Personally, I don't care about inserts and their damn movie-ruining chapter titles
Boy, I hope your GF has

I'm with you. I'm anal about packaging. I would return it (and probably tell them it didnt work in my player...I never said I was proud about my "problem" )
I only buy movies that I really enjoy and for me the experience of DVDs is made more enjoyable by pristine packaging. I once had to return an Ultimate Toy Box cause it had a large gash down the spine of the clear sleeve. It sat on my shelf for a couple of weeks and eventually I couldnt stand to look at it anymore so I exchanged it.
I think it has to do with the whole "this is a collection, so it must be perfect" mentality I have.
Whatever...there is no right or wrong, only what's best for you...

I have dented tins, packaging that is crap, etc...I watch movies. I collect movies. I enjoy....
movies
Not the packaging.
Many of my "well-kept" laserdiscs ended up having spine issues and such, but I never bothered with plastic sleeves for all of them. (I have a Cameron Crowe autographed copy of Fast Times...laser in a plastic sleeve)

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
I like to collect DVDs on top of just loving *movies*.
I mean, if you love movies then VHS is good enough for you. Some are even available in Widescreen.
I like the presentation that DVD offers. I like my packaging to be in good condition.
I have returned snappers that had their middle hub broken (since the case will then no longer hold the disc) and I've had a few inserts, usually Criterions, that have been bent a bit, or inserted in such a way that they got a little crumpled, but the only disc I ever returned for an exchange was one that was mis-cut so that the top/bottom of the insert was in the middle of the paper - it had the bottom half on the top of the sheet and the top half after that on the bottom, and only on every other page of the 16 page booklet.
In any case, you're picky, but not *too* picky if it's important to you. I mean, why settle for damaged/mis-produced packaging? A trip to the store that you may make anyway for something else is worth your peace of mind, I'd think.

I always look at the dvd package when im purchasing one to see that its not banged up in anyway and i also learned to rattle it so i dont get one that has a loose dvd in it(i think thats called a rattler) so i dont get a scratched disc. Also i get nervous lending out dvd's cuz i hate getting them back with fingerprints all over them or coffee rings on the case, other than that im not too fussy

Nah, your not picky, I enjoy the inserts. When I bought "The Recruit" DVD it was my first movie that did not come with an insert. I brought it back to Circuit City and had their Customer Service Manager open several DVDs to prove that there was no insert missing.
After about 5 dvds being opened, he remembered that "Old School" didn't have an insert either and opened 3 more of them to prove it to me.
If the studios provided inserts or put in a piece of paper saying "No Insert Included" it would make things easier for the customers. I always feel cheated when a dvd doesn't contain an insert.
