Get both of em if you want the Ultimate T2 package...the UE has is basically a film-school on disc and the EE has the excellent commentary and superior picture and sound...

The price of the Ultimate Edition does not seem to be climbing much on eBay (yet). You can get them pretty cheap.

I tried to guilt Best Buy into giving me the Extreme DVD for $10, since I asked about the price and no one mentioned the 2 for $20 deal. That didn't work, so I just returned it for a refund.

As I left I saw one of those aisle islands and saw T2 there, too - in the metal case! All the ones on the DVD shelves were cardboard, but they DID have the metal cased ones, too. Again, I had asked, and no one mentioned it.

I might get it off DD-DVD. Not sure if I'm that interested.

Dear lord, why? That version of the movie was thrown in as a gag. It isn't meant to be taken seriously.

The "Extreme" edition has the theatrical version and the "Director's Cut" version...it doesnt include the hidden version from the Ultimate collection.
It does, however, have all of the scenes from that third version accessible directly while watching the feature.

I forget, off-hand, what the disc's equivalent of "Find the White Rabbit" is, but there's something that pops on screen, while watching, and if you click that during the final scene, you'll see the alternate ending. It's not seamless, though, there's a definite delay.

Many of the features which were on the old Ultimate edition are available in this way on the Extreme, it's just not good for navigation.

Personally, I think you need both. The Ultimate has amazing extras, including a commentary track which includes Arnold (it's cobbled together from interviews, though, not scene specific); the Extreme is great, though, because Cameron gives a great commentary and because the movie looks amazing. The extras are kinda crap, although I, for one, dug seeing Peter Jackson gush about 'T2'.

I have both, since I got a really good price on the EE. The picture is better on the EE, but I like the DTS track on the UE. Quagmire.

I like the DD on either the UE or the EE more than the DTS on the UE...the DTS just didnt have much power to it..

The cut I'm referring to is the one with the scene in the shed where they remove the chip from his head and the ending is also changed. I haven't watched it in a while so I could be confusing the 3 versions. What is not to be taken seriously? To me none of them are the directors intent unless he releases it to theaters that way or labels it a directors cut, but of the 3 versions I seemed to like that one best.

The EE is one of the better upgrades you can make. The video quality is far above the UE; the transfer is just about reference quality. I too am in the camp that thinks the DD 5.1 tracks sounds better than the DTS track. It seems to have better bass; clarity/highs are about equal.

As far extras, the UE's are better. However, that is never a deciding factor for me.

That's a bit of an overstatement. It certainly wasn't meant as a gag, just an unauthorized cut. Cameron did, after all, film that ending with the intent of using it at one point.

Yeah, you have to install the InterActual Player in order to play it. I've heard the quality is amazing, but I can't tell because it is amazingly choppy.
