Looks dope. can't wait. as for those "spoilers" if you haven't seen it by now, you most likely deserve to be spoiled.

Why does this ad "prove" that there are no changed or reworked scenes? It doesn't show the entire films, and just because the altered scenes aren't in the commercial doesn't mean that changes, even BIG changes, haven't been made.

I mean, if they were going to do something stupid with them, like put Hayden in at the end, they sure as hell wouldn't advertise it.

i don't know if anyone has caught this yet, and i could be wrong, but i think i found an altered scene in the trailer.

there's a part in the trailer where they show the scene from Episode 4, right after the garbage smasher, where Han chases after some stormtroopers runs into the big group of stormtroopers on the Death Star. if i'm right the background in this pic is different than the previous versions of the film. i don't remember this alteration in the '97 Special Edition.

can anyone confirm this?

ehhh, nevermind. just watched the SE VHS and found it wasn't new. so much for my observation skills.

This has been beaten to death many times before, but you're putting the cart before the horse. While many fans might've been disappointed in the prequel movies, I'd argue that the majority of the fanbase has been quite rational, and are only upset with Lucas for refusing to make available the original classic movies they fell in love with. Lucas is not apathetic because fans are complaining; fans are complaining because Lucas is apathetic.

I just read the following on theforce.net :

Dave Prowse Talks SW Trilogy DVD
Tue, Jun 08, 04 10:03:44 PM EDT

Dave Prowse was on US radio today and talked briefly about the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD. jedimaster_eric tells us:
David Prowse was on Indy radio this morning 99.5 WZPL, and a caller asked if the new added tweaks were a rumor or true. David said the new tweaks are a done deal.

With all the "AND" and "PLUS" 's ....you would think the trailer would have said, PLUS newly added scenes. C'mon

It looks like the lightsabers were enhanced. They never glowed as much as they did in that trailer. And it looks like there's an extra color tint on first death star explosion and an extra explosion on the second death star before it blows up. Well we do know that its the Special Edition versions of Star Wars because of the Wampa.

Just downloaded it, thank the maker for haxors, the internet just wouldn't be as fun without them

The lightsabers do look a little better, and there was definitely SE footage in there. I tried to watch some of the space battle scenes around Endor for the magic tie fighters to see if they've been fixed, but I couldn't tell.

It will be nice to have these on DVD, I just hope something will convince Lucas to release the originals too someday. It really makes no sense to withhold them.

FYi...

If you'll recall the trailer for the Indiana Jones movies, the reflection of the snake was still in it and yet it was fixed for the DVD release.

Don't go by the trailer as far as what will finally be.

Here's what i think is funny about this:

DP had such loose lips that when the climax of ESB was shot, he was given the line 'Obi-wan is your father" and the now famous line was later dubbed by James Earl Jones. They felt that DP wouldn't be able to keep the secret under wraps.

I for one can't wait for this set! I can't wait to hear the roar of the Falcon in DD 5.1 EX! Who else is hyped?

This trailer has done its job on me, where do I sign?

are only upset with Lucas for refusing to make available the original classic movies they fell in love with.
And they blame him for raping their childhood, and for destroying Star Wars, which is just crazy. They slam him for Hyperspace, even though he doesn't run the site, nor does he get the money Hyperspace members pay. The money goes to pay for running the site because running that site is expensive. They slam him for putting the brakes on Indiana Jones 4, which in my opinion doesn't need to be made anyway. They even find a way to bash him when talking about subjects that don't even apply to him. So I see no reason why Lucas should care about Star Wars fans anymore.

Look, I don't won't to continue to derail the thread with the usual crap that these threads get littered with. So I'll make my point and be done with it. Lucas didn't used to be this way concerning fans. But over the years, Star Wars fans have become so obssessive and selfish to a scary degree. They feel a sense of entitlement, which they were never had to begin with. They grew to feel things should be done their way. That just isn't the case. When Lucas was making the originals, he wasn't doing things the way the fans wanted. He was doing it his way. I see no reason why that should change. Like Jim Ward said, this is not a democracy. It's never been a democracy, not with Lucas or any other filmmaker.

This is why I think Lucas has shyed away from fans. They have become downright frightening with their ferocity. I don't think he hates the fans. I just think he's leery of them, and is going to continue to do things the way he sees fit.

For what it's worth, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Lucas put the originals in the box set to come, which we all know will probably be called the 30th anniversary set. But I'm sure he'll get slammed then as well, perhaps for douple-dipping. I do agree he's wrong for not releasing them now. But it's not my decision to make.

I do find it interesting that the trailer refers to this release as "all three classic films" when, apparently, they're going to be in yet another iteration.

I also find it curious that almost all of the material in the trailer is from the original versions of the films, with very little of the new additions on display. All that I saw for certain was the new full-body Wampa footage from ESB and the tweaked Death Star explosions with the "rings" that became popular with Star Trek VI. You'd think there would be mention of these having even more new footage added in, as everything about the trailer makes it sound like these are the classic versions of the films -- even the new/altered footage shown is only something that hardcore fans would pick up on.

Just saying that if Lucas is as proud of all of his little tweaks to the films (like the CGI Jabba in ANH) that they'd be showing it, instead of borderline passing it off as the originals.

The video on my system didn't look that great: a little jerky, and it looked a bit dark. The jerkiness is something I get a bit of on my system with hi-res QT movies, but a lot of the scenes also looked a bit dark. Anyway, yeah, it did look they CGIed the light sabres up a bit and the explosions did look more detailed.

We can still hope that George changed that "Greedo shoots first" scene and took out that lame Han/Jabba scene, I guess.

I still haven't decided whether or not I'll get this. I don't really have a huge problem with cleaning up effects shots, or going back and making the light sabres better (though I still wish the original versions of the films were made available).

Its damn funny the thread was back on track pretty much until you decide to write paragraphs devoted to bashing fans.

You have said Lucasfilm doesn't run its own site several times. Who runs the Star Wars Web site? Lucasfilm. You implied that it was used only to pay for the Web site. Thats a bunch of baloney. The Web site is about advertising the product - Star Wars is a product - and it costs money to advertise the product. Having those who are willing to pay to view advertising is a bonus.

Wouldnt advertise it? Man they pimped the HELL out of the new changes in the original release of the Special Editions. Why would this time around be any diffrent?

As for spoilers - come on, have you checked out the copy for the pre-sell? Talk about spilling EVERY plotpoint about the trilogy!

Spoiler:

EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE: Eighteen years later, Luke Skywalker, a young farmboy on Tatooine, is thrust into the struggle of the Rebel Alliance when he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has lived for years in seclusion on the desert planet. Obi-Wan begins Luke’s Jedi training as Luke joins him on a daring mission to rescue the beautiful Rebel leader Princess Leia from the clutches of the evil Empire. Although Obi-Wan sacrifices himself in a lightsabre duel with Darth Vader, his former apprentice, Luke proves that the Force is with him by destroying the Empire’s dreaded Death Star.

EPISODE V THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK: Three years later Imperial forces continue to pursue the Rebels. After the Rebellion’s defeat on the ice planet Hoth, Luke journeys to the planet Dagobah to train with Jedi Master Yoda, who has lived in hiding since the fall of the Republic. In an attempt to convert Luke to the dark side, Darth Vader lures young Skywalker into a trap in the Cloud City of Bespin. In the midst of a fierce lightsaber duel with the Sith Lord, Luke faces the startling revelation that the evil Vader is in fact his father, Anakin Skywalker.

EPISODE VI RETURN OF THE JEDI: In the epic conclusion of the saga, the Empire prepares to crush the Rebellion with a more powerful Death Star while the Rebel fleet mounts a massive attack on the space station. Luke Skywalker confronts his father Darth Vader in a final climactic duel before the evil Emperor. In the last second, Vader makes a momentous choice: he destroys the Emperor and saves his son. The Empire is finally defeated, the Sith are destroyed, and Anakin Skywalker is thus redeemed. At long last, freedom is restored to the galaxy.

The smart decision is to hold the changes back.
You get initial publicity on just the announcement.
You will get another round of publicity when the changes become widely known, most likely a month or so before the general release date.

The latest rumor I heard on this (certainly not any official source, mind you, so hopefully I'm wrong) is that Greedo will still shoot first - but with improved CGI for when the shot "misses" Han.

Thanks for the trailer.

I gotta admit tho, I ain't liking the covers for each movie. I don't mind the art so much, but I don't like the fact that it refers to EP4 as "Star Wars".

Oh well. It's the video/sound quality I care for. =)
