...and not just any girl.

A girl who works for Criterion.

I guess it's true what they say ... warn your daughters guys, men are only after one thing!

Asking out the chick sounds good too.. maybe after that lil' introduction..
And just how long do you think he can carry on the traveler from the future act while he's dating her and scamming DVDs?

I'd say you should try to get a pity-DVD.

Got to agree with this!!

I'm curious to know as to how their office looked...i can't really imagine a sterile and drab looking working environment for them...i sort of picture interior decoration along the lines of the Guggenheim or the Louvre?..but then again i have a fairly active imagination

well, I decided to stop by again. I was nervous at first ("what if she or someone else calls security?") but then i got some balls using some reverse logic ("they OWE me a dvd" ). all that and then the office was closed! Kinda weird, it was only a little after 3pm. I guess since this is kind of a satellite office maybe its just part-time. Oh well. If I can squeeze in time I'll try again tomorrow. Outside I noticed a few parking spots reserved for Janus Films.

richdb: if a few framed posters (grand illusion, third man) of criterion covers sounds like the louvre, then it wasn't sterile and drab. the third man poster was some kind of alternate though, not the dvd cover, so maybe you would've found it sufficiently artsy.

This is probably their daily required movie watching time slot. Man, I'd hate to have a job like that.

The type of shock is probably similar to when I was describing my addiction to buying CC DVDs to my film professor here and he informed me that he did the commentary on Tokyo Story. Needless to say I immediately began worshipping him. After a bit more discussion he said he would talk to his "contact" there and see if he could get me a copy of The Killer. If that actually happens I will worship him, heh. He said after he did commentary they just opened a cabinet and there were tons of CCs (even of Salo) and they told him to take what he wanted. He said he didn't know what was OOP and didn't want ot look like a beggar so only snagged a few random ones. Damn!

About that address...

Any chance you could give me a street address?
Yeah, same here, but I'm not in New Hampshire, but in sunny Hollywood. Which rules out jobs at Kino and Anchor Bay, so I'm hoping there's something at one of the two Criterion offices you mentioned.

Please post (or e-mail me, [email protected]),

Thanks,

CS

No, we're not nerds. It just so happens that Criterion is a heavyweight when it comes to good film to dvd presentation. What's wrong with you and your thread crapping?

Yes, to me all these drooling replies because someone went into a business office is ridiculous, silly, sad and unequivocally nerdy. Like a train wreck, I couldn't stop reading most of the replies, so I'm probably just as much of a nerd as anyone, but it sure seems like some of you should have other things in your life besides DVDs.

But these aren't just any DVDs. These are the creme-de-la-creme! Its not like the guy did a commentary for Universal and they popped out a cabinet and said take a few dvds and the guy said "Uh, no thanks"

...says the guy posting on an Internet forum about DVDs.

You're entitled to your opinion. But don't post in a thread just to bag on it and everyone posting in it.

talemyn the Grand Illusion looks right, but the Third Man was different... I remember the title being written along the lower right, not lower left (although it was written "3rd" Man).

basiamille I don't feel comfortable giving it out. Its not like the building had a big sign that said "Criterion" on it, I don't think they're looking for it to be advertised or given out. That said, some clever Google searching might help you..

I've always thought that the Criterion covers would make really cool posters, or mini-posters around 11x17 or something. There would be SO many I would buy if that were true. Imagine a Fear and Loathing cover poster......

Yes, I already admitted I was a nerd in the very post you quoted from, so your analogy of my being a hypocrite falls flat. Or are you saying that ANYONE who posts on these boards is indeed a NERD? However, there are degrees to being a nerd, where a hobby fills your life to inordinate proportions, and I feel that people on this thread proved that, even exceeding my lowly stature in life. But it was on topic and relevant for someone to confront them about it, though I agree I could have done it in a more polite manner. I got caught up in an instantanteous reaction instead of calmly proposing the question: Why would anyone with a life outside of their hobby ever get this worked up over something so trivial and silly?

Incidentally, what is that statement in HUGE BOLD letters doing if not posting in a thread just to bag on me?
