I didn't watch the features yet but why would they not include the original ending on the disc? They had a couple deleted scenes, so why not throw that in with them?

To clown who thought this movie did not have a decent cast...what are you on guy...you hardley get talent like this together, except for a Tarantino movie..(and then they are here and there for 5 minutes, but not the whole movie at times)
Like I thought there were'nt that many that liked this movie at first but I guess I'm wrong...as one here said this movie got robbed badly from Oscar night and at the theatre....
I bet those who did not find any substance in this movie, are praying for movie with a cast of:
Vin Diseal,
Van Damme,
Keanue,
Arnold in a movie called " Total Recall of the Matrix Quest in XXX"
Now that's Acting Talent!!

Great disc!
That first deleted scene should have been in the film.
This is a great film with a superb cast. Full marks to everyone involved with the film and the re-release DVD.

It is not that this cast is SO SO great...it is more that this cast works SO SO well with each other with a great screenplay and excellent director in Mangold who also did "Girl, Interrupted" at the helm. He was able to take the mediocre players like Stallone who is nowhere near a credible actor-actor and Rappaport who's 'superkid' portrayal i thought was actually the weakest of the ensemble.
this was an ensemble piece that gelled well on screen and that is all. but to say best in history is way over doing it considering this movie and it's cast didn't show anywhere near the radar come Oscar 97 time!

I think he's a good actor, just needs a good director and story line just like any other actor,,look at DeNiro in Show time what a waste.
We're not saying this is the best ever movie..we're just saying it deserved attention and yes maybe an oscar, that does not make it the Top 10 films of all time.

True, some of the movies were horrible, but they found an audience. The only true blunders from his record from a return standpoint were Judge Dread, Get Carter, Daylight, and Eye See You (may have missed one or two). I would take that percentage any day for a career with as many hits as he had. Granted some of the others are not very good or did not age well, but they found an audience.

Man, I can' t believe you all are overlooking the scene-stealing performance of Peter Berg.
This guy needs to get out of the director chair and star in big budget flicks!
Lord, I miss performances like his in the Great White Hype.

I understand what you are saying, but to a 13 year old, Demolition Man is incredible. Should we hate on him for taking those roles? I would have done it for 20 mil a pop. Did it hurt his credibility so he does not get roles like Cop Land or even Shade more often, of course. We are both on the same page, just looking at it differently. Actually though, Stallone has proven without a doubt he is a good actor. It cannot be argued. He has an Academy Award and has excelled in different roles. Sandler, like Stallone at some points in his career, is finding a market to make himself rich. Some would argue he is a good actor based on Punch Drunk. I think he would need to crank out a few more dramas before he reaches that level. Take care!

I do not think Sandler can make it, because I think his range is not that high. Punch was a perfect vehicle for him and I just do not see that coming along very often for him. Look at Jim Carrey. I think he is a good actor and has received praise but it looks as though he has not found a good vehicle until Eternal (I have not seen it yet though). It just varies. But, I think Stallone would have done everything the same. A bank account will overwhelm statues and credibility everyday. Later!

I think Carrey demonstrated his bona fides
So it was OK for him to do that but USA TV almost came to a standstill over Janet Jackson's nipple?
Stallone can act (as seen in 1-2 films) but generally he's a terrible actor who makes even more terrible choices in the garbage he's been in.
DeNiro has made terible choices too, but he's made vastly more better choices. Both are totally different actors though to be fair.

Was waiting for an anamorphic release of this for ages as I missed the boat with getting the R4 Australia copy before it went OOP. Nice to have a director's cut, but if I'd known they were gonna remove the ending from the original and not have it as a deleted scene, I would've kept my R2 UK copy just for reference. Ah well.
Awesome film. More people should be forced to see this.

Go back to the mid 70's when there was only one Rocky movie and it was fresh and new and that was a performance worth an Oscar. When Stallone has a great part he has the ability to nail it. That he got caught up in the box office action hero genre is sad, but hey, I'm sure the bank account soothed what aching he had for more serious roles. What's sad is that he wound back around to the meaty parts at a time when he is kind of like Travolta was just before he made a 'comeback' of sorts with Pulp Fiction. Stallone may never have a career re-defining role of that nature.....well, the one in Cop Land was just that part but went soooo unnoticed at the time. As for Carrey and Sandler......guys, can't you just stick to comedy where you're both seen as present day kings of the hill? I have no desire to see either of them in dramatic roles. Yeah, both did okay in the ones mentioned.....and much better in their comedy elements.
