Can you post the article since NYT requires registration in order to view their site?

I had a feeling 'something' was cut. The two sequences that jump out at me & the audience were.......

Spoiler:

The nerd with the glasses getting killed near the end. He is hung on an overheard chandelier by Leatherface, who then revs up his chainsaw & appears to slice off the guys feet(but it abruptly crops off bottom of screen),then swing the saw upwards starting from the crotch sawing the guy either in half or just mutilating his lower regions. Of course this all happens in all of 2 seconds, then the chase continues...& well it is impossible to tell what happened,it was far to brief to be 'left to the imagination'(since it would be a longer more realistic scene that implies the gore, rather than shows, yet slicing a guy up that quickly in various places in 2 seconds & not seeing what happens just feels amature or obvious MPAA editing) & just seemed severely edited down.

The other was the girl who was killed just outside there van before this chase begins & all that jazz. You see up close shot of the woman screamin, shots of the saw swinging...& then nothing,it is over...but appears he may be slicing her up big time...but again the actual kill & sawing happens in all of 2 seconds or less..& you can not tell what happened, nor see the aftermath. Either they badly were attempting to recreate the death of Franklin in the original(which despite not seeing the violence is a few seconds long scene & very terrifying!) or again bad editing because of the MPAA.

Those were the only questionable editing sequences I saw in theaters & had myself & the audience confused as to what the hell happened.

Other gruesome bits like the hook scenes may have suffered some cuts as well....but not nearly as bad as the above two sequences.

So does anyone know for sure, what is up with those two scenes? Were they more explicit in the Canadian release?

Are there any specs on the single disc release, such as will it still have DTS-ES?

I love the original one and haven't seen the remake. I'd love to pick up the 2-disc set too once the price is right. Fans of the original usually bash this release but I still want to see it.

and rightfully so. The remake is a modern dumbed down version of a horror movie classic.

Up next are seven deleted scenes including an alternate opening and closing. This alternate opening and closing sequence was going to be used over the police footage, which was eventually used in the film. This ending also sets up a sequel so it’s rather good they went with what was in the final film. Also included is an alternate death scene, which was apparently cut so that the film wouldn’t get an NC-17 rating. The scene features a lot more gore but I agree with the director that it took away from the action and the suspense he was trying to build. We also get an alternate, gorier version of the “secret” that happens in the van at the start of the film

I love the original as well, but the remake moves along at a much faster pace. And to me, pacing is a key ingredient in a horror film.

Wooohooo, though still disappointed it is not in the film(via seemless branching) as the dvdfile review says is a really nasty!

I just had a feeling something was off in the nerds death scene & it appears I was right.

The 2-Disc version looks awesome. I'll wait till it's available as a CH enrollment.
