best: Godfather boxset i guess (got it for $12 from freedvds.com)

worst: chain reaction (was a 2pack with point break which I do like. Bought it before both movies dropped to $10. Wish i had waited for PB alone. I will have to sell this sooner or later, I'll never watch it again.)

Best -M Night Shyamalan: Vista Series Dvd (3 film set)

Worst-It would have been Freddy Vs. Jason, but I rented it first...thank God!

So I'll have to go with the WORST being Batman & Robin.... I am quite happy to write that it is no longer in my collection.

Best: Alien Quadrilogy

Worst: Doom Generation: I ordered this because I'd heard of Rose McGowan various... scenes in the movie. It is, bar none, the most ****ed up movie I've ever seen. Before I saw the movie, I would have thought nothing could ruin a movie with Rose McGowan naked. Then I actually watched it... I apologize to anyone that liked the movie, but that's two hours of my life and $20 I'll never get back.

Everyone hated Gosford Park (for the most part)? Really?

I love Gosford Park.

Just out of curiosity, did you like the English Patient too?

Just wondering.

Exactly. Someone on this thread was lamenting their purchase of Requiem for a Dream and I love that movie.

Best - Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 1. I chose this one as the best because before buying it, I'd never seen either Buffy or Angel, but now I love both shows.

Worst - Forces of Nature. One of the first DVDs I bought, and the first DVD I got rid of. I like Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock, but this film was just a mess, IMHO.

This is interesting. I almost bought FON as a Blind Buy, as I too like both actors (I hate to admit that I even liked Affleck in Armageddon-although Dogma and Chasing Amy are his better roles).

Now I'm kind of glad I didn't!

Best Purchase: Fight Club, or maybe Pulp Fiction (CE)
Worst Purchase: None yet (though I've gotten some lukewarm gifts!)

Best Find: Robocop (Criterion) for $9.00, or the Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box for $23.00!

And, just cause I get the honor of reviewing stuff:
Best Screener: Ikiru (Criterion), or the Directors Label Series
Worst Screener: Gigli or Turn of Faith

Best purchase: Coupling: The Complete First Season -- I got it cheap ($10) and though short on special features,
it has gotten the most replays of any disc in my collection.

Worst purchase: Beany and Cecil: Special Edition -- no complaints with the disc, just the timing of my purchase
(I bought it for $20 a week before the MSRP was dropped from $29.95 to $9.95)

Thankfully, I rented this one first. Quite possibly, one of my least favorite films of all time.

Very dissapointing.

Worst: Pi/Requiem for a Dream 2-pack which was a BestBuy supercheap special - hated both movies and gave them away.

The Best: "Band of Brothers" No contest. A close second would be my "LOTR EE's", and the "X-Men Collection"(A nice set, and the movies were better than I thought they would be.)

The Worst: Not only the worst, but the worst night of buying DVD's ever!! We got "About Schmidt, and "Adaptation" on the same night, thinking we were getting comedies, since they were in the comedy section. What a mistake that was.

"About Schmidt" - Although a good story, it is to depressing to even be funny. On top of that, it contains THE most frightening scene in movie history, Kathy Bates nude. AHHHHHHHHHH!!! The movie bored me to tears, and was just to sad. I felt ripped off, and missled. A comedy my a**.

"Adaptation" - Why people rave about this pile of dung, is beyond me. There are a few laughs, but in general it is just a boring movie with a little twist at the end. This movie nowhere near deserves all the praise it gets. It's crap, pure crap made for people with a very dry sense of humor. One of the most overrated waists of time ever made. I think I will stay away from any movie mad by Spike Jonze from now on, if this is what he considers a comedy.

Runners Up for the worst:

"A Mighty Wind" - This movie could have been so much better. I wish I had never gotten it. I was very let down. There are some good characters in this film, that didn't get exsploited enough. Instead they mainly focused on the two most boring characters, and it made the movie very, very lame. I think fans of folk music will like it, but I'm not a huge fan of folk music, so that may be why I don't like it as much as most people do.

"The Deer Hunter" - I used to love this movie when I was a teenager. Somehow between then, and now, this movie got really bad. They waist soooo much time on that dumb ass wedding scene, and there is hardly any battle scenes at all. I forgot why I used to like it so much, but I know one thing, I sure do think it sucks now. This movie is proof that winning all those awards don't mean didly. Makes me wonder what the people who vote on those Academy thingies are smokin'. I should have known better.

Couldn't pick the best, but my blind buy of Magnolia was definitely the worst.

BEST: Probably "The Usual Suspects" on a blind buy. I can't live without that movie now.

WORST: Has to go to a gift I got: "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron". Not only was this movie absolutely terrible, but it was also foolscreen.
