I'd like to devolve this thread once more by diving into the comments of the BB employee.
Somone needs to teach that kid the way business works. I wish I knew where you worked - I'd come there purposely and ask you questions (which you wouldn't be able to answer) in the hopes that you would punch me in the face, as you threatened. Man, that would so nice.
You may not know how business works, but you'd learn real quick how the law does.
Employees do 2 things: they serve their employers, and they serve their customers. Belligerent customers will always be around, but isn't it better to take the high road and be respectful to them, and "kill 'em with kindness"? Spitting in food or tampering with merchandise is the coward's way out.
Now, back to this disc ----- Haven't gotten it yet, but despite some of the slams at it, I'll still be buying it. I only consider 3 things when buying a DVD: video quality, sound quality, extras (assuming I like the film). The other 2 films haven't disappointed me on any of those, so I can't imagine the last one will.....(the movie itself can do that
)

Finally got to watch this last night. Was very impressed with the video and sound quality.
I liked the movie a lot as well. I didn't catch it in theaters. I don't see why it got so many negative reviews. It was a good deal better than reloaded IMO, and a decent wrap up to the trilogy.

That's a very common problem on DVD unfortunately. I've been hoping HD-DVD/Blu-ray or whatever brings with it a new sound format that's capable of serious dynamic range. Guns should be so loud in comparison to voices that they should scare the shit out of you when you're not expecting it. You'd have to have a hell of a sound system but, I'm up for spending more cash on gear if it means I could finally get that type of experience.
There are some DVD's out there that make a good effort. Road to Perdition when Tom Hanks busts out with the Tommy Gun is the best example I can think of off the top of my head (any other suggestions?). The vast majority of the DVD's I have do a very poor job at this though.
DTS and DD in it's current form is capable of better when the sound engineers make an effort. Revolutions is on the bad side in this regard though, yeah. The bass is still pretty crazy in a few spots, however. My house makes some structural sounds in those spots that I hadn't heard before.

Does everyone else's DVD exhibit this? Just wondering, as it's a unique sound...

That said, I hate where they chose to put the layer switch.

You guys are being too hard on the mix. It's actually very good. Sure it was mastered lower than we're used to. I had to listen to it near reference when I usually watch my DVDs at 10dB bellow reference. But it was actually very good. Sure, the guns weren't much louder than the dialogue (like the excellent sounding gunfire in Open Range) but that was obviously a consious decision. Had the dynamic range of gunfire vs. dialogue been geared more to a realistic level, it would have actually been annoying to listen too (and downright painful) rather than fun or exciting. It'd be like people that get that new subwoofer and set it to the max so everything rubles including peoples voices. After a while, that really gets on your nerves. Now imagine this 17 minute sequence with the dialogue sounding clear but the guns blaring as they would in real life. Hello hearing aid.
As far as the fight sounds, I didn't much like the fight sounds in the first film. Sounded too much like a big wet ham smacking an out of tune bongo. They went for a more real sounding punch effect in the sequels. Too light for some I'm sure but they punched it up a bit in Revolutions to find a happy middle.
As for the video, it's very good but there's a huge amount of ringing in the scenes that take place in Mobil Ave. That's very unfortunate. But the rest looks good and the darker photography is very well transfered. Gives me something to look forward to as far as a remastered version of The Matrix is concerned.

how loud do you guys watch it at? on my system (a sony htib) i watch it about a volume level of 30
oh and for those saying that we're being too hard on the mix, that 17 min of dialogue at this level and the gun fire would make us deaf, have you heard the spr dts dvd? thats how this should sound.

Yeah, the mix is VERY quiet for effects and dialogue, but the music is LOUD.
It's not mixed very well at all. Without the LFE track, there's no presence whatsoever.
Very disappointing.

Of course, I'm one of those freaks that would like it to be borderline real life levels.

I saw one a while back that had a single gun shot in it that was unexpected and way louder than everything else in the entire movie (the way it should be). Made me jump. Can't remember what it was though. Something I got from Netflix.

How about the beginning of Pulp Fiction, when Pumpkin and Honey Bunny are in the diner. I always crank up the sound to hear the dialogue, and the sound of the gun suddenly slamming on the table (let alone being fired) is always so jarring and loud. Great sound design for such a low budget film.

Yeah, I've tried that screensaver before, but it seems poorly made. It doesn't look anywhere near what you see in the movies. As far as the desktops, I downloaded all the 1024x768 to my hd because I'm such a nerd, even though the only ones I've used are the Reloaded characters desktops on white background.
Thanks anyways.

I've had the first one for years and I think it's the coolest matrix screen saver around (if you disable the title screen)

Just got it this morning at Wal-Mart for $15.20. They still had a lot of them in stock, both WS and FS. Of course I got the WS version.
Just wish that they made it easier to tell from a distance what aspect ratio was on each version. Either different color borders or different cover art for each. You have to look closely to make sure which version you just picked up.
Just watched it and it was good, but not great.
Can anyone explain the whole "TrainMan" character to me. It just seemed like a needless character added to the film.
And not giving anything away, but who thinks the ending let it open for further sequels?

The bonus CD-ROM is literally a one-time view. You don't get anything special out of it whatsoever. The extra DVD BB packaged with the Reloaded DVD was significantly better (even tho that was nothing to scream at either.)
