Glad I still have my Criterion special edition laserdisc of The Game, which has some really nice extras on it. Since those dimwits at Universal own The Game now, I'm sure they'll either never do it, or they'll screw it up.
I can't complain about a 3-disc Panic Room set, but I do think it's odd that his weakest film, IMHO, gets the most elaborate treatment. Oh yeah, and it would be nice if Fincher actually pulled the trigger on whatever his next movie is going to be. This man is attached to more projects than Michael Caine, Gene Hackman and Ron Jeremy combined!

Those dimwits have given some films to Criterion in the past unlike most other studios.
Don't get me wrong, I hope that Criterion manages to license The Game from Universal, I really do. In fact, I wish Criterion could license EVERY title from Universal!

I don't think Panic Room is "loved", per se. I know it has it's fans and I liked it more than any of my friends. But it's my least favorite of his Fincher's films. I view it mostly as a technical exercise. I think the same can be said of this upcoming SE. It's really all about Fincher's process and not reflective of some kind of Panic Room phenomenon that's sweeping the nation.
Personally, I think it's a shame that Fincher chose to invest his time in a 3-disc Panic Room but not take two hours out of his schedule to record a much-needed Alien 3 commentary.

How difficult a decision is that?

Liked the movie, don't see myself upgrading to a 3 disc set though. Very happy for those that were waiting. I upgraded to the BHD 3 discer in hopes of better sound plus the documentaries were historical in nature so that's a little more interest to me.

Simple. One movie is his and he loves and the other isn't and he hates it.
His name appears on both films. He had the option, as all DGA directors do, to remove his name from Alien 3 if he hated it so. What better way to screw Fox over than to taint the film with the stench of "Alan Smithee?" He also had every right (again, as all DGA directors do) to prevent Fox from proceeding with the Special Edition cut of Alien 3 for the Quadrilogy set, but he didn't. He also didn't demand to have his name removed from the Special Edition cut either.
I know we live in the Age of Revisionism, but nothing will change the fact that Fincher directed the film and kept his name on it, regardless of how many problems he had in making it or how unhappy he is with the final work.
Fincher could have used an Alien 3 commentary to set the record straight and get a lot off his chest, since he obviously still has strong feelings about the experience.
I'm not saying I don't understand his decision. I do. Given the terrible experience he had, I understand it completely. But as I said, I just think it's a shame that he made that decision because I think he's a very intelligent, articulate filmmaker and I think all of his fans would have loved to have heard the straight dope from the man himself. Fincher might have wanted to punish Fox, but after all is said and done, he mostly just punished the fans.

I still haven't picked up the Superbit release, but I'm not sure if it's a movie I really care to have three discs on. I think I'd rather have DTS sound and superior video transfer on the Superbit.
It's under ten dollars @ DDD with free shipping anyway. That's cheap!

Glad I waited. Never even saw the movie yet, since I've been waiting for the SE, but since I loved the SEs of Se7en and Fight Club (even though I'm not so wild about either film), I'm sure this will do fine as well.
And yes, an SE of The Game would be grand.
Ridley Scott and David Fincher are truly the most DVD-friendly directors. (If we ever get an SE of The Frighteners, I'll add Peter Jackson to that list as well).
