From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
There is no ad for the EE yet. They haven't even put out a press release.
However, Video Business reported that the theatrical version is due out in May, and the EE in September (technically the beginning of "Holiday 2004") - hopefully it won't come out the same day as Star Wars, since it'll get lost in the shuffle if it does.

This should be the first purchase towards the last double-dip I will ever take (hopefully).

Ah, that must've been really early.
They've recently announced a September release for the EE.
I wonder what the source of that image is - it hasn't shown up in any of the video store business magazines.

And great news for y'all anticipating the box set but who have already bought all the DVDs available:

New Line is also beginning work on a trilogy box set, which the studio hopes to release in two to three years for those who prefer to buy all the films at once; however, it is unlikely the set will include any new material.
"What we're going to do with both theatrical and extended versions when we come out with Return of the King is provide a sleeve that will fit all three versions in there to be able to bind it altogether…but there won't be any added-value material [in the trilogy box set]," says Lasorsa. "We don't want to create any buyer's remorse."

Thedigitalbits has also updated with a bit about an LOTR boxset, basically they would want to make it worth the customers money, and if so, would be several years off.
Good to here, let's hope they allow us to buy the empty boxes that they are making to hold the three releases.

Why does every single LOTR thread end up a....
"I'll just get the EE"
"I'll get both"
"I'll wait for the mega box set on super-duper-uber-XDTV that comes out in 2020"
...waste of space?
Doesn't anyone get tired of repeating this cr@p?
