Create your own SE DVD . . .

The Three Amigos is playing on HBO right now and it made me start thinking what an awesome SE it could make. Just think:

- Widescreen
- Behind-the-scenes documentary
- Interviews during filming
- Deleted scenes
- Outtakes (you could probably have hours of these given the cast)

and, the creme de la creme . . .

- a full length commentary done by Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short . . . this has the potential for being the funniest commentary track EVER!!!

That's my first custom made DVD wish . . . any others?

Oh Im sure Ill get blasted for this one, but I really would like to see a Special Edition of "Top Gun".

- Commentary by Tony Scott & Jerry Bruckheimer
- Commentary by Cruise, Edwards, McGillis, Kilmer, Ironside, Skerritt... (you get the idea).
- VH1's Behind the Movie: Top Gun
- deleted scenes
- a feature on the impact of the film on enlistments
- where are they now (not so much for Cruise or Edwards, but McGillis)
- anamorphic WS
- and for the audio heads DTS (I would be happy with DD, but give the masses what they want)

I would certainly "double dip" for that.

I would have liked a 25th Anniversary Edition of "The Bad News Bears" with a "Where Are They Now" featurette and commentary by Michael Ritchie and Walter Matthau. Alas, that's no longer possible. Also gone are Ben Piazza and Vic Morrow.

But a 30-year anniversary SE would be nice, with that same "where are they now" featurette, plus a commentary track by some of the kids: Tatum O'Neal, Jackie Earl Haley, Chris Barnes, Alfred Lutter, Brandon Cruz, etc, and whatever outtakes or deleted scenes might be available. A second commentary track by writer Bill Lancaster (who also penned John Carpenter's "The Thing") would also be nice.

A nifty easter egg might be concert footage of Dr. Know, the band fronted by Brandon Cruz ("The Courtship of Eddie's Father," and Joey Turner -- Vic Morrow's son -- in BNB), or of the Dead Kennedy's, who Cruz is fronting these days.

The current release is absolutely bare-bones.

It will never happen, but how about a special edition of encino man!

-Anamorphic transfer
-Extended edition with tv and deleted scenes
-Commentary by Brenden Fraser, Sean Astin and Pauly Shore
-Behind the scenes

But I'd be happy with just an extended and anamorphic disc

I'm with Turd on the Apocalypse Now edition. I'm still hunting for the story behind Harvey Keitel being fired from the set. Anyone? My personal choice by the way is an Ultimate Edition for Braveheart, complete with film cell, cast & crew commentaries, dts, deleted scenes, UK version, James Horner commentary, feature-length making-of, etc, etc, etc!!

Matinee: (I know some of this stuff is on the LD so it makes me think this DVD could happen easily)

* Commentary with Joe Dante, and a cast commentary with John Goodman and the man Dick Miller, and whoever else they could get.
* Anamorphic widescreen transfer and spiffed out audio with all the bells and whistles
* More "Mant" footage, all that was shot
* Outtakes, deleted scenes
* An in-depth behind the scenes featurette, and one about William Castle and all the gimmicks he employed
* Interviews with the filmmakers and cast
* An retrospective on how the "atomic war" affected suburbia and schools
* Something that would be fun to see now, like a tour through a real bomb shelter and an old matinee theater

Quite honestly, I am floored that we haven't seen these out already. They were HUGE successes, why hasn't that been capitalized on yet?

Another movie I really want that I loved back in the early 90's was FIRE IN THE SKY. I want to see a SE w/ commentary by actors/director, commentary by the real Travis and friends. UFO Abduction documentaries, interviews with real people, etc. A great little under rated flick.
