Quantum Leap on June 8th!

TVShowsOnDVD is reporting Quantum Leap Season 1 will be released on June 8th!!

One of my favorite shows is FINALLY coming to DVD...

:D:D:D

Snowmaker 02-17-04 08:00 AM

2 dual-sided DVDs? Sounds like they don't want to put much effort and/or money into the packaging.

....but they don't mind charging $59.95 for a 2-disc set.

There are only 9 episodes. So as far as quality it should be pretty good. You have 4 sides to spread out those 9 episodes plus extras.

My guess would be Disc1, side A you have the 90 minute premier "Genesis." Then you have 1B and 2A each with 4 episodes, then 2B for extras.

I am wincing at the price though. That is HBO pricing there. Way to high. That is almost $7 an episode!

mdc3000 02-17-04 08:26 AM

Hopefully that MSRP will lower a bit as the date gets closer.... but I am really looking forward to seeing Leap on disc.... woo hoo!

It's actually due to be released June 8th, not the 18th..

Oops. My bad. Thanks, Rob. I edited my original post...perhaps one of the mods would be so kind as to edit my Thread Title.

Thanks!

Thank the good lord.
FINALLY!

Good stuff!

Looking forward to this one too!

Regurgitator 02-17-04 09:45 AM

OH BOY!!

Can't wait for this to be released! :)

movielib 02-17-04 09:46 AM

It would be nicer to have one-sided discs and the price is quite high but at least they are starting.

Maybe the specs and price will be revised before release if they listen to public opinion.

RaynMan2019 02-17-04 09:57 AM

I must buy! When, NOW! Or at least when I can reserve it...

ruk 02-17-04 10:21 AM

want it bad but way too expensive

Oh boo hoo. You'll be able to find this on-line (and in release week) for 35-40 bucks. Full retail price is for suckers.

basaro 02-17-04 11:01 AM

Wahoo!

This just made my day. Now I can scrap my project of transferring my VCR tapes to DVD. I guess I'll just do that for the Dungeons & Dragons animated show now. I don't think we'll be seeing that on DVD ever.

I'll wait until release day or a sale price before I pay full retail for this, but I will be getting it at some point.
Now I wonder if they already have plans to release all the episodes, or if they are using this release as a pilot for the rest of the series. It would be a shame if they didn't release the rest of them, although I'm sure it will sell well based on current demand. I just hope they release these faster than the simpsons. :)

What - you mean like this DVD?

Nope. . . you'll never see that show on DVD. :)

Well sure, no one will pay $60. But one can get 22 episodes of Buffy for $35-$40.

They also come with artwork on the disc and... an insert. :)

Oh well, they know that many will buy it anyway and I will.

tripps 02-17-04 12:05 PM

Yay!

Except for the price. And the fact that this is Universal we're talking about. I'm looking forward to fast-forwarding through 6 minutes of trailers before each episode.

But, yay!

Holy crapola! Twice in one day :)

That's a Region 2 release, I wonder if it'll see a R1 release, or I'll just have to buy a region free player one of these days.

Thanks for the info! Now i can just toss out all my old vids. :D

Doughboy 02-17-04 12:32 PM

At 60 bucks, they better have every song from the original broadcasts intact and Universal better not release this with any sort of glitches(that includes forced trailers!!!).

vivarey 02-17-04 01:27 PM

Can't wait! I would pay just about anything for this set, although I wish it was 4 single-sided discs w/disc art instead. A bit more classy, IMO. I hope they don't skimp on the extras. I sent a long list of ideas to Ms. Pratt through the fansite, as did other fans, so I hope they took those suggestions into account. Also, I think the popularity of this release will kick-start those QL spinoffs/movies that are rumored.

QuikSilver 02-17-04 02:37 PM

Great news!!

Hey, no problem. Glad to be of service.

(And if it makes you feel better, these are the same guys releasing the He-Man discs as of late. And They've done a bang up job with that 20 year old franchise. I expect that D&D will get the similar treatment).

Now back to your regularly scheduled QL drooling. . . .

Max Bottomtime 02-17-04 08:34 PM

Amazon has it listed for $41.99 and shows it as three discs.

ScottyWH 02-17-04 09:24 PM

WOOOHOOOO!!!!!! :D:D:D:D

DEFINITELY worth $60!

Numes 02-18-04 07:24 AM

Please Please Please have good extras. I've been waiting for this too long for it to be barebones.

Seeker 02-18-04 01:49 PM

Great news, terrible price.

I'm worried this will end up being like Mary Tyler Moore.

LasVegasMichael 02-18-04 10:06 PM

We have COVER ART!

From www.tvshowsondvd.com

Not terribly exicting, but it will do!

The Valeyard 02-18-04 11:04 PM

I think that's a pretty snazzy cover!

Kolchak 02-18-04 11:08 PM

Since it's only 9 episodes for 41$,how much are we gonna have to pay for 22 episodes for the next 3 seasons bout' 85-90$? Aren't Universal following the same pattern as Battlestar Galactica with the 2 sided flipper disks? Offtopic here but why is the limited edition of Battlestar Galactica $89.99 and the new edition sans the head just the normal box $107.98 on amazon and around the same price on other sites? Man Universal are really overpricing these tv shows!! What other shows has Universal released so far are what are the average prices they go for a complete season?

Thanks

Kolchak

Scalemail Ted 02-19-04 04:14 AM

Is this the first DVD set to come into fruitation from Universal's list and will it be followed by the rest???

i.e.

Quantum Leap
Sliders
Rockford Files
Magnum PI
etc

ENDContra 02-19-04 05:40 AM

Ive watched the majority of episodes of Quantum Leap, and I never recall the font for "Quantum Leap" ever looking like that. I would have preferred the original font, black background and a smaller blue whatever you call it....but yeah I know that big studio releases arent going to be without someones head.

Alvis 02-19-04 07:27 AM

Finally! I guess that I am one of those that will take whatever I can get. There are still a few eps I never caught so I am stoked for this. Hopefully most places will have have it priced well below the MSRP. I hope there won't be much of a delay between seasons. How many seasons?

I've been spoiled by other DVD releases, but you're right, I should just be happy that this is coming out on DVD and take what I can get.

The price is still pretty ridiculous, though. Damned Universal!

There were five seasons.

ScottyWH 02-19-04 09:05 AM

Seriously, this is one of those must haves that I couldn't freakin care less how much they price it at... IT WILL BE MINE! :D

Michael Corvin 02-19-04 10:03 AM

I will buy regardless of price as well. But I'm with Kolchak. $60 for 9 eps. Roughly $7 an ep. So for a full season that works out to about: $160. Regardless of paying MSRP, that is at least $70 overpriced.

Oh, that is the same font it just seems to have a wave added to it.
