That "bloody" cover art is the same as the original theatrical poster.

See, they can't win.

If they make new art for the DVDs, people complain.

If they use the original poster key art - people complain.

I would prefer they ALWAYS use the key art from the original theatrical one-sheet.

This is one of the top 5 films of all time in my opinion, so it's no surprise I am extremely happy to hear this news. I'll definitely be getting that Scorsese set, as I don't own any of those films already (though I would get it even if I did)...

All five films will have an MSRP of $19.99, but the boxed set is only $59.99, meaning that it should be available for around $40 retail. That's incredible for these five films.

Can anyone find the boxed set for pre-order anywhere? I can't find it, but I don't know its official name - searching for "Scorsese" hasn't turned up anything, though.

Jough: Here you go...

And someone else started a STL request but I started a STL thread for this set...

Awesome price...

Matter of fact, if you get it thru STL it comes out to $7.55 per DVD.

Ah, thanks. It's amazing that that collection doesn't come up after a search for "Scorsese."

Yeah, with STL it would be around $38. I'd imagine a $39.99 price from Best Buy and CC that week.

First the low priced Cary Grant collection, now this. I'm loving these new low prices on movie boxed sets.

Awesome, I've been waiting for this to be reannounced since they canceled the release a couple of years ago. I guess I'm still the only person excited about Who's That Knocking At My Door? Great NYC movie, Scorsese's trademark feel from the very first scene, with an unbelievably young Harvey Keitel.

Hey Jough,
CD universe has some artwork up and details, don't know how solid it is but here's the link
http://www.cduniverse.com/productinf...cart=190511600

I too can't wait for this and I think I'll buy the box even though I've only seen 3 of the movies!

Yeah, I got some love shared from Amazon so I'll probably get it from them.

It just looks like a great set. Kudos to Warner for finally pulling it all together.

I'm definitely getting the coming Goodfelllas edition, but I'm not sure if I want the whole Scorsese set or just Goodfellas. I'm not familiar with the other films in the Scorsese set at all, any one care to give some advice?

I'm in the same boat. I haven't seen any of the other movies in the set. I went ahead and bought it, though. His commentary on Gangs was great, I figured the extra money was worth it just for the commentaries on the other movies.

I would definitely try to check out some other Scorsese films before dropping for the set. If you only know him for Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Casino, Cape Fear, he does more than violent crime flicks.

Who's That Knocking At My Door? and Mean Streets are great, but they are "rough around the edges" filmmaking. They're character studies of Italian-American toughs in New York City and are largely plotless. If you can get into the characters and the atmosphere you'll love them, but if you don't you're going to tune out pretty quickly - I've seen it happen! Although it wasn't his first film, Robert DeNiro's role in Mean Streets garnered him a lot of attention as an up-and-coming actor.

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore is a domestic drama star vehicle for Ellen Burstyn - she won a Best Oscar for her performance. It's well done but 180 degrees from Goodfellas. The long-running 70s sitcom Alice was actually based on this movie.

After Hours is a black comedy, similar to Scorsese's King of Comedy. Some people love it for its quirkiness, others (like myself) think it's played a little too broad (and this from someone who loves The King of Comedy).

Hope that helps...

This is one great box set. I'm looking forward to all the films, and in an odd way, the one I want to rewatch the most is Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore , it's been some time since I've seen it. It was the best use of my cash in quite a while.

Thanks for the information guys, I think I'll pick the boxset up, it's a lot of Scorsese's films at a reasonable price and it doesn't hurt to try out new genres of movies. Thanks again!

Nice boxset, makes double dipping for goodfellas less painful

Does anyone know if they are released in a box or just simply packaged together ?

I think they'll come in a box. I'm basing this on the recent Police Academy Box and the fact that the Noir Collection has cover art of its own.

Speaking of packaging, anybody notice that CDUniverse lists Goodfellas in a double keepcase and the rest in snappers? That's going to be one weird looking boxset...

Can't wait for Goodfellas SE but I don't think I'll be purchasing the rest.

All the site's I've checked list the Scorsese Collection as a 5-disk set. As the set includes 5 movies and Goodfellas is a 2-disk set, shouldn't it be a 6-disk set?

Is the set missing something?

No, You've missed nothing. They just call it a 5-disc set, even though there are technically 6 in there. 'Disc' sounds better than 'movie' or 'title,' I suppose.

That box looks a whole lot better than the original box art. Very cool.

Yeah, that's about perfect box art. Nicely done.

I'm telling you, if these things have inserts we'll be praising Warner all up and down the internet. They've gone from being the worst at packaging (cf. snappers) to one of the best in just a few months.

Even without Leiberfarb, they're a great DVD company.
