Got mine from DDD yesterday. I switched the white case with a black one that was being used to house "Snow White." Both were more aesthetically pleasing after that.

Since this thread needs someone else's two cents worth (/sarcasm), here ya go:
While Paramount's decision to not put an insert - either a chapter card or booklet - in the set will not make me take it back, the other discs have had various inserts and I felt that perhaps my insert-less set was a bad copy. Reading the other comments here have convinced me not to waste my time, so thanks.
And the picture on disc two? Sloppy, pure and simple. If Paramount doesn't think that fans will call them on it, they should give the franchise to some other company.
My main concern about the disc is that the sound dips low ever so often. Has anyone else noticed this? The first time is towards the end of the main credits.

Yet you felt the need to read it and reply to it?Oh, by the way, did anyone else's copy have security stickers on more than one side? Mine only had one on the top (white case) but the ones I see in stores now (black case) have security stickers on all sides (AFAICT).

well, after reading this thread, i finally got around to opening up my ST6 DVD, and lo and behold, notice the upside down artwork on disc 2. didn't think that i would bother me all that much, but it actually did...it was annoying, in fact. tried turning the disc upside down to keep the artwork correct, but then the lettering began screaming at me. this goof is pretty funny; i'm surprised nobody at paramount QC picked up on it.
man, i really hope they fix this in the near future....any chance of that??

Finally got my Star Trek VI dvd from Amazon today and was glad to see that it was a double-sized black case... Until I opened it. I have never received a DVD case like this Scanavo http://www.scanavo.com/pro_2_1_xtra.html case before. It's damn inconvenient because every time I want to get disc two out I have to take out Disc one first. Has anyone else received this case? There are plenty of responses in this thread about getting the black case but nobody mentioned anything about this style case. I personally don't like it at all but here is a picture of the case to illustrate my point...

I received mine today from Amazon and was relieved to see that it was black until I read Space_Monkey's post. I haven't opened it yet and would consider returning it to Amazon if it turns out to be a Scanavo (which I have never seen before either). From the outside mine looks just like the cases for the special editions of Star Trek 1-5. It appears to be double-hinged so that it opens from each end. These cases look like AlphaPak cases and have a space with clips for the (apparently nonexistent with ST VI) insert in the front inside and position the first disc on a swinging section in the middle of the case and the second disc at the back of the case.
Space_Monkey, can you describe the appearance of the Scanavo case from what it looks like when closed?
I've seen black cases and Wal-Mart and Best Buy but only white ones at Borders.

Well, it should be a double-sized keepcase. If it's only a single size, you've got the crappy case.

The double case page didn't contain a large enough picture so I showed the other double disc model since the inside looked the same.
EDITED - The case I have is essentially a double wide keepcase that opens like the single disc cases do. It is not double hinged to open the front and rear separately but simply has more of the clamshell look which can be seen in the previously posted picture.

I just received this from DDD and I didn't like the inside case. Its such a hassle to have to take one dvd out in order to get to the bottom one. What were they thinking when they designed this?

Those cases are worse than Snappers. I mean, having to remove the first disc to get to the second would get old VERY fast around here.

Did you have yours professionally printed, like Paramount would/should have done?
I've found that making inserts:
a) look like crap
b) are never on the right kind of paper
c) require a lot of effort and some expense for something that I've already paid for but did not receive

Yep - this is what I ventured into this thread to ask. Got mine from dvdempire and it was this kind of case (black). Very disappointed with it.

God, those cases suck so so bad.
The nice thing is that it's the same size as a regular double-keepcase, so you can trade them out easily. But you shouldn't *have* to. I guess they're probably cheaper or something.
I can't fathom Paramount's decisions anymore. They obviously do not want people buying their DVDs.

I noticed that my nearest Borders store got in some newer copies of Star Trek VI (SCE) last week. In addition to the white double-hinged AlphaPak type cases that they've carried since release, they had some single-hinged black cases, which are likely the Scanavo cases that Space_Monkey has described. I don't understand why Paramount has gone with all the variations this time around, but if you're picking it up at a B&M location, at least you can check out the type of case before purchasing one.
