I'm pretty sure this is open-matte, as I've never noticed any panning and/or scanning on the TV versions.
I wonder how many of you would choose open-matte over widescreen if you could only see Joyce Hyser's breasts in the fullscreen version.

Although I don't really like it not being 16x9 I'm still picking this one up. I'm almost positive it's open-matte. However, if it was pan & scam I'd be passing.
Reminds me of the "Can't Buy Me Love" fiasco...what's up with the studios giving the great 80's movies sh#t treatment?

It sucks because there are a lot of movies that don't get proper treatment. I am still waiting for a lot myself.

I wouldn't have a problem with it being open matte, but for $24.99, with no extras, I'll wait and get it used or in the Wal Mart bin as others mentioned.

Hint: open-matte does not equal pan & scan.

Times Up.
This isn't an auteur theory film here folks. We aren't talking great filmmaking. It is JUST ONE OF THE GUYS.

Besides, wasn't there a ton of people that had no problems zooming in on tv programming saying OAR was only important for movies. If those people didn't have a problem altering that to fit their display why the backlash for this?
Anyway, I only had marginally interest in this where I might have picked it up once it reached the bargain price point but now I won't bother.

I like this movie a lot, and was saddened when I saw that it was only coming out in fullscreen. I probably won't buy this movie unless its price falls shortly after release. If this was in widescreen I would pick it up on release day.

This release has "eventual price reduction" written all over it.
$25 for a bare-bones DVD that isn't in OAR? This will be $10 by the holidays...
What a bunch of idiots. Putting it in the correct (likely 1.85:1) ratio and having a $19.99 retail price would have increased sales.

Swamp Thing included both matted & unmatted transfers,so your jab at them is worthless
Does anyone know Columbias address to complain to?? I would just like to let them know, that not releasing anything in OAR will mean I will not buy it period. If enough people send the same message, maybe the bastards would snap out of it & at least include both versions on the same disc?

"I don't buy into the whole "the only way to get the message is to NOT buy fullscreen" arguement. Companies will continue to spit out fullscreen of catalog titles just to save money, not buying it because it is in fullscreen only will not pass along that message. The only message sent will be "the movie must not be good", which means they will never release it in any other form anyway."
