Do you have the "what DVD to watch" disorder??

Sometimes I just end up burning 10 minutes looking at my collection. There are usually too many movies I'd like to watch, oftentimes catching up on watching commentaries. I guess it's a good problem, mostly.

The biggest problem I have is that it's hard for me to watch a DVD by myself. I need to watch it either with a friend, girlfriend, or family member. I love introducing a film to someone who hasn't seen it. Makes it like I'm watching it for the first time too.

NaturalMystic hit it right on the head. Like him, I don't have any problems picking a dvd out and watching it by myself. But when the wife gets involved I may as well watch nothing and just sit there and stare at the blank screen.

Yep, me too. I even have this problem at the video store. I can spend as long as 45 minutes looking for something to rent. I'll look at the same 5 videos over and over, deciding which one. The clerk must think I'm nuts. Maybe I should start posting polls of my top 5 possibles before I go, and let you all decide for me.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. So nice to know there are others like me.
This has been a problem for me for years - books, cds, vhs, and now dvds have all caused the same indecisiveness at least 50% of the time I want to be entertained. The other 50% of the time I'm in a specific mood to see/hear/read
a specific film/cd/book.
And it's worse when my boyfriend is around - he vetos too many titles, so we end up going in circles. It's gotten to the point where I stopped asking if he wants to watch a film/listen to a cd - I just put in a film or cd that I think he won't hate and if he has a different suggestion he'll tell me or change it himself.
Problem solved.
Maybe I should start doing the same thing to myself - if I'm not in the mood for a specific film/cd/book, just take the next one in alphabetical order (starting at the beginning of my collection) and work my way through them all.

I don't really have this problem.
I have so many unopened DVD's and I have been buying so many that I should just make my way through them first. I usually think about during the day what I want to watch when I get home. Sometimes it will change depending on my move but usually not. What time I get home usually has a lot to do with it also. I can normally squeeze in two movies if I get home relatively early. If I get home later, I try and go for one of the 3+ hour epics. Often newer purchases get put to the head of the que. I also always have a movie set like the Monster Legacys in my multidisk player and slowly make my way through them.
If I have company, I'll tailor what I watch to them, which is how I usually end up rewatching something. If the neices/nephews come over, we're watching something light, usually comedy or animation, like Princess Bride, Iron Giant, Titan AE. They also really enjoyed the Right Stuff. PG or below.
One group of friends prefer classics, while an other group really likes foreign, another only blockbusters.
Every once in a while, I'll have the urge to watch an old favorite. For example, I just rewatched M. Hulot's Holiday

I'll sit in front of my collection and pull out anything that sounds interesting. Then I'll look at the ones I've chosen and slowly start to put back the ones that don't look as good as the others. By the time I get down to a small enough pile, I'll pick out all the really long movies and put them back because I've just wasted too much time trying to find something to watch. Eventually I manage to work my way down to one movie. By then I've been sitting for too long and have to hit the bathroom. After I'm ready to go, I'll either watch the one I've selected or out of disgust, just reach in the cabinet and randomly grab something. Then I'll either watch it or give up and play on the computer for a while.
I'm not proud of it, but at least it's some kind of system.
I always set Fridays and sometimes Saturdays aside for something from the unwatched pile. Oddly enough, I don't have the same problem with new stuff. But that's because I've spent the entire week deciding which one I want to watch (although I reserve the right to change my mind at the last minute).

Approaching 300discs, with a number still in shrinkwrap. When I'm looking for something to watch, I start at the top shelf and start going through the shelves until I see one either still in shrinkwrap, or unwrapped but never watched. By the end of summer, I should be through all of them.

I find this part of DVD collecting the most satisfying. I have over 1000 DVDs. I ENJOY to sit in front of them and try to decide what to watch. It is the reason I bought all the movies. I can sit there, enjoy my collection, feel satisified that I own all these movies and can watch them at any time. I feel at peace.
I've known for a long time now that I may not be able to watch my entire collection again. But who cares!!! The important thing is that I CAN watch any of them that I want.

Time is definitely an issue. I don't like to pause a movie midway overnight, unless it's a movie I almost know backwards and forwards. And if it's one of those, generally I want to watch one I don't know that well, to be something 'new.'
I also like to get through some--not all--of the extras at or around the same time as I watch the film; that way deleted/extra scenes or 'behind the scenes' make more sense. Plus, if I put the disk back on the shelf, it'll be a while before I get back to it.
And I try to put Netflix disks at the top of the list, because then I feel like I'm getting my money's worth.
My problem is I'm into tv series recently--between anime and mainstream, I've got probably hundreds of episodes of shows to watch, and depending on how continual the epsiodes are, I don't like to have too much of a break in between. And when you add in some of the tv shows from Netflix [currently going through Tour of Duty, last was Firefly], some of them have 3-5 hours of stuff on a disk.
Current series either being watched or recently purchased:
Simpsons S3, Simpsons S4, Sailor Moon S1/S2, Cardcaptor Sakura complete series, Reno 911, The Tenth Kingdom, and 3 of the 4 recent Disney Treasures [combined with the earlier waves I haven't made it through yet.]
And for some reason a lot of stores have been having deals on PS2 games, so I've got about 18 games I have either not or barely started, so those take time also.
I guess I need to focus on a couple movies soon. But by the time I decide what I want to watch, it's usually too late to watch a full movie. So I fall back on a 20-40 minute TV show.
I somewhat agree with needamazing--I don't have 1000, but it's nice to know 'I have these.' Some of those are things that I want to share with other people, and some I just want to have. But quantity wise, I'm probably sitting at about 30-40% watched, if that much.

This is a horrible affliction. And I suffer from it.
Many times, the twenty minutes or so I browse my collection, drives me toward watching tv ... I mean, it is a bit ridiculous to take so long choosing a movie to watch! It drives my girlfriend mad ... but I am even worse when trying to pick a movie to rent at the video store.
Trying to pre-make the desicion on the way home from work doesn't help either because by the time I get home, my mood has invariably changed. How frustrating. Like everyone else has said, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

This has been my problem for years! Add two small children to the mix and I'm relegated to 10% of the collection. There's only so many viewings of all the Pixar/Disney movies one can take. I guess it could be worse, atleast I'm watching something.

I've always had this terrible problem, I can never seem to find what I want to watch and I guess I normally just give up and flip on the tube and watch something repetitive like sportscenter or CNN
