Do you buy sequels even if they suck?

Would you buy a crappy sequel of a move you loved?

Do you do this just to complete your set?

though i guess its not technically a sequel, i will never buy Kill Bill vol 2 no matter what the price is, and i loved vol 1. i also dont have Fright Night 2, or Ring 2, so i guess not.

Sometimes I will buy a subpar, to keep the serie intact. Usually has to be real cheap though and have some watchability to it. The worse one I have is Speed 2 (embarrassed). But I got it really cheap to watch as a blind buy - it is not desiraable so I just keep it to complete the set.

I was just going to get the versions of Alien and Aliens because I really don't like the 3rd or 4th one, but then I heard about the $42 Alien Quadrilogy last Christmas Eve and picked it up. It was worth it to spend $3 more for 2 movies and the 9th disc.

No.

I can't really afford to buy all the movies that I do like,so why would I buy something I don't like?

Absolutely not. I am still waiting for them to split up the Indiana Jones box set. I only want Raiders of the Lost Ark. I have Alien, Jurassic Park, Escape From New York and Highlander. I have no intention of getting any of the sequels.

Sometimes - I bought the Alien Quad set even though I hated the last two movies. I figured maybe the commentaries would tell me why the movies sucked so much. I guess if the movies are in a box set I'll put up the cash. Something like the middle Highlander movies won't ever come near my shelves.

If the movies come in a set that is not split up then I wouldn't hesitate. If I didn't like the sequel(s) and they came out seperately, then no.

Same Director doing the American remake.

As for the question to the thread I shall respond with a simple no.

If I really don't like the other movies I skip them but if they are just ok then I have them. I only have Batmen and Batman Returns but not the other 2. I actually like all the Alien movies. I have all the Tremor movies I even have Fright Night 2. I don't have X-files season 9 because I like season 8 ending. If I find it really cheap I may get it. One case where the movies are uneven are my Hellraiser's. I have all of them, even when they are bad, they are good (in a sick sort of way ). I only have Jaws and none of the sequals. I have Polterguist 1, 2 and 3. I have Warlock 1 and 2 but 3 sucks and doesn't have Julian Sands. When they change the main charactor with another actor I tend to skip it.

Usually not. As others have mentioned if there is a box set then I may pick that up. I don't buy something just because it is a sequel, or if I do (to check it out) and don't like it I'll get rid of it.

I've gone the other way once too... I didn't really care for Gremlins but loved all the spoofs/gags/cultural references of Grimlins2 so I picked that one up

No except maybe as part of a box set (like Rocky V).

I used to buy everything if it was cheap enough just to complete the series but I stopped that since I would never watch them otherwise.

For example, I had the Blair Witch Project 2 cuz I got that for like $2. I got rid of that on half.com for like $3.

I also have Jaws 1 & 2 and I got 4 in the bargain bin. I was considering getting 3 but I realized that it sucked so I ended up not getting it and getting rid of 4 too.

If the sequals are in a set and the set is cheap enough (e.g. Alien Quad like others have posted), I'll get that too.

I sometimes find I enjoy certain sequels and I will purchase those, but if I don't see myself watching a disc enough times to make the purchase worthwhile, then no, I won't make a purchase.

I refuse to buy some movies out of principle. They did such a bad job with the franchise that I don't want to encourage them, even if the completist in me wants to have all of the movies in a series. Examples of this would be any Highlander movie aside from the first one, Terminator 3 (very disappointed with this one), and Neverending Story 2. I also went for a long time without buying The Matrix Revolutions, but I eventually caved. It was disappointing as a finale to the Matrix trilogy, but it does have some pretty cool things in it.

Never. In fact the only sequel I own which I loathe is The Substitute 3, only because I found a "double pack" with 1 and 3 for only $10.

I echo this sentiment as well. I bought the From Dusk Till Dawn Set although part II was a stinker.

Just bought Ginger Snaps 2 unseen / unreviewed and seemed to enjoy it.

Although I'm a huge comic book fan, I only have the first DVDs of Superman / Batman .

I bought the unrated R2 'Beyond Re-Animator' mostly out of love for the original ...

but it also had a rat fighting a penis, so it was worth the cash.

I'll be more inclined to buy a bad sequel to a good movie if the original director is involved ... for instance, 'The Lost World' or 'Escape From LA' (the latter of which I haven't bought yet, but might) or 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2' (which, actually, I kinda like) ... or 'The Godfather, Part III' came in the box, but I'll never watch it.

Sometimes, though, I like to think of the shitty sequel as a "bonus feature" to the original disc ... I bought the 'Billy Jack' box for the price the first two would have cost, for instance. If they packaged both 'Airplane's together, I'd probably buy the second. I would've done the same for 'American Graffiti' if I hadn't already bought it before the two-pack came out.

So, usually no, but there are exceptions.

Guilty as charged. I don't do this with everything, but there are a few I bought because they were cheap and I like to have completion. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (5 bucks) comes to mind. In most cases there is SOMETHING I like about the movie, even if I didn't like the overall movie. Many of the lesser Halloween sequels come to mind.

Nope, but I do blind buy plenty of sequels if they are to movies that I enjoyed. Sometimes that bites me (eg. Book of Shadows)

I only own Leprechaun 1, 2 and 4.

I guess it kind of depends on the movie series (and the price of the sequels.) Usually I'd leave bad sequels alone, but I do own all the Highlander sequels. I guess I enjoyed the original movie and the TV show enough that I felt the need to pick up the other movies.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I buy sequels that suck, but I will admit that if I liked the original enough to buy it, I'm more willing to buy the sequel even with some faults. Think of it as a lower threshold. If the movie was a stand-alone I wouldn't buy it, but it ifs a sequel of a movie I do like, I just might, even if they're of the same quality.
