I'm still waiting for mine to Ship from DDD. I pre-ordered it, and apparently demand was so high that it went into backorder... they told me it would ship on the 6th... then the 10th... now the 20th... It's getting kind of annoying.

Got mine from Amazon yesterday, and the Dracula second disk was loose. There are two or three minor scratches on it.. so I guess I'll see if it works fine. If it does, much as I'd like it to be scratch free, I think I'll skip the hassle of returning it in hopes of better.

I ordered on April 26th, and I believe it said that it wouldn't ship until like May 10th, and I used the free shipping. So I guess it was pretty close to what they were saying in the long run. Hopefully you'll get yours without any floaters!

There was a story in Video Business this week about Universal being unprepared for the demand for this title and that they were three weeks behind in producing new sets.

They've been "rationing" the sets to various retailers since release week, and Amazon.com has a three week wait for the title.

I must have lucked out. My Frankenstein box set was tight as a drum, all discs playable.

I received my set from Amazon on Friday. The 2nd disc of Frankenstein was also loose and had scratched. I sent it back. I liked the heads, but I wish the second discs weren't flippers. Although, for 50.00 it seems like a pretty good deal.

I wonder if this will end up like the Scarface set? In that they make to many and stores have to sell them cheap or offer a rebate to sell them.

Well, I think they didn't make *enough* of the Monster Legacy set *because* they made too many of the Schindler's List and Scarface sets and wound up having to discount them just to get rid of them.

In this case, they'll just manufacture to demand.

add my collection to the long list of folks hit by the improper packaging. 4 out of 6 discs were loose and scratched badly. Back to Amazon they go, looks like I'll have to buy it local to do the box-shake trick.

For what it's worth, I sent a message to Universal:

I exchanged my defective set at BestBuy, and all 3 (yes, only 3) of the sets they had left had no "shaking" sounds. Maybe the 2nd batch had better quality control?

Anyway, all discs are perfect.

i picked up my set a week later with a raincheck at Best Buy. they only had one set on the shelf and i grabbed it and shook it. it was too noisy in the store to hear anything so i took my chance and took it home. to my surprise, everything was secure with no floaters. in fact, the discs were locked in pretty tight. i guess i got lucky.

Dropped by BB with wifey yesterday afternoon to scoop up some of those 2-for-$15 '80s titles and to my surprise, they had a ton of the Monster Legacy sets. I grabbed one after doing the shake test and didn't really hear anything. The guy forgot to ring it up with the rest of the DVDs, so I had to end up using my CC since my debit card wouldn't allow two transactions so close to each (I think). Anyway, checked it out later that night and only one Dracula disc was a floater and it had some mild scratching. I can live with this as long as the play isn't affected.

Maybe I should stop by Best Buy... maybe they got another shipment.
upon checking for damage...I found a few problems with that set. I let Al know pronto.

now I'm having a problem with the Hammer collection. my Dracula Has Risen from the Grave plays on only 1 of 5 players I've tested.

btw...good job, Al.

Yeah, right after I posted I thought maybe there were some floaters so I deleted my post. Man, you're quick

This situation over this highly anticipated release has been so disappointed. The one set I found at a B&M had floaters and ordering online seems to be a crapshoot with the odds stacked against getting non-floaters.

It's all so sad....

Interesting how this thread ended up being about floaters in the cases.....didn't think it would have such a long life!!! But I'm happy to report that I finally got an exchange for my discs - and wouldn't you know it.....those discs all work fine on the players I tried them on (unlike the first set) But my Panasonic is definitely on the way to the DVD player graveyard.....its acting up.

Well, decided to try Best Buy. This time I went to their website, selected the set and clicked on "In Store Pickup" to see which stores had it in stock. Out of the 3 stores in my area, only 1 had it. So, I boogied on down and they had 6 sitting there. First one I picked up had no floaters!

[singing]"Ah, sweet mystery of life at last I have found youuuuuu."[/singing]

When I got to my car, I opened up the box to make sure all discs were secure. Yes! My Wolfman set even had 2 inserts So, I paid a little more than I wanted to but no hassels with floaters.

Got mine from DVDPlanet.com and had one floater.

Mailed it off with a return postage card from them. Should be getting it soon. I'll have to check tonite when I get home.

Skull, I also had problems with skipping and freezing in the jail sequence of son of dracula. The disc was a floater and I thought it must of been scuffed until you said you had the same problem. I've tried it in 3 different players. Hate to have to return it to Amazon.

I posted earlier about the Monster Legacy Collection that I received from Amazon.com. All of the discs were tight in their hubs, but Disc 2 in Frankenstein, Dracula and The Wolf Man were all scratched & scuffed up on side 1. I emailed Amazon.com about this and they sent me a return label right away so I could send the damaged set back. 3

I received it today and guess what... I still didn't get a pristine set! Once again, all the discs were tight in their hubs, but this time Disc 2/Side 1 of the Dracula set is all scratched up. Universal really screwed this up! I just got off the phone with Amazon. They're sending me another return label so I can get a refund. I guess if I want this set I'll have to go get it in person. But... Even shaking the box you can't be sure that all of the discs are perfect. The two sets that I've received haven't had any loose discs, and there have still been scratched up discs.

I really like the packagING, it just wasn't packagED well.
Exactly! The packaging looks great and so does what is on the discs (what I have seen, I mean). I just wish Universal would be more careful when packaging such a cool set as this. I think I'm going to send a message to Universal about this, too. Man, this sucks...

I checked out pretty much everything on the Dracula disc that was loose upon arrival and thankfully, everything played fine. I forgot what a great film the original Dracula was (haven't seen it in full in forever). It's so much better watching now and having more appreciation for little things like atmosphere.
