Well in this case it is more than the insert. The box is messed up as well.

Look... some people care about inserts. Some don't. But when EVERY PREVIOUS star trek DVD has come with one... and you get one without an insert. It's a valid question to ask.

Well, questions about the insert and the box, which we sometimes refer to as a case, would still be discussed in the DVD Talk Covers, Cases & Inserts Area, wouldn't they? It looks like this

EDIT: Removed an unitentionally harsh comment..

Let's just clarify something here...
ST6 is not missing an insert.
For whatever reason, Paramount have decided not to produce one.
If it was supposed to have one and it is missing from your copy, that's different.
So can we please drop this "missing insert" argument?
As others have rightly pointed out, this has been argued many times, and we will never agree. Those who want inserts want them, those who don't - dont.
As for the white case - so what?
You have a beautiful home, tastefully decorated, clean, spotless, well furnished, a DVD collection etc. But...all of this is totally ruined by the fact you have a white DVD case poking out amongst all of your other cases.
If it bothers you that much, replace it.
Personally, I 'm not into the packaging. I am just grateful we are finally getting the SE's, with decent extra's and a good copy of the movie.

Even more news about his edition, posted on DVD REVIEW:
Although the Star Trek releases have been generally praised, a standout complaint has been the lack of theatrical versions on the sets, either via seamless branching or a separate transfer. The upcoming Star Trek VI release will be neither the original theatrical cut, which has yet to make its way to home video, or the slightly longer cut available for years, but a new slightly altered cut. No extra scenes will be added, but several minor camera edits have been tweaked along with a visual montage inserted into the Valeris interrogation scene.

I guess I'm keeping my VHS copy. Is there any word on whether or not it actually does come with an insert and whether or not the White case is the actual case?

This insert issue is annoying.
Look, just because something does not matter to YOU, does not mean that it doesn't matter to someone else. And just because the way you do things does not lend itself how other people do things, that doesn't make other people's methods or desires less valid.
Here's the reason I want inserts:
I store my DVDs in leather binders, not amrays. My binder inserts have room for two discs and AN INSERT. No insert, no artwork for the page. If the disc has no artwork (flipper), and there's no insert, there's no resresentation of the movie. DVD coverart is a nice solution, but not as nice as an insert.
So. If you store/display your DVDs in amrays, ask yourself this: would you want to buy a DVD that had no amray cover art or the name of the film on the spine?

I just got my Star Trek 6 SE from DDD today (early for them). Anyway, the actual case that holds the DVD's is white and the outer insert matches 2-5 in the series. There was no inner insert what so ever.
All I got to say is, I hope that Paramount now releases the next 4 SE dvd's in white cases also. That would make five each that are in either black or white cases. Given the first film has a gold outer insert, it wouldnt bother me just as long as they stick with some kind of trend and not go back and forth.

Did Nick Meyer have a hand in the changed scene (however brief it was)? If not, that's just wrong.
Shame on Paramount for not making the series DVD cases uniform and for not including an insert.

The case is not a huge deal (I'm just going to change it out to make them uniform). But the lack of an insert is weird. All of the others have 'em.

Looked at a copy tonight...here's a checklist of things of interest:
- White box
- No insert
- Back of box claims that two scenes were changed (both by Nick Meyer's supervision)...but I only noticed the Valeris scene being different. Now during the mind meld, images of the people she mentions pop up on screen for a few seconds. Doesn't add much to the movie, IMHO.
- Synopsis on back of box refers to Kirk as "Admiral Kirk"...of course, every Trekkie knows he was a Captain in this film.
- Disc two has a picture of the Enterprise-B in spacedock from the opening of Generations! And on top of that, the picture is UPSIDE DOWN!
- Searched, but could find no Easter Eggs on the DVD.
- All the bonus features are non-anamorphic.
- Disagree that the movie looks "better" in 1.85:1 than it did in 2.35:1...seems to loose some if its scope. Also, because of the new aspect ratio, the subtitles of various Klingon scenes are much higher up than you would expect them to be...they are about as close to the MIDDLE of the screen as they are the bottom of it!
- Still, the features on Disc 2, the commentary track and the price make this one worth getting.

That's odd. Maybe it's payback for Generations reusing the bird of prey special effect shot from Trek VI...
