Do you buy sequels even if they suck?

Nope. But recently I have been thinking about making an exception for the Friday The 13th series.

Sometimes, but usually only when I have no choice (Godfather Part III). I think Superman III and VI suck, but I'm enough of a Superman fan that I can forgive that.

I feel a little dirty owning the Scorpion King, even though it was only $10.

Nope (unless part of a set, See Alien Box Sets).
Own Matrix, Don't own any of the sequels.
Own Godfather, will get GFII, but not III
Own 24 Season I & II, won't get Season III

When I first read the topic I immediately thought that I owned a bunch of crappy sequels, but now that I look, I only own a few. The 007 movies, Nightmare on Elm Street. But on the other hand, I only own Alien 1 and 2, Jaws 1, Jurassic Park 1 and a few others. Wow I guess I have more will power than I thought.

I follow this rule:
If there are two in a franchise, and I only like one, I only buy the one.
If there are three or more in a franchise and I only like one, I just buy that one.
If there are three or four in a franchise and I like at least two, I'll usually buy them all even if I don't like one or two.

It depends.
I don't think Star Trek V is as bad as everyone says, but I picked it up mainly so that the movies don't go I-IV and then VI. I didn't buy Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection, but I will buy Buffy season 7 to finish out the seasons. I also bought Matrix Revolutions, even though I haven't opened and was not terribly thrilled with it in the theater.
I guess it just depends on my level of revulsion towards the sequels. If I absolutely cannot stand it, I won't buy it.
Sometimes I only buy the sequels, though. For example, I own Rush Hour 2 but not Rush Hour. I own Shanghai Knights, but not Shanghai Noon. I wouldn't be against buying those, I'm just not in a hurry.

No, I don't. But there instances where I will buy an average sequel if it is included as part of a package deal.
I bought the Return of the Jedi DVD because it was bundled with A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. If they were individually available, I probably would've passed on ROTJ.
I have Phantasm, and will probably only pick up Phantasm IV... but skip II and III when they become available on DVD.
I bought the Godfather Trilogy even though I probably wouldn't have bought III if they were individually available.
I have skipped the Back to the Future Trilogy because I disliked II and III. I'll wait until the original is made available separately.
I've been holding off on getting the Indiana Jones Trilogy, because I really dislike II and not too crazy about III.

I almost always will complete the set.
I owned Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2 for over a year before I bought 3.
I owned Superman I, II, and III for a long time before getting a really good deal on the Superman Box Set, thus getting IV as well.
I can understand not wanting to complete sets like that, where the films can easily be viewed as separate, but I'll never understand how anyone could say they wouldn't buy all of the star wars movies if they could get the first two by themselves.
Can someone explain to me how you can watch 2/3 of trilogy and not want to see the conclusion? These aren't separate movies, they tell a big story, and regardless of the opinion that Jedi doesn't quite live up to the standards of the first two, it's more satisfying than leaving the story with Luke and Leia standing on that ship, hoping they'll see Han again someday.
To me that would be like leaving a baseball game after 6 innings. Silly...

As for Star Wars "telling one big story"... only in a very superficial way. Because it didn't start out that way. Lord of the Rings is different in that it was always one story from the very beginning.
From the onset, Alien was just a single standalone story. But the sequel, Aliens, stands on its own without having to watch Alien first.

I guess for me it depends on how bad the sequel is. I'm not too nuts about the Star Wars prequels, yet I proudly own them because they're Star Wars movies.
I thought Revolutions was hugely disappointing (marginally enjoyed Reloaded), yet I bought that anyway because I just like to own the conclusion to the series. That being said, I probably won't shell out the extra dough for the super deluxe box set since I'm sort-of sick of the behind-the-scenes stories of the Matrix sequels anyway.

It really depends.
in some things I am a completist, others I stop at the original movie because its the only good one, In other words I dont have a clue (boxed sets make the decision so much easier).
I have all of the "Halloween"s half of them suck (3 doesn't count)
I stopped after "Hellraiser 2"
I stopped at the original "Jaws"
I got all of the James Bond just to be complete (even the unofficial Bonds although "Cassino Royale is an abomination)
I would have never got Omen 4 if it was not part of the Box Set, but would have still got the other 3 (although 3 isn't great)
I Have Star Trek 2,3,4, and 6 (this is truley the exception but I might get 1 and 5 if I ever get around to it.)

Why Doesn't Halloween 3 count, it's easily better than any of the ones that followed it..
and no, i have plenty of films without sequels..
I bought Turbulence 3, but wouldn't even think about owning the other 2

Typically, yes I do buy the sequals to movies. But I only invest in movie series that I know the sequals are half-way decent.
I'd never touch movies like Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare.
However, I use the fact that some movies have sequal in judging what movies to buy in the first place.
