Just watched this movie again last night, and holy hell is the transfer on the original release terrible. Great flick though. Stallone does a great job. I can't decide if it would be easier to look good working alongside pros like Keitel, DeNiro, Liota, etc or if it would be more difficult since their skills would amplify his weaknesses. Either way, Stallone does a great job in the movie.

That being said, the only two performances of his that I've ever seen where I felt he did a good job at acting are this and the original Rocky. In both of those films he plays a beat-down, seemingly slow-thinking mook-type character, a persona Stallone seems to display in real life. Isn't that a bit like praising Keanu Reeves for doing a great job playing a bored surfer dude or praising Rosie O'Donnel for doing a spot-on performance as a wise-ass Brooklyn lesbian?

Great movie and a great cast. If I had to pick the best performance in this film I think it would have to go to Ray Liotta.

Nobody does a likeable manic coke-head like Liotta, i.e. Goodfellas

I think we have enough Pro-Stallone folks here.....

My cousin always disses him by imitating his talk and saying he's a nut job..but I always thought the man was a great actor, and when I found he had written the script for Rocky and directed Rocky II my respect for the guy went up more..

I think alot of people don't know that his hanging lip and slured speech is caused by a medical accident, and they think thats his acting...

Anyways...This movie seems to have killer audience...end of case and Stallone has a good fan following....

I think Get Carter could have been better if they had a good director maybe like John Woo or something...the movie was made too dark and depressing kinda way...but Stallone looked mean man with the goutee and all...

Well, I wouldn't say I was "pro-Stallone". I don't think he's a great actor by any means. But he is capable of turning in a great performance when stretched. As he did in "Cop Land" for example. Looking at his entire body of work, you have to admit the good performances are quite limited. Unfortunately.

how does this movie rate as a blind buy. It seems to have a really solid cast, and I'm a fan of a lot Ray Liotta's stuff (especially NARC).

I was very impressed with the video considering several scenes were restored. There was one flaw in the audio that was slightly distracting. It occurs in the scene where Freddy confronts Ray in the bar. One of Rays sentences gets very quiet half way through. Other than that, they did a great job restoring this.

This is just a great great film. I watched it after picking up the CE over the weekend and it's snubbing for any Oscars is plain old shameful. With the cast they had they could have just stuck around and cranked out a great wiseguy movie while they were all in one location.
