I can't beleave that these two made it to the top 10!!! Proves that people are dumb enough to buy anything.

I have six of the top ten movies. Numbers 1-4, 6(which proves I am dumb enough to buy anything as well), and 10.

I liked XXX and 8 Mile. I'm not *too* surprised that XXX made it. However, I think that if the DVD wasn't pushed so hard the first few weeks, it would have been knocked into the 'teens. I mean, you could pick it up for $14.99 for the first few weeks. And at that price, I'm sure that it got a lot of impulse buys. Heck, that's when I got it.

I wasn't going to say anything, but seriously, why the lukewarm treatment of 8 Mile in this thread ? A couple people are implying that it's a terrible film, and some people have said that they've quickly gotten rid of it. Was there not enough cartoon fish or magical rings in it ? Do you not appreciate the direction of Curtis Hanson ? Is it blind hatred of Eminem ? Do you shy away from reality ? It's easily the best movie on that list. I also find it kind of sad that it's the lone drama surrounded by sci-fi crap and kiddie cartoons ( With the exception of MBFGW, and the enjoyable Signs ). If I owned Matrix : Rehashed, I wouldn't be turning my nose up at 8 Mile. There, the Supreme one has spoken.

I was merely asking for an official website where one would find the "true" top 10 for 2003. No sales figure are mentioned by Iron_Giant.
I used dvdfile.com's sales figures from the beginning of the year and listed the 10 ten from Feb 1st on. As a new #1 (or #2, #3, #4...) came on the list, it pushed the old list down. I spent about 15 to 20 minutes figuring it out.

The list I posted did not include Seabiscuit, so that may change the list on Dec 31st. But, when it means best drama of the year, does that mean it is going replace "8 Mile" on the list, that would not surprise me. Or does the #1 drama of the year mean the #1 drama about 3 men and a horse, marketing departments twist things all the time to make it sound great.

If you go back and check that stats from the beginning of the year at dvdfile.com you should get the same figures. XXX, Signs and 8 mile were all in the Top 5 for over half the year. That is why stayed in the Top Ten at the end of the year.

http://www.dvdfile.com/news/sales_statistics/index.html

I just thought everyone on the Forum would be interested in what the Top 10 Selling DVDs were for this year.

Have a great New Year.

Own every one except XXX because I can tell that really isn't my kind of movie.

BTW- 8 Mile was a great movie and I can say that because I have ACTUALLY SEEN IT! ;-)

I saw everything in the theater except 8 Mile because a friend didn't want to see it. I will rent it.

I own:

1. Finding Nemo
3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Columbia House screw up)
7. Lion King

I have to admit that Finding Nemo, The Pirates of the Caribbean, Matrix Reloaded, Harry Potter, The Lion King and The Two Towers are a definate sure-bets for the list, but what about Indiana Jones Trilogy, X2 and Bruce Almighty. Some of those films (XXX & Signs) came out on DVD last year.

But XXX & Signs came out the last Tuesday of the year. The list is for how many DVD it sold for the 2003 year, not when it was released.

At different points this year, the 1st Matrix movies made it into the top 20 selling list because the 2nd and 3rd movies were being released and people went out and bought the 1st DVD. Matrix was release 6 years ago, but it still made the 2003 DVD best selling list (Top 30, or whatever).

I own three of these film:

01: Pirates Of The Caribbean
02 Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets
03: My Big Fat Greek Wedding

By the way, why write out Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl: Collector's Edition and abbreviate Terminator 3? Some people will have no idea what TT stands for.

Number twenty on that list "Chicago" has a YTD ranking of tenth. So unless 8 Mile sold a bunch of copies from that list to the last posted list, I doubt that it's still in the top ten.

I have no interest in telling people what DVDs I own. I do, however, enjoy going down my GURPS list.

Japan

Bought LK gift set when it first came out, and received FN and POTC-TCOTBP:CE for Christmas. So, 3 out of 10.

I have the top 3

Interesting Matrix is so low down. I never cared for the 2nd film but thought it would be higher in the list.

I, rather proudly, only own one of those (MBFGW).

But that is just me.

Well, from the original list I only had TTT, and from LB's list I only had TTT and Indy. The other movies just didn't appeal to me.

-FFF (who is not sure why he's bothering to post this, but will still hit "submit" like a sheep and watch his post count climb!)
