review of F-9/11 and your love affair with MM, I think this suspension is more politically motivated than you want to believe.

Freedom of speech for all except those that disagree with you eh?

posting threadcraps are one thing. knowingly citing the rules against threadcraps, then posting one anyway, is another. he deserved the suspension, IMO.

Kleinman has done absolutely nothing political but to address a member that recognized the rules yet publicly went against them (twice). Given the context in which the suspension took place I dont see what Kleinman's review has to do with it- two different films.

Now...I also missed this film, so...looking forward to it.

Well, Geoff owns this forum, he's under no obligation to provide any of us with free speech.

But the issue here is that a thread was started about the DVD release. Mike came in took the thread off topic and insulted fans of the film. If someone came into a thread about the DVD release of a Roman Polanski film and started making rapist comments, I would expect the same response. There are other forums to discuss such things.

Whoa. Bit of a difference there between Michael Moore's politics and child rapists. Anyway, people threadcrap ALL THE TIME on this board and don't get suspended. I don't see how this is any different.
