FYE and Suncoast do have awful prices, but sometimes they have great deals, Election for $9.99 was my most recent. I usually can find the more obscure releases there, the Best Buys and Circuit Citys around me suck. Unless you want some huge release they don't get them in. Hell, neither place had the Commitments re-release and it was advertised in Best Buy's ad. Plus Suncoast always has coupons, a lot of times $5 ones, so stuff i'd pay $15 for online is $20 there, and I get the instant gradification of having it right when I want.

Plus, try to find a Murderdolls cd at Best Buy, good luck.

Why be a prick and laugh at the manager? He doesn't have any control over the prices.

Do you have personal problems SO bad that you have to go and harass someone that has nothing to do with the situation? Why not write a letter to the corporate office and include a copy of your receipt?

It makes me wonder what you'd do if someone came into your place of business and started harassing you over decisions your superiors made?

The only time I ever remember buying a DVD at the mall was in 2000 (Army of Darkness 2 disc LE) at Sam Goody, but it was only because I had a $50 GC from MyPoints.

Our Warehouse Records just went under and closed a few weeks ago because of their high prices and nobody buying there. Any time I go into Borders I wonder how it's still open unless the books and music keep it going because the movies are so high priced.

Because he was my brother in law, and if I hadn't done it he wouldn't have the job that pays him 5x more now, Mr. Assumption.

Malls are going the way of the dinosaur. 90% of the product that is available there is available elswhere cheaper. The mall owners charge such high rents that the stores find it impossible to compete on prices. Only the "anchor" stores such as Macy's, Old Navy and the Gap who are capable of sustaining a stand alone store front will survive. The in-mall retailers are falling one by one. FYE, KB Toys, and I am sure there are others.

We were at the mall yesterday and I counted 7 jewelery dealers. 7 in the same building. How can these people possibly compete?

The difference with Borders is that they offer discount coupons all the time ranging anywhere from 10-20% off the Sale price. I have made some pretty good deals that way and their selection is hard to beat. Besides, the atmosphere is pleasant and you can browse books, cds or movies and have a cup of coffee.

Granted Borders is not a main outlet for me to purchase DVDs but they get my business before I spend a dime at FYE or Suncoast where their prices are most of the time list.

I have done before at FYE. Reason being I dont believe anyone ever goes to the one here in Roch. I was able to pick up alot of movies that where out of print such as Dawn of the dead and The Serpent And The Rainbow (even though now its out again). I would much rather go to BB or online anytime I buy a dvd.

my Borders sells a ton of dvds. true, they have me as the #1 dvd buyer but I see dvds flyin' out of that place every time I go in. I dont mind paying a higher price on some dvds as long as get great service. I dont buy new releases there....but much of my back-catalog comes from there whenever I dont buy on-line...which is rare. Borders is the only place I know where I can order 10 or 20 titles off the Borders database and not have to pay a cent until they arrive. I love c.o.d. type service. then you get a month to pick the stuff up. for me, not anyone else, thats a big plus. my order-man emails me once a week when my titles arrive. also, the titles they can obtain are a wide and sometimes rare variety. I've ordered and recieved some titles that I would never find on Best Buy shelves. I order on-line for the most part, but being the owner of a local company, I like to keep some biz here in the community as well. they may be a chain...but it's locals that work there.

Not only are they over-priced, but I can't stand the way Suncoast and Fye set out their DVDs. I don't want to have to flip through each and every DVD to see what they have in stock; Best Buy and Borders have the correct format, shelve DVDs like books with the spines facing outward.

I've bought DVDs from Suncoast only once: when they had the MST3K episodes for $10 each. And from Fye only once: when I found the ultra-rare Anima Mundi DVD among its documentaries a few months ago.

I meant in store, they have it online, but in store they never even heard of them, even thought it consits of members of Slipknot and Static X, two bands that are very easy to find at BB.

I try not to buy cds online, I don't like the idea for some reason, not quite sure why.

What I find ironic in regards to CD Prices is despite massive lawsuits against people who download music over the internet, the record industry was found guilty of price fixing not too long back.

I remember going to an FYE last summer looking for the Spider-Man score. $20. That is INSANE to pay for a CD.

I've bought a few wrestling dvds from Suncoast, but never paid more than $15 for one.

And why Best Buy dumped them last summer.

A note if anyone cares: Musicland Group is the parent of Mediaplay, Sam Goody, Suncoast, and Musicland (before they changed them all to Sam Goody). BB dumped them since they weren't profitable, and now they are going under. If these go away, odds are all 3 disappear. But they'll probably hang on somehow.

I've bought a few things at these or similar. Mostly stuff I couldn't find at BB or other inexpensive places, like the Definitive Star Wars Collection on LD. Or special orders for stuff that is never in stock anywhere. That was years back, usually the internet covers this stuff, now.

The other reason for these prices is trapped parents. Screaming kids can often be silenced by impulse purchases where price doesn't matter anymore. Weak parents who haven't trained their kids properly will give in. Or grandparents.

In my four years fo collecting, I have not bought a single DVD at a mall.

In the last year is has been predomenantly online, but prior to the I used to buy at BB B&M and DVDPlanet B&M, but that is it.

Keep in mind, these B&M stores are paying for transportation, staff to sell and stock, etc. This is why Apple can charge $9.99 for a digital version of an album Wherehouse has to charge you $16 for that is 'packaged'.

The only reason I would ever buy a DVD at the mall (FYE) is because I am too impatient to wait for it or a sequel comes out in a few days. The recent mall DVD purchases for me were the Two Towers and Matrix Reloaded. Why in the world would I pay around $20 for a DVD when I can get it for around $7.50 from Columbia House.

The only time I ever shopped at SamGoody B&M was when they had the Armitage LE lunchbox set for $24.99, and I got it for $16 after a coupon and giftcard.

Wait I know this one. Is it because you are too impatient to wait for it or a sequel comes out in a few days?
