I ended up picking the disk up anyway yesterday. I watched to theatrical cut of the flim and I have to agree that I like the director's cut ending much more.

Yeah, I figured he'd gotten it from Netflix as well. Just playing around. Kinda silly that Netflix puts a label on a two-sided disc, especially for those who never saw this in theatres. I may be one of the only people who prefers the original ending, and I watched the director's cut first, then flipped it to check out the theatrical ending. For me, sometimes the director's cut style of ending works. Sometimes it doesn't. It didn't, IMO.

So they put a version of each side of the disc instead of using seamless branching? Is it a single layer, double-sided disc? I hope not. It seems like to good looking a movie to try to squeeze it into 4+G (and still include DTS tracks).

Never mind, just read the review at DVDfile.com:
"...Despite being so chock full of material, as is de rigueur for a New LIne Infinifilm title, The Butterfly Effect looks great. Presented here in two versions - the 113-minute theatrical version and a 119-minute Director's Cut (both are R-rated) - the theatrical version gets the single-layer side of this DVD-14, while the Director's Cut gets more room to breathe with the dual-layer flip. However, the latter also sports a DTS track, commentary and the Infinifilm gizmos, so the bit rates for both transfers are about the same. Regardless, the quality remains high."

I have a question for anybody who owns or rented this movie.
I bought the DVD today and I noticed something. My menus look nothing like they are suppose to. On the back of the DVD case, it has a picture of the menu and it looks like a journal. I also saw these screens on various websites. Also on the back of the case it says the menus are animated, and mine are not.
The theatrical side's menu is just a grey screen with squares on the side like a piece of film and it has the title of the movie at the top, that's it. The director's cut side just as a picture of a TV with a static noise in the background, but no animation.
Did the menus change at the last minute or something? Cause my DVD's menus look nothing like the back of the case's menu shots look like, and the shots that I saw on the web. Strange...
Also, I noticed that people and reviewers saying that this movie has great picture quality, but it doesn't look too great on mine. I haven't watched the DC version yet so I dunno if things are improved there, but this is very strange.

Yeah I feel pretty stupid now.
I kinda thought maybe there was different menus but each time I put the DVD in I kept getting the same one. Ended up being a coincidence. I put it in for a third time and I got one with a house with butterflys at the side and screaming. I feel relieved.

Well, I guess that I didn't have much of a choice anyway. Some dumb jackass ruined the theatrical side of the DVD, by spilling something, along with adding scratches and fingerprints. I watched the DC (which also had problems with the DVD, but nothing too major), and when I flipped it over to watch the theatrical ending, I kept getting a disk error. BASTARDS!
Regardless, I liked it. I also watched Secret Window tonight, and thought that BE was far superior.

Spoiler:
Oh and there's no need to flip the disk to watch the theatrical ending. From the director's cut side, just jump to the Infinifilm scene selections (not the regular scene selections). Go to the final scene. The fact track will pop up saying "Press select/enter to watch theatrical ending"

OK, I just rented this for tonight, so which version should I watch? Directors or Theatrical?
